MathML Support
We need to have InDesign to support MathML, this is much awaited feature, but not supporting in InDesign yet.
Currently we're using 3rd party plugins such as MathType, MathTools, PowerMath, etc. but not meeting our expectation, also high license cost than InDesign.
@ALL: Please support to include this feature in InDesign in the very near release.

Stop making the CC Libraries the default!!!!!!!
I am sick and tired of the Library panel popping open because there are embedded defaults that make EVERY new thing I make think it needs to be added to the cc library.
I DON"T WANT TO USE THEM AS DEFAULT!!!!
If I want to use them I will decide.,
STOP MAKING IT THE DEFAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
87 votesThank you for raising this issue.
Can you please describe the issue in detail?
Is the issue that every time a user creates a new paragraph/character style or swatch, CC Library panel opens up?
If yes, here is a simple solution:
In a no document state, open the Paragraph Styles Panel. Click on “New Paragraph Style” option and uncheck “Add to CC Libraries” checkbox in the dialog. Repeat this process for Character Style and Swatch Panels as well.Let us know if you are facing any other issue.
Thanks

Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style
I'd like the option to not add space between paragraphs of the same style, even if those paragraphs have space above or below. Microsoft Word has a checkbox that does this, and it's great for list styles. You can create a list style with space above and below and then check that box so that space only appears before and after the list, not between list items.
In order to achieve the same effect in InDesign, you need three or more styles (one with space above but not below for the first item, one without space above or below for…

Locate where a specific colour is used in your document
It would be really useful to be able to find exactly where a colour is used in a document. When you get a document from a third party and there are extra colours in it that you are trying to eliminate it is sometimes very difficult to track them down.
You can convert the colour to a spot colour then turn on separations and do a visual check but, apart from being time consuming and relying on it being large enough to be easily spotted, it won't help if the colour has been defined as part of a style.

Make text variables/live captions breakable like normal text
We work a lot with pictures that get there captions from xmp meta data stored in the pictures.
There is a great feature in InDesign called textvariables/live captions ;) for this… BUT these variables don‘t wrap like normal text :(
Instead we have to convert the live captions to static text to get the proper text warp and in doing so losing our live link to the XMP meta data.
So please enhance this feature to a real feature and allow variables to wrap like normal text. Thanks!

Make InDesign be able to import/Export comments from/to PDF
I want to be able to get the comments from PDF into InDesign so that I can easily incorporate/respond on the comments from people.
71 votesThanks all for your feedback.
We have created the specs to show the proposed workflow.
Please review the specs at: https://adobe.ly/2H0Iol6
Let us know what you think about the same.
The proposed feature will work well if you import the comments in the unmodified InDesign document (i.e. document is in same state from which PDF was exported). In case you have modified the Id document before importing the comments, some comments will map incorrectly or might not map at all. I hope this is okay?
Thanks

Actions Panel
An Actions Panel that runs the same type of Recording/Playing features as Photoshop and Illustrator already have would be fantastic.
67 votesHello All,
Kindly provide more information about this ask. How do you plan to use the Action Panel in InDesign? Do you want it to work exactly like that in Photoshop? What are the most important actions/operations that you want to record?
Thanks

Dynamic baseline related unit of measurement
Please consider the addition of a dynamic unit of measurement that relates to the document’s baseline. Such a unit will make it possible to express various parameters throughout the design as a multiplication or division of the document’s baseline.
We would for example be able to express a header’s leading as twice the number of baselines, or a paragraph’s space after in any number of baselines.
The unit’s relation to the document‘s baseline means that it’s dynamic: whenever you change the baseline, all values expressed in this unit will change accordingly. There will be no more need to adjust these…
64 votesHi All,
This indeed a great suggestion. I wanted to understand a little more about this request.
1. The way this request is described its majorly about figuring out how to change the various text attributes in a single step rather than having to change multiple styles to make that happen. It would helpful if you can mention which all attributes you all would want to be dependent on the baseline (space before/after, size, leading any other).
2. Which kind of documents (magazines, brochures, books etc.) do you see this to be more important for you.
3. Wouldn’t a similar method (not sure if we could base it on baseline though!!) for changing the layout also help, if you could define the sizes of objects in relation to the page size. Do you think extending this feature to the layout also makes sense.
4. If you can share some files… -
Paragraph Border Controls when Split across Columns or Frames
There needs to be a control that "If paragraph breaks between columns or frames" restricts the paragraph border to: "baseline" , "cap-height" and perhaps a value offset for this. At the very least there needs to be the "clip to frame" option for paragraph border like there is for paragraph shading. However, the controls for baseline and cap-height would be ideal.

Make the »instructions.txt« file choosable when packaging
Just add a button so that it will be possible to unclick the writing of the (often useless) instructions.txt file when packaging an InDesign file.

We have started to implement this feature.

Find/Change Panel -> Dockable ?
I'm struggling with screen estate here (laptop, no other screen) and was wondering about the Find/Change window.
It's floating on top of everything, like a modal window, but you still can interact with everything underneath.
So it is basically acting like a panel.
What I am missing here is an icon + the option to dock it and hide and show when needed.
It is quite a large panel so it very often hides things (results, context) under it.
What about 3 things :
1. "make it a (real) panel", don't change design quick and dirty, but already solves the…53 votes -
Convert PDF to INDD
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC can edit PDF's read images and text, and it is possible to edit, so why is this function not available in Adobe Indesign? Indesign has more control and the only feature that will needed to be added is detecting strokes/filled objects converting filled lines or shapes to one to the other.

Allow multiple character styles to be applied to characters
Allow multiple character styles to be applied to one character.
There should be an »appearance« panel as in Illustrator, which reflects the hierarchy of multiple applied character styles to one character/a text. This would ease the work with XML and reduce the number of character styles needed. Nowadays you have to trick with GREP styles etc. to apply multiple character styles to one character.
With such a feature, I could define »italic« and »bold« and has no need to define »bold italic«. This will even end up in better HTML export: instead of <span class="BoldItalic">blabl</span> there could be the much…50 votes -

Tables!!!! Cell an rows breaking across page and more!
Tables!!!! First can we have table cells/rows that BREAK across pages. Second can we the ability to adjust the size of rows or columns without having to split and join an split and join..... Word is a much inferior product and this has been available since 1994.... Tables are probably what we use most of with little or no updating since Indesign 1.0....

Allow different coloured/weight strokes for sides of text box
That way you could make the left and right sides of a box to have zero weight, which essentially gives you rules above and below a text box, but in a box that can be changed in shape and size

Please add a history panel to InDesign, like Photoshop's
This is a very helpful feature, saving time and enabling the user to track what they've done. Thank you.
