Thank you for reporting the issue. We need some information around the issue which may help us in narrowing down the root cause:

    1. Does it happen with the latest InDesign version 14.0.1 ?
    2. Is it document specific or happens with all the documents?
    3. Does it happen with Swatches panel only or all other panels while expanding ?
    4. Have you added any extra swatches or it happens with the default swatches ?
    5. Please specify your Platform, OS version and InDesign version.

A short video depicting the issue will be very helpful.

    Hi,
It's unfortunate that you have face such problem. I would need your response for the below mentioned queries to get to the bottom of the problem.

    1. When you come across the issue, have you observed the other panel such as Layers, Pages behave funny too?
    2. When you create a fresh document cmd+opt+N does the problem goes away?
    3. Please share a document with me abkaushi@adobe,com with which you face the problem consistently.

Please go to https://www.adobeprerelease.com to join InDesign prerelease program.
What you can do is that once you have joined InDesign's prerelease program, you will find Builds and Plugins section on the home page itself. There you can select any latest build.

To identify the latest build, focus on the build number. Adjacent to Builds and Plugin section you will find Release notes and other downloads, there you can choose to download release notes which would guide you through the process of using the beta builds.

    Hello All,

Thank you for your patience all this while; we really appreciate your support!

Our investigation suggests that one of common reasons for the problem is that certain software (mostly antivirus and other security applications) and browser extensions happen to enable “Secure Keyboard Entry” on Mac machines due to which some keys such as Shift key in this case do not perform the desired action in InDesign.

For now I request you to follow the below provided KB doc for the quick workaround of the problem.
    https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/features-do-not-work-keyboard-keys-mac.html

In the comments section many of the users have confirmed that disabling Webroot SecureAnywhere (a security app) has resolved the issue for them. Please note that, the problem may not be related to a particular software; there could be a different application or antivirus which might be causing the problem by enabling Secure Keyboard Entry on Mac.

    Hello All,

Some of the recent comments have mentioned that they don't have such antivirus install which would enable 'Secure Keyboard Entry'. Please note that the problem may not be specifically due to antivirus, instead it can also be triggered by browser extension as well. For trial purpose, you may try to disable such extensions in your browser, close the browser and try working with InDesign again.

Some of us have mentioned that on "closing everything" the problem got resolved. It suggests that some of the applications may trigger Secure Keyboard Entry in the background and when those apps gets closed the problem gets resolved.

    Hi,

I have tried this at my end but unfortunately, I am not able to reproduce it. Hence, I may need more information from you. Would it be possible for you to share a small screen-video with me showing what is happening?

Also, tell me, is it a consistent issue or an intermittent one?

You can share the video using any file sharing platform eg, Dropbox, Creative Cloud files etc and share the link with me at abkaushi@adobe.com

    Hi Jerry,

Sure thing that I will try to reproduce the issue. When you say Surface Pr0, is it Surface Pro 4 you are talking about?
I would also like to know from you if there is a particular step that eventually distorts the Pages panel's UI?

    Hi Iona,

Yes it does help but I am not able to reproduce the issue at my end.
Do you think it is specific to a given file which you are placing in InDesign?
Which format are you trying to place in InDesign for both image and text?

Can you share a sample files with me using which I can try to reproduce the issue at my end?
If you are enable to attach any file here, you can share them with me using dropbox and paste the link in the comments or simply send them to abkaushi@adobe.com

Is it the case that the secondary monitor has a different DPI setting than the primary monitor.
What is the resolution of both of your monitors?

Also, if you make this your primary monitor, does the issue start to happen with the another monitor?

Please try to uncheck small panel row option, if checked.
For that, go to Context menu (on top right corner of the panel) and uncheck small panel rows.
    See if that works.

If small panel row option is already unchecked, please try the below mentioned workaround.
Try to reduce the size of the panel so that scroll bar is invoked. Then check if the issue persists.
