  1. Pressing enter in text frame does not automatically expand frame.

    Observed:
    Windows 10
    InDesign 13.1 x64

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Click to drag a text frame (about 1 line high)
    2. Type a number (e.g. "8")
    3. Press Enter/Return
    4. Type another number.

    Result:
The text frame does not expand automatically in this case and [+] appears. But if you type in a phrase first instead of a number, the frame automatically expands.

  2. Text Frame Row Options

Right now, text frames in Indesign only allow you to divide into columns. It should also give to divide into rows as well

In Illustrator, for text frames you have this option. See screenshot.
You can do it with by creating a table, but you cannot make it reflowable like a normal text frame.

It would be a fabulous feature have.

Please do same for Indesign, PRETTY, PRETTY PLEASE.

  3. Text Frame new options

It would be interesting if, in the Text Frame Options, there were an option to set a maximum size for both height and width. Thanks

  4. Adjust text in frame to the right

Text tool. If you have too much text for a text frame with a small amount of text (e.g. 1-10 words), the text frame should enlarge to the right instead of downwards by using the keyboard command cmd+alt+c.
It would improve the workflow significantly, since you don't always have to drag the text box "right" again afterwards.

  5. Object style frame fitting: add 'align towards/away from spine'

This feature very useful for paragraph styles, for aligning type on facing pages on a spread. Would be equally useful for objects, so can align images towards/away from spine

  6. Text Frame Row Rule Options

It would be brilliant to have this feature added in the Text Frame Options in order to be able to add a number of rows (and its attributes) along with the number of colums.

  7. Footnotes in Separate Detached Frame.

It is a very important feature to be able to customise the layout of footnotes with full control. Currently footnotes in InDesign are attached to the main text frame, & you have no control over it.

We suggest being able to have footnotes in a separate fully customisable text frame, while still being linked to the main frame!

  8. Automatically Apply Character and/or Paragraph Styles to Text Frame.

It would be helpful to have the text character and/or paragraph style in any given frame change dynamically as the text re-flows.

For example... If I have three columns of type and the middle column is reversed white type in a black frame, then I always want whatever text flows in the black frame to be white, even if it was previously formatted as black. And the white text in the black frame should automatically change back to black if it flows out of the frame.

  9. Align to selection / Align to page

Pressing Alt button could switch from "align to selection" to "align to page" when clicking on one of the align icons.

  10. InCopy - Indicator of the active text frame

When working with overlapping text frames, users can sometimes become confused about which frame they are editing. Is there a way to visually indicate the currently active text frame? For instance, highlighting it with a colored border could be helpful.

Alternatively, providing a simpler method to switch between different text frames would also be beneficial.

  11. Manually adjust width of columns in text frame

When there are multiple columns in a text frame, the width of each column is automatically divided evenly between the number of columns and the width of the frame. It would be nice to be able to manually change the width of those columns so they are not automatically all the exact same width, or height for that matter. I'm thinking much like how columns in a table can be adjusted, and then when the whole table is changed you can elect to have the manually adjusted columns shift accordingly or not. It would be nice to get…

  12. Adjust Text Frame With Type Tool

It KILLS me every time I input or type text in INDD and get the cursed overset text error, but I have to switch to the Selection Tool to reframe the text box, then switch back to the Type Tool and continue. PowerPoint and even Google Slides allow you to move your cursor near the boundaries and adjust the size of the text frame without switching tools.

What's more, switching to different tools while editing type is slightly annoying. Because you can't hit 'v' for selection tool, you either have to click the selection tool or click outside the …

You can easily achieve this without the need to switch to the Selection Tool.
Hold down the Ctrl key (while you are in text edit mode or even when you are not in text edit mode or when the text frame that you want to resize is not even selected). When you hover the mouse over the text frame, you will see Resizing handles (shown as 9 solid points on the bounding box) – you can drag to resize the text frame.
    Hope this helps.

  13. Directly create transparency on letters/words in a text frame

Currently it is not possible to define a letter or words within a text frame with a certain percentage of transparency. It is only possible to adjust the Tint. In the Effects Panel, the Transparency options are greyed out (not accessible).

Sometimes in a design you want to create such text effects, which at the moment can only be achieved with a workaround: an anchored text frame which poses several challenges if the transparent text runs over several lines.

Affinity Publisher offers this right out of the box in the current version (2.3.1). Quark Xpress can do this as well.…

  14. Allow bullets and numbers to hang outside of the text frame

There is currently no way to make a bullet or number hang outside of a text frame properly. The "optical margin alignment" feature control is iffy at best.

Attached are two photos that show what I mean.

In the first example, the "Correct" green bullets are not achievable in InDesign unless every other paragraph except for the bulleted paragraph has an additional positive left indent on all of its lines. It would be so much easier if we could just add a negative left indent to the first line of the bulleted paragraphs.

In the second example, a document…

  15. Data merge - auto fit (scale) too long texts when text frame is full.

Data merge - I still miss one key function - auto fit (scale) too long texts when text frame is full.

  16. Max size in Text Frame options.

Why is there a minimum size for text frames, but not a maximum size. We use Auto-size combined with text-wrap a lot with liquid layout templates to allow text to adapt to it's new sizes/dimensions. Occasionally it would be great if we could build a maximum size that the text box can grow too instead of giving it the minimum size.

  17. Footnotes -- align to bottom of page

I have struggled for hours and searched everything I can find to learn if Adobe has EVER YET come up with a method to align footnotes to the exact bottom of a page or text frame. Mine ride a little high here, a little low there, depending on various things happening in the main text, so that I can't get a consistent align-to-bottom and always must deal with this. CONSIDER THIS. When inserting a footnote, automatically create a separate text frame that can then be manipulated -- its alignment set to bottom, for instance. Now, THAT…

  18. expand text frame's ignore text wrap

In the text frame's options expand the ignore text wrap checkbox to give the options ignore text wraps below, ignore text wrap above or ignore all.

As you can see in the attached file I want the text frame to observe the text wrap on the image to the left which is above the text frame, but I wanted to ignore the text wrap on the right-hand image which is below the text frame.

  19. Scale type to fill text frame

When preparing newspaper or newsletter style layouts, it's quite common to scale headlines to fill available space.
It would be great if there was a way to automatically fit type to the frame it resides in, by scaling font size. I'm sure this would be very useful for data merge scenarios too.

Add the ability to adjust column guides inside text frames allowing for variable column widths within the text frame.
