  1. Corrupt/pixelated cursor Issue in InDesign on MacOS High Sierra

    In InDesign is a Problem with the Cursor on iOS Hight Sierra Beta Version 10.13 (17A315i). I Attached a short Video file. It is better as the describe when you what I means. Thank you.

    • Distorted Text and Graphics in high sierra

      When opening a previously created file, I noticed small visual artifacts in the rendering of vector graphics in the file. As I zoomed in to inspect it, the artifacts began jumping all over the place, and as I zoomed in further, text on the page began presenting the same behavior.

      Using InDesign 2017.1, Build 12.1.0.56 on a 2016 Macbook Pro (2.9 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB RAM), running macOS High Sierra 10.13.

        This is a macOS10.13 issue, specific for some Intel GPU cards. Apple has fixed(partially) this issue inside macOS10.13.4 released build.

        Following are the workaround for resolving this issue.
        1) Update your mac machine to latest macOS10.13.4. Here, Apple has fixed this issue to some extent. You will face very less number of rendering issues.
        2) Disable GPU preview and set display performance as typical.

        Once you have updated to macOS10.13.4 .You might still face some rendering issues. Since, Apple has not fixed this issue completely.
        Please switch off GPU rendering for these cases and report a separate post for tracking.

      • Problem with changing the cursor to text

        Hello. After running the latest version of InDesign CC 2019 v. 14.0, I have a problem with changing the cursor to text. It takes about 50 seconds. This happens each time you launch InDesign.

          With updating to 13.1 March 2018 Update: When you type to a text frame you have to do it twice before the character appears in the frame. I have this problem on two Windows 10 machines...

              Fix of the issue is now available in InDesign’s latest November’17 update.
              Please upgrade to the latest version InDesign CC 13.0.1 for the fix.

              If you are unable to see the update, go to Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

            • Proportional Scaling Using Shift Button Not Working

              In the 2017.1 release of InDesign, the ability to hold Shift and scale objects proportionally seems to have disappeared. I know for me this is a major functionality problem that is increasing the time I have to spend on current projects. I've checked support forums and others are encountering this problem, but I haven't yet seen a solution.

                Hello All,

                Thank you for your patience all this while; we really appreciate your support!

                Our investigation suggests that one of common reasons for the problem is that certain software (mostly antivirus and other security applications) and browser extensions happen to enable “Secure Keyboard Entry” on Mac machines due to which some keys such as Shift key in this case do not perform the desired action in InDesign.

                For now I request you to follow the below provided KB doc for the quick workaround of the problem.

                In the comments section many of the users have confirmed that disabling Webroot SecureAnywhere (a security app) has resolved the issue for them. Please note that, the problem may not be related to a particular software; there could be a different application or antivirus which might be causing the problem by enabling Secure Keyboard Entry on Mac.

              • Mouse-click in menus becomes disabled

                InDesign 12.1.0.56; macOS Sierra 10.12.5; Magic Mouse

                The issue varies with any file. I have mostly seen this occur when in the Find/Change window, or when I try and select a font. My mouse will not be able to click (select) anything in the drop down menus. I am able to select with my keyboard by using the arrows and "return" key. To get the mouse to click (select) an option from a drop down menu, I must first restart InDesign and then open the same file.

                  We have tried to replicate the issue at our end but have not been able to, so far.
                  We need your help to investigate what could be causing this.
                  When you encounter this issue, quit InDesign and copy the Preferences and Cache to a shared location (like Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc.) and share the link with us.

                • InDesign CC2019 - blank control panel

                  Just installed InDesign CC2019. Bizarrely the control panel containing the adjustment controls with character and paragraph setting is there but empty. I tried turning off and on, and resetting the workspace but to no avail. Resetting preferences on start up has worked but feel this could happen again.

                  • I lost all Save, Save As, Undo functionality (everything is grayed out). To save my work, I have to export as an IDML .

                    Lost all Save, Save As, Undo functionality while working.
                    To save my work, the only thing to do is to export as an IDML file. Force quitting to recover the file doesn't work. This has been happening to me since InDesign 5.5. I am currently using InDesign CC 2018. There are no particular steps, it happens at random. I can have several files open and it only happens to one file, or sometimes it's more than one file. It happens whether I'm working off of my Desktop or on our server.

                      • InDesign CC 2018/High Sierra - Cannot package files

                        Since updating to High Sierra I am not able to package files. The error message is simply "Unable to package the document. InDesign cannot access '(file name'.indd).

                        I am using InDesign CC 13.0.1 on macOS High Sierra 10.13.1

                        Don't know if this is of any use or not, but also if I try using my bulk packaging script, the error I get is "undefined is not an object (line 186)

                          The issue has been fixed with Apple’s MacOS High Sierra 10.13.4 Beta (17E139).

                          You can try out the fix by updating your machine to the beta update from Apple.

                        • In InDesign CC 2019 slow Reaction Time and lag on clicking from one object to another.

                          Using InDesign CC 14.0 on Windows 10. I have an magazine layout with text and picture boxes, of course. When clicking from one box to another, there is a long delay, a temporary freeze. Eventually (20-30 seconds) it awakens and I can move on. But it's happening more frequently, even after a reboot.

                          Is this an issue of my computer talking to Adobe servers?

                              After the last Update of Indesign time by time suddenly Indesign report a damaged file if you try to open any InDesign-Document.

                              Everytime after restarting the Mac everything is good and I'm fortunally able to open all o these documents.

                              Sometimes restarting Indesign helps, but not always.

                              The last 3 days it happens much to often und it nervs.

                                We’ve been able to identify one scenario in which the cache folder is not accessible while InDesign is launched, resulting in the issue. The issue seems to be specific to MAC OS.

                                We have released an update for InDesign CC2019 (v 14.0.1) which contains some stability fixes. If you are not already on 14.0.1 (build 209), then we recommend you to update to latest version.

                                If you still encounter the issue again, try to access the location “/Users//Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/Version/14.0/en_US/InDesign Recovery/*” and create a file in the directory.

                                Workaround – Quit & relaunch the application, Cache folder gets created and the problem is resolved.

                                We require more information to identify the root cause of the issue. Please provide following information over email to santalwa@adobe.com
                                1. Version of MAC OS (110.12.×, 10.13.x, 10.14.x)
                                2. Is InDesign cache and Preferences mounted on Network drive?

                              • InDesign is very slow

                                The latest version is virtually unusable. If I select an image or text box on a layout I get a spinning wheel for 10 - 15 seconds. If I try to move something - spinning wheel 10-15 seconds. Try to save a document - spinning wheel 10-15 seconds. Previous versions did not behave this way on this same computer. No other applications behave this way.

                                My Mac is a late 2012 model, 32Gb RAM, 2 SSD drives; one for the OS / Applications and one for the customer files. GeForce video card (came with the computer with 1Gb RAM.

                                  There can be multiple reasons for slow downs. Watching you uploaded video gave us little hint for possible causes.
                                  However , can you please send us your document for more analysis. This will help us in isolating the actual root cause.

                                • Typekit (or Adobe Fonts) or Fonts menu collapses while browsing through the list of fonts.

                                  I am absolutely loving the new InDesign features. But, whilst testing the new Typekit/Adobe Fonts browsing window in InDesign I came across this bug / crash. Instead of allowing me to freely roam the vast selection of fantastic fonts, the window just decides to close and defaults to one of the already synced fonts.

                                  • Can't drag objects

                                    I am unable to drag objects/textbox/etc in InDesign. I can resize using corner handles but I'm unable to click and drag object to desired location I've uninstalled, reinstalled, shutdown, restarted, cleared all settings, etc and nothing seems to work. I have never encountered this issue in all my years of using InDesign. Please help!

                                      1. OS Version?
                                      2. Are you able to resize the object which you are not able to drag?
                                      3. Is your Application Frame On or Off?
                                      4. Does is issue happen with a specific kind of Object, let’s say Text, Rectangle, graphic frame.

                                      InDesign CC 2019 (14.0.0.130) for Mac
                                      Filetype is the same as CC 2018. Each version has been given a unique Filetype. The only exception is v6.0.0–6.0.3 (CS4), but it was fixed as a bug in 6.0.4. I also expect it to be fixed as a bug of 14.0.0 as well.

                                        This has been done to preclude any new entries for CFBundleTypeOSTypes. The previous release, CC2018 had CFBundleTypeOSType as IDdD but for the new release, we have not created the new OSType entry as IDdE rather kept the previos entry intact.

                                        Apple had deprecated any entries of the form of CFBundleType from 10.5 and now recommends using a UTType(Uniform Type Identifier) entry instead of creating CFBundleType entries. We might choose creating UTTypes in the future. However, for now we have stopped creating separate CFBundleTypes for the new releases.
                                        It would helpful to know from you as to how you use these entries in your workflows so that we can suggest you an alternative.

                                      • [Limited Undo] InDesign CC 2019 (v14.0) strg+z / cmd+z doesn't work properly

                                        With the new Version the option to go back some steps seems to be cut at some point. I have been working on a couple of files now and going steps back with strg+z works for 2-3 steps. Somehow random but definitely not the way it used to work.

                                        • stalls intermittently, seconds to minutes of spinning beach ball or Application not responding

                                          Stalls to a spinning beach ball intermittently during use. Add images in frames, move images or add text, what-ever, it suddenly just stalls and can take seconds to minutes before clearing. CS6, the CC2017 worked fine. Now CC2018 seems to have regressed in performance. I have to FORCE QUIT at times. MacOS Sierra 10.12.6
