1. Assigned character style is ignored when you generate index

   If you manually assign certain Character Style to an index entry (for instance Bold) and the same index expression appears on the particular page more than once, Bold is often ignored when generating the index. It is properly generated only when the expression is the first one in the list.
   If you assign style (Bold) to second or third appearance of the expression on a page and generate index, the character style is ignored.

   This feature is important. Certain index entries may be highlighted because the show page number of illustration, table, headline etc. So it is important to keep the highlighting. In case there is a collision (two different character styles), InDesign should (optionally) display the same page number in italic and bold:

   Netherlands 12, 18, 18, 20

   Because italic can mean illustration and bold definition.

2. Dictionaries, specifically German

   The german dictionary in ID is weird. Many common german words it would mark as unknown, but the suggestions show a lot of rarely used ones. Well, when adding words to the dictionary, it can be confusing for the grammar checker to distinguish between verbs, adjectives and nouns if there is no definition for the word type. So, at least for German, but perhaps generally, give the user the option to define if the added word is a noun, adjective or verb.

   Example for confusion: "brücken". This is a verb ("brücken" -> to bridge), but also the plural of "Brücke" (bridge), but with lowercase. The grammar checker would suggest to capitalize the word when it's meant to be a verb. I would then define it once as verb in lowercase and once as noun with capital letter in the dictionary.

      When placing an artwork (from Illustrator via AI file) into InDesign, artwork appears to be distorted and different from the actual artwork. All settings are in place, same as before, InDesign is the latest version. Yet regardless what I do, the artwork is either

4. Ellipses not found by Find/Replace

   Version of Adobe InDesign
   14.0.2 x64

   Steps to reproduce the issues
   1. Placed a Word document. Reformatted etc - lots of work done.
   2. Tried to Find/Replace all ellipses to ensure they have a Thin Space before and after. InDesign Find/Replace finds no ellipses (but I am looking at them, having already replaced three periods with ellipses throughout the document).
   3. Tested in a new document - problem does not occur there. But it does if I paste the text from the previous document in.
   4. Tried exporting to IDML and re-opening to remove any corruption. This made no difference.
   5. Tried Find/replace with [None] as Character Style - miraculously ID now finds the ellipses.

   Expected result
   ID finds ellipses when searching for them!

   Actual result
   ID can't find them unless Character Style [None] is also searched for (in Format).

5. Assign new shortcut for hiding panels while inside a text box don't work (Mac 12.7.4 ID2023)

   I have a need to hide/show panels except the toolbox which is here:

   Product area : Views, Navigation > Show/Hide all panels except toolbox --- Default: Shift+Tab

   Of course this shortcut will not work when my cursor is inside a text box so I added a shortcut when the "Text" context is selected so it will work in this way too: Text: Ctrl+Tab

   While doing so I made sure [unassigned] is written.

   I now have 2 shortcuts for this actions but the only one that works is the default one and I don't understand why.

   I tried to remove the first option and keep only the one I assigned but it still won't work.

6. Accessible alt text for hyperlinks needs to be supported by scripting

   With InDesign scripting, it's possible to search for "searchTerms" from one column of a tab-delimited file, then set corresponding hyperlinks from another column. This means I can set hundreds of hyperlinks in just a few minutes. However, it remains impossible to set the hyperlink's alt text with a script — that function isn't scriptable. So either I ignore this important accessibility requirement (not an option), or I still have to manually edit each hyperlink, one at a time, wasting many hours and introducing the possibility of errors on each one.

   For example, a document contains hundreds of product numbers or reference numbers, and each one needs to link to a URL. The numbers themselves aren't sufficient to describe what the links lead to; they need alt text. I have a spreadsheet that lists these numbers, their corresponding URLs and their alt text descriptions. I can set the hyperlinks using a script and the spreadsheet, but I can't set the alt text.

7. Error 39 - An error occurred while uploading your document. Please try again.

   Hey all,

   Really seeking some help or guidance here, we've been experiencing issues with all of our users attempting to upload/publish a document within InDesign (This is occurring with all InDesign files and on all machines I've tested so far).

   I have performed a fresh installation into a virtual machine running Windows 10 (10.0.18363.1854) and version 17.0 of InDesign where the issue is occurring also.

   I have followed https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/upload-error-publishing-indesign-document.html#sa_src=web-messag... however disabling network proxy is not an option as we're an enterprise environment.

   I can see 200's for reaching the endpoints mentioned in various Adobe support documentation however I have been able to identify that InDesign will ignore the PAC file and attempt to go directly to some Amazon endpoints which is causing the error.

   I contacted Adobe Support via Chat and was advised my request was forwarded to an expert however I have received no communications since then or a reference number to persue the matter.

   Is there any additional settings within InDesign where I can specify a proxy?

8. relink with file extension bug

   Relink File Extension is not working. This bug seems persistent so I can only assume not too many people are reporting it, but it's slowing down my productivity. When I try to use Relink File Extensions and choose the option to link images that have the .psd extension rather than a .jpeg I get the error message "Failed to find 1 links in new folder. These links have not been relinked, and will remain selected in the Links panel." Each time I've attempted to do this over the last couple of months, I double-check that the only difference in the file name is the extension. And I confirm both images are in the same directory. It just doesn't work. Please, please fix! This is a big feature for me in my production work flow. Not having it is slowing me down.

   It looks like you may be inputting ".psd" when it asks you for the filename extension.

   Try inputting just "psd" - that is, without the period in front.

   See what happens - it should work.

9. Generic check mark reappears in PDF check box after exporting to Acrobat Pro

   InDesign 14.0.2 and Acrobat Continuous 2019.10.20099

   This issue is about the behavior and appearance of interactive check boxes in documents that have been exported to Interactive PDFs.

   There is a difference in the way that check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear versus those created in Acrobat Pro. The Acrobat Pro Forms preferences are involved in this difference.

   When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

   When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign. When you tab to or select another check box, or when you save the selection in the PDF, the appearance of the check box reverts to a default generic check mark.

   When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is not selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.

   When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign and remains as such.

   This degrades the purpose of using the highlighted fields, which is to call attention to fields that need to be filled.

   When the check boxes are created in Acrobat, it makes no difference in appearance or behavior if the “Show border hover color for fields” is selected or not. They always appear as the checkbox style you have chosen to use. They do not revert to a generic check mark.

   This is the way that custom check boxes created in InDesign should behave. Thus, they would allow the use of a highlighted field without the appearance of the “selected” custom graphic changing to an unwanted generic graphic.

10. Software changes

    I use InDesign daily for my publication and when you keep changing things, it throws me off and wastes my time.
    I used to be able to print to save pages to the same folder, but now when I print to save a page, it takes me to whatever folder I most recently placed an image from. VERY frustrating. Also, I now have to scroll to get to my most recently used fonts rather than the drop down font list being automatically positioned at the top with most recently used fonts.
    I wish you would just STOP changing things! Every time there's an update, it takes me a several days to adjust to changes that I didn't need or want, which slows me down and reduces my productivity.
    If you MUST do updates, make them optional, or allow us to download them quarterly or twice a year so we don't have to constantly adapt to changes!

11. Switching between Cross Reference "Link To" types causes Crash

    1. New Hyperlink Destination: saved a Text Anchor (paragraph includes a graphic so I don't want to use the Cross Reference > Link To Paragraph option in this instance.)
    2. Cross-References palette hamburger
    3. Insert Cross-Reference...
    4. Change Link To from Paragraph to Text Anchor and it crashes. (I want to use Cross Reference instead of Hyperlink so it will include dynamic page number.)

    This is super frustrating and is hindering the project's progress. Please fix/stabilize soon.

12. 3 Bugs one Update > Edge smoothing doesnt work correctly > Effects previews and use doesent work correctly and shredderesd text >

    After the last update, the following things no longer work properly:
    1. CC Libraries
    (Crashes and shows either a reduced or enlarged section of the library and is no longer usable. Only a program restart helps ... short term! see screenshot 1. the bug was already in Illustrator!)

    1. edge smoothing! (Not only since the update): ... Does not work properly for quite some time! 2.1 Completely covered areas, lines and graphics have a slight contour due to the edge smoothing and become minimally visible (although these would actually be invisible and not visible in print) or form minimally soft edges, or corners where there are none! (see screenshot 2) 2.2 Frames with effects and in which images are loaded whose outer edges are 100 percent transparent, form fine gray outer lines on the outer edges where there are none!
    2. effect & effect preview: no longer works properly with texts and shreds them after scaling or makes them invisible! A problem which I never had before and what worked wonderfully before the update. (S. Scrrenshot 3)

    In addition, as an addition bugs in Íllustrator with 3D extrusions and invited images on it! Bugs with Adobe RAW: Zoom Scollrad works no longer or only stuttery!

    Dear Adobe team, what is going on? The whole thing costs a lot of time, a lot of money and nerves ... infinite nerves!!!!!!!!! It's starting to remind me of QuarkXpress!

    1. Kantenglättung! (Nicht erst seit dem Update): …
       Funktioniert seit geraumer Zeit nicht mehr ordnungsgemäß!
       2.1. Vollständig abgedeckte Flächen, Linien und Grafiken haben durch die Kantenglättung auf einmal ein leichte Kontur und werden minimal sichtbar (Obwohl diese eigentlich unsichtbar und im Druck nicht sichtbar wären) oder bilden minimal weiche Kanten, oder Ecken wo keine sind! (S. Screenshot 2)
       2.2 Rahmen mit die mit Effekten versehen sind und in denen Bilder eingeladen werden deren Ausskanten zu 100 Prozent transparent sind, bilden an den Aussenkanten feine graue aussenlinien, wo keine sind!

    2. Effekt & effektvoschau:
       funktioniert nicht mehr richtig bei Texten und zerschreddert diese nach Skallierung oder macht diese unsichtbar! Ein Problem welches ich bislang nie hatte und was vor dem Update wunderbar funktionierte. (S. Scrrenshot 3)

13. Text selection selects whole document AND cursor jumps to top of document after saving

    InCopy 14.0. MacOs Mojave 10.14.4
    I work in a icml-document which was assigned to me from InDesign. It contains references to other documents and a lot of comments (for the designer).
    After I have made the third or later comment, it becomes impossible to select text. InCopy selects the text from the top of the document upto the point where I click the mouse. When I try Option+Shift+Arrow, the cursor jumps to the top of the document. I can save the document, after which the issue is away until I have made a few extra comments, but which also puts the cursor again at the top of the document. This is unworkable, because I continually have to search the position I was editing.
    I have tried to switch from Adobe CC to iCloud Drive, this makes no difference.
    I have tried to copy all the content to a fresh document, this also makes no difference.
    I unfortunately cannot attach the document that I am working on, because this page does nog accept icml-files of a zipfile.

14. InDesign crashes when deleting pages from multiple files

    This doesn't happen on every single file, but it happens probably once a week or so. I will need to delete anywhere from a couple pages to a couple hundred pages in an InDesign file, and when I try to delete those pages, InDesign will freeze and crash.

    The option in Preferences to add pages to the end of the Story Editor is not checked on, so that isn't causing it.

    The issue will persist even if I save the file as an idml and open in older CC versions. Thank heavens I still have my old CS6, because the only solution I have ever found for this issue is to open the idml in CS6, delete the pages, resave, and then open the file in CC 2023 and continue working.

    If that solution isn't viable because the document uses features that weren't available in CS6, then I end up having to recreate the file entirely by copy+pasting the main story over to a new document and then recreating every other element in the original document.

    This costs me anywhere from an hour to several hours of billable work time every week, and I'm sick of it. I should not have to use 10-year-old software to do something basic like delete pages from a document.

15. Font baseline grid

    The baseline grid start value for Open Sans is different if the font is used from Adobe than if it's used from Google.
    This results in changes in layout which is very annoying. Also, when telling indesign to fit the box to text, the box is unnecessary larger at the top.
    Before the 17.0 InDesign update that wasn't the case.

    Someone else complained about this in November - https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/text-boxes-need-to-be-enlarged-after-update/m-p/... - the issue there is marked as solved, but it wasn't solved actually.

    The issue started with 17.0, actually i was really hoping it would have been addresses in this recent 17.1, update, but unfortunately it wasn't fixed.

    Someone voiced this earlier as well, it's not only about one font, it's about different google fonts, which I was using. We have a lot of documents which we share inbetween us and from the beginning we used the google font and we never had a problem. only after a recent update it started and it's quite a hassle to change all fonts in all documents now... also, some people experience it the other way on PC's - the adobe font version triggers the baseline shift, so that is not an option either.

16. Bug with paragraph borders across multiple textboxes.

    1. Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
       17.0.1 x64

    2. Steps to reproduce the issues
       Link some textboxes, fill boxes with text, and apply a paragraph border to all (or a large amount) of the text.

    3. Expected result
       If "Display Border if Paragraph Splits Across Frames/Columns" is unchecked, there should be no paragraph border from one column to the next regardless of whether or not a paragraph concludes at the bottom of the textbox.

    4. Actual result
       If a paragraph begins on one textbox and concludes on the next textbox, everything works as it should. However, if a paragraph finishes at the end of a textbox, it will display a line border at the bottom regardless of whether or not the next paragraph in the next textbox has the same border settings.

    5. Test file, screenshot, video or GIF capturing the issue (optional)
       Left, this textbox has a border, even though the following paragraph has the same settings and should therefore merge. Right, the textbox displays correctly, because the paragraph continues from one box to the next.

    There is also a bug within this bug, which I mentioned here https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/don-t-display-border-if-consecutive-borders-splits-accross-frames-columns/m-p/13326155#M501200 but let's fix the bug first, and fix the bug in the bug later.

17. [ID-3806494] Text Wrap Woes: v20.2 Update Fails to Resolve Text Wrapped Object Error Spacing Issue in Adobe InDesign

    This is a follow-up on the original bug report [ID-4257733], which addresses the issue of the "Text Wrapped Object" spacing error. The problem remains unresolved in Adobe InDesign version 2025 v20.2. Please find attached a PNG image illustrating the persisting issue

    Version of Adobe InDesign: 2025 v20.2, Mac OS 15.3.1

    Steps to Reproduce the Issue:

    1. Insert an image or free-flowing table into the text.
    2. Anchor the image or table in-line or custom to maintain spatial proximity with other images on the same page and ensure it remains adjacent to specific text .

    Expected Result: The ability to freely move or reposition the table/image anywhere on the page within the text, without overlaying or obscuring the text. This is particularly important for maintaining the relevancy and visual flow of the content.

    Actual Result: The "text wrap" spacing option fails to work for the text above the table/image, and the spacing is inconsistent—it does not work for the text above the table/image but functions correctly for the text below.

    This is a follow-up on the original bug report [ID-4257733], which addresses the issue of the "Text Wrapped Object" spacing error. The problem remains unresolved in Adobe InDesign version 2025 v20.2. Please find attached a PNG image illustrating the persisting issue

18. Remove Forced Line Breaks messes up Page Navigation markers

    When exporting as Reflowable EPUB with Page Navigation turned on, page markers need to be inserted immediately before the first word on the page. Often, this will be inside a paragraph.

    However, in InDesign 21.2, is the "Remove Forced Line Breaks" option is turned on, the markers are only being placed as <div> tags and never as <span> tags. This means that the page break markers are only placed between block elements and never inside them, so they don't accurately reflect where the page breaks occur in the print layout.

    Current export example:

    <p>The next paragraph.</p>

    Desired export example:

    To replicate:
    1. Created a new file and fill with enough text for two pages.
    2. Ensure there is a paragraph that breaks from one page to the next.
    3. Export as EPUB (Reflowable) with both Page Navigation and Remove Forced Line Breaks turned on.

    The page marker will be inserted as a <div> between paragraphs. Export with Remove Forced Line Breaks turned off, and the marker will be a <span> in the correct place.

19. Use of tab key is inserting unwanted numerals into line of copy instead of tab

    When working in InDesign v 14.0.3 x64 on my PC, I've encountered a new problem when trying to align text in a bulleted list using the "tab" key.

    After keying in the text in my list, I create alignment by first inserting tabs using the Type > Tabs command, and then using the "Tab" key on my keyboard to align second and third lines of text. Lately, when I move my cursor down to the second line of text and attempt to use the tab key to align the text with the tab I set in the line above, InDesign inserts the numeral "1" on the line (see attached screenshot, where I've marked the numeral with a red circle).

    No matter what I try, I cannot get it to stop inserting the numeral 1 in the line. I've even tried re-setting the tab, to no avail. I've saved the file, closed all applications, re-started my computer and attempted to update InDesign via Creative Cloud, but nothing solves the problem.

    The only option I have to align items in my bulleted list is to insert a soft break (Shift + Enter) and use the space bar to move the line of copy to the right incrementally. Unfortunately, this does not offer perfect alignment.

    Can you please help?

20. InDesign doesn't export 16 bit grayscale or 48 bit color images

    Tested on version: 20.2 x64

    Dear Adobe Support Team,

    When importing high bit-depth images—such as 16-bit grayscale or 48-bit/64-bit color (TIFF/PSD formats)—into Adobe InDesign, we’ve observed that even when disabling down-sampling and compression, the exported PDF converts these images to 8-bit grayscale or 8 bits per component for color (i.e., 24-bit RGB or 32-bit CMYK), rather than preserving the original bit depth.

    While we understand that limitations may exist within the current Acrobat SDK, it is important to highlight that:

    The Adobe PDF Library SDK (PDFL SDK) explicitly supports the creation and reading of 16-bit image objects in multiple color spaces. (https://opensource.adobe.com/dc-acrobat-sdk-docs/pdflsdk/apireference/index.html)

    The Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) now offers native support for high-bit-depth (16 bpc) images.

    Manual replacement of images inside a PDF with 16-bit versions still results in correctly preserved 16 bpc display, confirming that the PDF format itself is not a limitation.

    Given these capabilities within Adobe’s own ecosystem, we kindly request that InDesign be updated to optionally preserve original image bit depth when exporting to PDF, particularly in professional print workflows where tonal fidelity and HDR imaging are critical.

    Please refer to the attached image samples for confirmation and visual reference.

    We appreciate your support and look forward to your guidance on whether this feature can be implemented or if a workaround exists via scripting or SDK.
