Arabic exported to EPUB (Fixed Layout) doesn't show properly
• InDesign 15.1.2 / Mac OS 10.15.6
• Create an InDesign document with Arabic content. Apply any Arabic font.
• When exporting to EPUB (Fixed Layout) we should see the Arabic text appear in the epub viewer in similar manner as it shows in InDesign document.
• The exported epub document is viewed in Apple's Books application, and Adobes Digital Editions 4.5 with similar problems in both epub viewers, where all Arabic text is either invisible or messed up and shifted from its location.
• Attached images from InDesign document, and epub file which was exported from InDesign.
• Links from InDesign forums on the same topic…

This issue has been fixed in the latest InDesign version - InDesign 2023.

Hi Rivan,
Thank you for the update. Very much improved!
However, there are errors in the punctuation and minor spacing errors.
I took a screen capture of the ePUB output and will document in a comparison test to the INDD file.
Is there a direct email in which I can send you the attached file?

I am also experiencing this bug. My arabic book Epub contains text that is not the correct color and is not in the correct position

As far as I can see this bug is already there with InDesign CC 2019! It's really the time to fix this issue.
Workarounds are very time intensive and can only maintain the visual appearance of the text, because one needs to convert the text to outline paths.More details here:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/farsi-rtl-book-does-not-export-to-epub/m-p/12806609#M468926While testing with older versions of InDesign I came accross another bug with text composition in the EPUB Interactive Preview panel and rendering the result with the Thorium Reader on Windows 10. A glyph P SEP was rendered. Details:

I have the same issue with Adobe Indesign 2022 Ver. 17.1 Arabic/English Version. I have spent three sessions with the support team. In my last support talk, the support Tech. offered me to have all pages rasterized as images. This solution is unacceptable and it is really not a solution. If I want to create ePubs using images, I would not waste my time learning how to work with Indesign.

What's the news on this feature? Please let us know what version addresses this issue.

Hello Aprinder,
Thanks for you offering, but with all due respect, this is a workaround, not a fix. We create complex documents 100s of pages long with multiple layers of interactivity. Manually changing the export options for literally thousands of individual text frame objects is definitely NOT a solution that will work for long document publication. Your solution, while technically valid as a temporary workaround, is definitely NOT "Issue fixed."

Everyone facing this issue please try these steps, I was able to export to epub smoothly using this:
Open the file in InDesign and right click on the text box and then click on Object Export Options. Here under the EPUB and HTML tab select 'Rasterize Container' from the drop down list box next to 'Preserve Appearance from Layout:' and select 'Format' as 'PNG'.
Export the file now to epub.

It's now over a year since this was reported here, and well over two years (as far as I can determine from community posts) since the bug was first discovered. Why can't this be fixed?! Anyone that uses right-to-left reading text is completely powerless to produce fixed-layout epubs for clients. It's a major problem with a key publishing feature! Does Adobe just not care about this community?

This bug is over a year old now. This bug REPORT is 8 months old as of this writing.
kmaz, it's mind-boggling that the Adobe tech you talked to doesn't know about this bug. Did you provide the link to this page?
Does Adobe just not actually care about users that need this to work? Those of us that need to use right-to-left languages for ourselves or our customers deserve better than this. I contact Adobe periodically through Twitter, but they give me the same run-around every time and just refer me back to this page to "watch for developments."

i'm having the same problem on adobe indesign 2021 version 16.2.1 and i contacted adobe support and they don't have support for indesign during the weekends !!!! so the will call me back next week and i think they have no solution for it yet because the person how was on the chat with me didn't have any idea about arabic text in indesign he told me to change the composer to adobe composer instead of world-ready composer!!!

It's great that you are reviewing this, but I was told by Adobe support over a month ago (by phone and via Twitter @AdobeCare) that this was already being actively worked on and would be fixed in the next InDesign ME update. This is a major issue for a lot of people, and an embarrassment for Adobe that a main export feature is so completely broken. Please, please expedite this!
