  1. Please change one word in the German Indesign

The German Word "Abstände" is used two times in the paragraph style panel but with two completely different meanings.

First use "Einzüge und Abstände" is in English "Indents and Spacing".

Second use "Abstände" is in English "Justification".

Please change the second one to "Blocksatz" or "Blocksatzeinstellungen" so that the German users will not be confused anymore.

Or contact a German speaking InDesign pro user for a better translation.

Just a small change to make a lot of (German speaking) people happy!

  2. Copying originally English text in InDesign and it's pasting as Chinese characters

Really weird - been trying to copy and paste directly from an indesign file to external documents while sub-editing a page, and noticing it's pasting as a string of Chinese characters.

E.g. see attached screenshot is pasting as:

But only into certain programmes. Pastes in English in google search or directly into a google chat, but pasted into Whatsapp desktop or a fresh email or apple notes app (etc) it pastes as Chinese characters...

For reference, using InDesign 2023, font is Adobe Caslon Pro, language is set to UK English...

  3. hyphenation not working properly in English

first, why can't I use a snipping file here? Neither .jpg or .png will work - your site denies these file types.

My hyphenation is really out of whack. If you look at the first line of text, it's crazy that it's wrapping the 1, for WW1 to the next line. If I add the No Break from the Character panel, it moves "World War" down to the second line.

  4. F/R (text or grep) doesn't find all matches

Hebrew text -- copy first occurrence of a letter/nikkud combo (for example וְֿ)

Find only finds SOME of them (It DOESN"T find the occurrence that I copied)

  5. A problem about converting right-to-left text to the newest version

    Hello,
I have been using Indesign v18.5 and created a lot of documents for a book in Hebrew and Arabic.
My paragraph styles have the property "Character Direction: Default" which, of course, organized my text as RTL for Hebrew and Arabic, and LTR for English text.
After converting the documents to the newest version (v19.0), some (and only some) of the punctuation marks (such as ".", "!", "?") and even some of the spaces, were placed in a wrong manner: to the right side of the text, instead of being placed to the left of the text as they are…

  6. English:UK spelling currently not picking up US spellings 'ize', 'izing'

InDesign is not currently detecting US spellings that use 'ize' in text that is set as 'English: UK'. (example 'organize'). We have checked to make sure there are no local overrides, such as paragraph or character styles set to 'English: USA' (there aren't), and that the undetected spelling has not been added to the custom dictionary (they haven't been). Failure to pick up 'ize' spellings is a departure from previous behaviour and is quite problematic for our workflow. Other US English spellings (such as 'behavior') are being detected.

  9. Arabic Diacritics move to unwanted places if you use an Index Marker in the same line

    1. Adobe InDesign CC 14.0 (Middle Eastern version -- English يدعم العربية)

    2. a. Type this Arabic text: شَيْء غريب

    3. b. Create new Index entry for the second word: غريب

    4. The Diacritics should stay as they were.

    5. Diacritic of the second letter (يْ) goes somewhere else.

  10. Find Font bug when multiple fonts begin with same name

When a document contains multiple fonts with same family names (e.g. Arial and Arial Hebrew), the search font dialog box only makes available one of the fonts (e.g. if I want to search Arial, even if I select Arial in the available fonts in the search dialog box, the Search Font line will automatically show Arial hebrew so i can't just find Arial. I also have the same problems with multiple Helvetica Family fonts.

  11. 60 Noto (foreign) fonts showing up in middle of drop down font listing.

I have recently upgraded to Adobe CC 2020, and also upgraded to Mac OS Catalina. when I open my font drop down menu I expect to see all of the 'foreign' (non english) fonts at the bottom of the list. Instead, there is a font 'Noto' with 60 font families in the menu. I've checked in 'Font Book' on my mac, and that font is NOT listed as an 'english' font, so I assume it SHOULD go to the bottom of the menu. These fonts show up in the middle of font listing of other CC programs…

  12. Spell Check changing to Catalan (Spanish) half-way through

Spell check is changing from English to Catalan on a particular page of my document every time I check it. I have tried changing it back and will select English and then it will still say Catalan and try to change all of my words to Spanish.

  13. interactive pdf export hangs forever

ID 2023 won't finish the export to Interactive PDF task and hangs for minutes on the "finishing document" stage. It must then be force quit to continue. Cancelling the export doesn't work. Screenshot attached.

    ID 18.5.1.79, M1 Max MacStudio, MacOSX 14.2.1

I must use ID 2022 in order to export interactive PDF because ID 2024 is impossible to use with Hebrew files. see here: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/47461556-you-have-screwed-up-hebrew-in-indesign-19-0-1

  14. In some Hebrew fonts, part of the letter punctuation is missing or appears in the wrong place

    Adobe version 17.0.1.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Copy text with punctation, (like the poem from here: https://benyehuda.org/read/30477).
    2. Create in InDesign an RTL text area, and paste the text.
    3. Change font to Alef Regular.
Expected results: correct location of punctation marks inside letters and above.
Actual results: missing or wrong location.
    See screenshot attached.

  15. Wrong font preview for RTL languages

There is a problem with the new fonts preview in version 14.0 of InDesign.
The 'Selected Text' preview is shown backwards (LTR instead of RTL).
This happens in spite of the fact that the text box is marked as a 'Hebrew' one.
I'm using a Mac running OS X 10.13.6 High Sierra.

  16. Right-to-left paragraph orientation causes problems

Hello and thanks in advance to the respondents.
For several months now I have been suffering from a very annoying problem in InDesign and I have not been able to find a solution.
When I set the writing direction from right to left (using the edit menu - right to left), the arrow keys on the right and left keyboard stop responding as they should, and instead of each click the cursor moves one character to the right or left, clicking on them jumps the cursor to the beginning or end of the line.
The problem only exists when I…

  17. Khmer Script Punctuation Line Breaking Is Broken

Regression Bug (used to work in InDesign CS 5.5)

Adobe InDesign CC 15.03 currently will break lines between Khmer script and its punctuation even though no space is present (Khmer Unicode Punctuation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_script#Spacing_and_punctuation ) as pictured in the attachment.

Desired Result: Khmer punctuation should stay with the Khmer script preceding it (just like an English period, comma, question mark, etc. does). The whole word should line break with the punctuation (currently Khmer uses zero-width spaces [U+200B] to indicate a word-boundary).

  18. RTL options dissappeared in Indesign 18.3

Indesign 18.3 - Hebrew support edition.

Steps to reproduce the issues: Choose a text box, and try to set RTL. THERE IS NO RTL button! (Indesign 17.x had RTL and LTR buttons. But after upgrade to Indesign 18.3 - the RTL button dissappeared!)

Expected result: Should have RTL buttons just like Indesign 17.x

    Actual result: Missing RTL buttons.

Thank you for sharing the feedback with us.
Please note that the design axes names are provided within the font itself, therefore the translated string for these axes names cannot be displayed unless the font designer has incorporated it in the font.

However, Adobe Illustrator explicitly translates 5 predominantly used design axes names(Weight, Width, Slant, etc.), but this does not seems appropriate for fonts having more than 5 design axes(like Amstelva Alpha which has 16 axes).

Hence the attribute names are not translated.

    Thanks,
    InDesign Team

  20. WorldReady settings go missing in [Basic Paragraph] style

    Adobe InDesign (ME) 2021, 2020, CC 2019, ..., CS6
    macOS and Windows

InDesign's WorldReady settings (Paragraph Direction, Kashidas, etc.) are being stripped from a document's [No Paragraph Style] style when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in (like Em Software's InCatalog). This appears to happen with any 3rd-party plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's lower than the WorldReady plug-in's prefix. While the following steps use the Middle Eastern app (English Arabic), where there's a UI to see the style's empty/blank WorldReady entries, we've confirmed that this problem affects all app variants (including English
