In the Books panel it would be nice to have a column to enter comments.

Different Size Columns
Provide the option of having unequal column sizes, to provide a 2-1 ratio. This would give easier sidebar style layouts.

Column view for index panel
Column view for index panel would be very convenient when working with large indexes. With this feature a large index could be edited and viewed on an external monitor.

Support headlines in separate column (sideheads)
It's a pretty common layout to have headline paragraphs in a separate column and their corresponding body paragraphs to the right. (See attached images for examples.) This layout is currently only supported by creating tables, but this isn't semantically correct for the content.
It would be great if InDesign supported assigning paragraph styles to specific columns, e.g. H1 spans columns 1-3, H2 is column 1, body copy spans columns 2-3.

Changing the height of a column individually
I would be nice to be able to change the width/ height of a column individually, this would help making things easier instead of f*ing around with multiple text windows

Make "split column" widths flexible
I use split-and-span columns frequently in my work. Often, with lists of names, I'll have that one name in a column that is just too long and wants to wrap. If I could adjust the column width after using the split-columns, that would be very helpful. As it is, I either have to decrease the type size or increase the right side margin, which messes with the body text width. I don't want to create a separate text frame as this is too common an occurrence in my work, and I'd have to be dragging and anchoring…

Paragraph Rule Establish Length
Under Paragraph Rules, we have the option to increase the indent from the left or the right, it would be nice to just dictate overall length of size

Discontiguous selection of rows and columns
Being able to select rows and columns that are not adjacent to one another would useful to me. For example, one would like to select columns 1 to 3 and 5 to 7, leaving column 4 unselected.
Often I need to adjust the width of some columns or the height of some rows, leaving others in the middle of the table unadjusted. One instance is when I use a blank column or row to separate groups of data; another is when several discontiguous columns have much longer labels than other columns.

Adjustable row- and column lines
I'm setting this student book and the designer made nice tables.
The tables have no touching intersection where row line meets column line.
It's approved by the client who loves these tables.
The problem is that the designer has drawn the lines by hand. As a typesetter you curse at it and find a solution for your 200+ tables, wich I did with a mix of paragraph borders and underlining/paragraphlines but I'm gonna cry pure salt if I need to make changes to this. With some clients you never know ;) I will attach a screenshot from a simple example.…

Row Height and Column Width definitions in Cell Styles
It would be really helpful if you could control the width and height of cells through Cell Styles, a bit like you can with Object Styles.

Unequal columns within a single text frame
It would be great if we could define different column widths within a single text frame, making the automatization of sidebars in longer documents easier. Currently, we need to set up differently sized text boxes on the page and link them.

Break the table straddle rules (borders)
Often we're receiving the feedback from our internal clients that table rule to be splitted whenever the tables are having multiple heads (attached the screen shot). Currently we unable to achieve this, need to fix in InDesign to fix this feedback.

Uneven columns
Being able to adjust where the column gutters is placed. Or adjust the individual widths of each colum within a text box.

The fill and stroke selectors on toolbar when in the single column option are too small.
The fill and stroke selectors on toolbar when in the single column option are too small. By comparison in Illustrator in the same single column view they are much bigger and easier to select.

Command to break frame into individual frames for each column
Invoking the command would create individual text frames for each of the columns so they can be manipulated individually.

Paragraph Borders and Shading - Keep in Frame
I use a P Style for a Tip paragraph in my Quick Reference Cards (QRC). The Tip is typically one or two sentences, and has a light shading (light grey) with a top and bottom blue border. I use a similar style for Warnings, except I change the borders to red. Occasionally, the Tip/Warning falls at the top or bottom of a column, and the Border, and sometimes the Shading, lands outside the text frame.
Can we have a "Keep in Frame" for Borders and Shading, similar to the one for P Rules? David Blatner had a great…

Allow different coloured/weight strokes for sides of text box
That way you could make the left and right sides of a box to have zero weight, which essentially gives you rules above and below a text box, but in a box that can be changed in shape and size

Add cell style setting fort column width and row height
We periodically update our older catalogs with newer styles and much of the content is to provide dimensions for parts. Most of the time they have not had a style applied to them. This would be the same as the option already provided when a cell is selected. Being able to select a group of cells and applying a style with column and row height would be helpful.
Its actually the only item that isn't included from the cell options every other option is already available.

Different line lengths with paragraph shading
Paragraph shading is great but even if you choose to set it to text instead of column, the length of each line is the same for all lines of the paragraph (the longest one). It would be great to have the ability to set it according to the length of each line. For now, you have to use paragraph rules wit a hard return at the end of each line.
