Border also as character style instead of only paragraph style
Title describes itself. I would like to have the ability to "span" one or more characters instead of a whole paragraph and assign a border to them. Just like I'm able to do with css

I posted in Japanese for InDesign users in Japan. A lot of people in Japan wanted this function from the first version of InDesign. This feature will save users’ lots of time. We really need this feature.

I would appreciate it if there is a technical possibility implement paragraph styles such as borders and shading in characterstyles as well. Perhaps you can also extend the shading styles by patterns (also individual) and hatching or even gradients.
