Undo Not Working properly in InDesign 2020
InDesign CC 2020 Undo goes back to last saved version. It does not go back one step with Command-Z. Therefore, I lose all edits made since last save. It also crashes frequently
The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign – that is, InDesign 15.0.2.
Please update your InDesign application to get this fix.

Have the latest version of 2020 and this still happens.. Honestly, I have an old version (on a thumb drive; 8+ years old). Updated the program expecting some of these horrible issues and bugs to be fixed by now, but they have not. I'm not one to leave comments, but this is pretty poor. I have other programs that can load twice as fast as this thing and they're much larger programs than 2020. I am extremely disappointed as I forked out over $2,000 to update a program that literally has not fixed any issues over the past 8 years. If you're looking for a design software, look into something else.

This issue is still present in 17.0.1 (x64 Windows version). For me, the undos have stopped working since updating to Windows 11. Potentially some part of the OS update has borked the undo functionality for InDesign

Please return unlimited undos

I am on version 17.0, the latest and greatest and I cannot cmnd+z after three clicks, same for restoring! I just lost part of my art because I cannot go back further. Extremely frustrating!

I'm also experiencing this issue as of yesterday. It just started happening out of the blue!.
When I Command S the file doesn't save and when using command Z the document reverts back to the original opened file with all work done in between lost.
I have now upgraded to 15.1.3 and still no fix.
This is very frustrating and costing me valuable time!!!!

No - this issue is not fixed. I have just experienced this with v16.1
I got around it by making a new document and saving it (any/size/shape/format). Then export the problem document as IDML.
Whilst the problem doc was still open on screen I opened the IDML and checked everything was ok by comparing with the problem document.
I was then able to save the new IDML as standard 2020 Indesign file.

I am facing the same problems for months now ... after some time working with an Indesign document there is no more UNDO possibility and no more say or save as ... after working with previous Versions I hoped it will be fixed with InDesign 16.1 but still the same problem ... even more problems appear with no possibility to even start InDesign because no access to preferences. Even after 3 hours chat with an Adobe Specialist nothing could be done because it was impossible to install Indesign again after uninstalling ... the only way was to set up all new from a few days older Backup Version ... waste of time, plenty of extra work and still no solution available

Just happening for me today on 15.1.3. Tried ID 2021 previously and stopped using because of the text-wrap crashing problem. Should I go back to ID 2019?

I am using InDesign V 16.1 and the bug reported regarding only 3 undo steps has still NOT BEEN FIXED or it was removed when upgraded from 16.01 to 16.1
I have tried the SHIFT + CTRL + ALT when opening IDD and it still doesnt work.
This is becoming very annoying.
Please help -

It's Feb. 5 2021, and my InDesign 16 files saved fine yesterday, although there was no undo, now today there's no Save functions at all and no Undo. That's why I'm here!!! When I get those pop-ups to rate whatever Adobe app I'm using I suggest that they STOP UPDATING SO OFTEN!!! I just want to create without having these ridiculous continuous updates tripping me up. I updated most of my apps a few weeks ago, including indesign and and now there's the 16.1 available and I keep getting that stupid message and today I have 12 new updates available. THIS IS INSANE AND DOES NOT HELP CREATIVES! JUST STOP UPDATING FEATURES AND FIX THESE ISSUES. I'm 8 hours into laying out a photography book and Save disappeared quite a while ago and thanks to the gentlemen in this conversation, I Exported as an IDML, and it opened and then the Save functions worked. ADOBE STOP THIS UPDATE MADNESS!!! Once or twice a year would be fine.

I had this same issue just this week on Indesign 2020 in OS 10.15.7 and was losing lots of saved work. However I removed the shortcut (Command+Z) from Keyboard Shortcuts, and quit Indesign. Restarted Indesign and added the keyboard shortcut back in and it seems to have corrected the issue. Fingers crossed it stays this way.

No response since flagging this as "FIXED" when it clearly hasn't. How is this always an issue. Have gone back and noticed it's been a lingering issues since 2011. I guess when you're a small shop like Adobe it's tough to iron out all the kinks in short time.

I hope someone at Adobe is actually reading these comments, I second everything everyone is saying. The bug is not fixed and this is causing HUGE issues for my agency, we have now spent hours making the same simple changes to a file.

Fixed!!?? I'm on V 15.1.3 and it's STILL NOT FIXED. I'm totally sick of Adobe and Apple, each 'update' causes more issues. How about this...only update once a year and spend 6 months of that testing and working with Apple and Microsoft to iron all bugs BEFORE releasing it to professionals who are trying to use it to make a living. Using us to find your bugs is really not acceptable.

Hey all -- I've tried to 'undo' and 'save' in V.16.0 and neither function is working consistently. The bug may not be totally fixed... I restarted the program and it's fine, but it's not dependable.

OMG this is awful. It keeps reverting back to saved on any command Z! Come on Adobe!!!!! So sick of it. And why is CC not compatible with older OS now? I had a mid-2011 imac working awesome and then yesterday halfway through the day, I got a team member save a file in newer version and I'm forced to upgrade.

Having the same problem as well. I work for a huge company that pays for cloud. This is very unprofessional that I can't save or undo.
WORKAROUND: Export as an IDML and open it that way. Test it before you open your original file. This has happened to me with two different files now
