Turn paths into guides with the right click menu "Make guides" like in Illustrator.
Pretty self explanatory. It's very useful for example if you need a marquee or an odd shape to serve you as a guide and most importantly, the snapping in InDesign between a line and a guide is so different and so hard to snap to a path.

Still not been implemented in 2024 despite it being a top rated issue. What a shock.

This request comes from 2017 but is still critical in 2023! Let Indesign converts paths in guidelines as is possible in Illustrator

I agree that this would be useful! In the meantime here is a workaround:
1. Create the shape that you'd like to use as a guide (I put mine on the parent page).
2. Define fill and strokes (I use very light colors, hairlines, no fill).
3. Select the items then enable Window > Output > Attributes > Nonprinting.
You can also lock them if you want. The shapes are hidden in preview mode, just like regular guides, and they don't print.

Would be very useful if we had "convert shape to guides" feature in InDesign. Is there anyone out there monitoring this Features request page, that can respond?

Did this ever get fixed? Love to have this feature in InDesign would be so helpful like the right click in Illustrator.

You can do this somehow by going to Window>Utilities>Scripts
And when on the scripts panel, Application>Samples>AppleScript and double click on AddGuides -

Yes, we need this feature

I need this. I need easy and fast made custom made guides in Illustrator from simple rectangle shapes, and I need this in InDesign. Why it's still — after years — not available on InDesign?

Are we any closer to this feature? Surely Adobe listens to its valued customers and users?

Yes please.

Yes, please. In fact, I wish InDesign and Illustrator could be combined into one Super app. I keep going back and forth landing on one of them to finish my layouts.

I've decided that I can just create a bounding box, or a shape, and click "Lock", but it won't have snap-to functionality.
