line break within Hebrew word
InDesign frequently breaks lines of Hebrew text in the middle of words. The work around is to add a Zero Length Joiner, but that can be a tedious process, especially when InDesign keeps that word together but breaks the line in the middle of a different word.

Live-Linking Word Document
Since updating to 14.0.3 the live linking function for text documents no longer works.
Since updating to 14.0.3 if I place a word document into my Indesign Document and ensure that the link text setting is turned on in file handline it places the word document but is unable to update the file when changes are made in word. It won't even allow for manual updating and you have to re-place the document every time you make an update. This means our project is going to take a lot longer to finish as we have to re-map our paragraph…

InDesign 15.1.1 English dictionary missing plural word spellings
Since the update every plural word version is not in the dictionary. Simple, basic words like 'years' and 'days' now show as a spelling error. It was working fine before the latest update. Get it fixed - it's pointless having the spellchecker when so many basic words are missing!

Word Import | BUG | Diacritic characters change language and formatting
Hi together,
if a Word docx or doc document contains text in italics that are not formatted using a character style diacritic characters will import to InDesign with:[1] Wrong language property. Instead of e.g. English (US) it will be Arabic
[2] Formatting is in "Regular" and not in "Italic"For more details see this thread at the Adobe InDesign Forum:

Indents incorrect when importing Word document
When importing a Word document that contains some indented paragraphs, the left indent being set to 5mm in Word (for example), once placed in InDesign, these 5mm indents typically show as 4.992mm. This would not neccesarily be a problem except that Find/Change in InDesign will not recognise an indent to 3 decimal places and therefore this cannot be located easily and fixed. This is proving to be a big problem in my workflow as I cannot automate the process of re-styling these paragraphs using InDesign Paragraph Styles with Find/Change. This bug occurs whatever measurement system is used, i.e. mm, inches,…

Crashes when Placing Docs from Microsoft Word
Since updating to CC2019 I am having constant crashes when placing from Microsoft Word.
The same documents were not an issue last week when using CC2018, both the same InDesign doc and word doc worked perfectly together.
Any suggestions as to how I can fix this critical issue - I'm on a business critical deadline, failing to meet it quite literally means the closure of our business.5 votesHello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while.
This issue is now fixed in the latest update (Id 14.0.1) of InDesign CC.
If you are unable to see the update notification yet, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right of Creative Cloud desktop application and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.Once the update button is shown against InDesign CC, click on the button to update your InDesign to Id 14.0.1 for the fix of the issue.

Please change one word in the German Indesign
The German Word "Abstände" is used two times in the paragraph style panel but with two completely different meanings.
First use "Einzüge und Abstände" is in English "Indents and Spacing".
Second use "Abstände" is in English "Justification".
Please change the second one to "Blocksatz" or "Blocksatzeinstellungen" so that the German users will not be confused anymore.
Or contact a German speaking InDesign pro user for a better translation.
Just a small change to make a lot of (German speaking) people happy!

InDesign won't import Microsoft Word Equations, even as graphics
Take the following word file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sta1b2iqhtx72if/basic%20word%20fail.docx?dl=0
it contains two equations that I've highlighted in the original.png file so their locations can be identified (I've only done this to the screen capture, they're not highlighted in the word file).
Now, place this word file into InDesign and the result as shown in result.png is that the equations are missing.
The version of Word used is Microsoft Word for Mac 16.16.11 (190609) but I'm sure the same thing will happen from Word for Windows3 votes -
Endnote references are not importing when placing word documents
I am placing a word 365 document into InDesign 2020 with endnotes ticked to be included and the endnote references are not importing. In the past the endnote references will display in-text and a full endnote reference list will display on the last page in one text box. I have tried using 2018/2019 with the same result. This appears to be a new bug. I have attached screenshots of the Word document with endnotes displayed and the InDesign document after placing the same word document which shows the endnotes have not been imported. Also an anchored text box is also…

BUG: Word import: Styles
InDesign 19.5 x64 (Win) 2024
When importing Word files wrong styles are applied:
- with no frame selected a style is chosen (p.a. Style-A)
- click in a frame, selected Style is different (p.e. Style-B)
- Word is imported (formatting removed, local overrides kept) -> Text (even if cursor is within text formatted in Style-B) is formatted in Style-A
This is bad p.e. when italics is needed as local override, and the wrong style is italics too (then evereything is italcs ...).

Stop adding the word "Folder" to packaged file names.
Stop adding the word "Folder" to packaged files. My folder names are already long enough and I can tell by the icon that my end product is a folder without it ending in the word "Folder." Would be thrilled if you removed this automatic addition from InDesign.

Adding words to Thai User Dictionary does not add whole word recognition
In Thai, you can add a word with or without hyphenation to the Thai language User Dictionary and that word does not become recognized as a whole word. If you double click on the word, it will still only highlight parts of the word that it recognizes as forming a word (leaving the rest of the added word not selected).
This leads to hyphenation problems because if InDesign still sees the word in three parts then it will break the word into those parts without recognizing the need to hyphenate the word.
So there needs to be…

Never break a word with Thai hyphenation dictionary
In English it is possible to add a hyphenation word to the user dictionary and if you want the word never to be hyphenated, type a tilde before its first letter. This will force the word to never break.
However with Thai you can add the word with the tilde but InDesign will not respect that word. The word will still be broken.

Crash on Importing Large Word File
InDesign v17.4
macOS 12.6 Monterey
Mac Studio (2022)InDesign is crashing on importing a large (859-page) Word .docx file. The document begins to import for a couple of seconds but then InDesign crashes and there is a 'may be damaged' warning on reopening the file.
Attempts were made to import into a completely new document and multiple variations of import settings have been tried, as has resaving, duplicating and deleting comments and saving the Word file. Smart Text Reflow has also been turned off but this hasn't helped.

Missing Objects in Word pdf printing
The file prints the banner and logo okay in pdf. But when I place them in Indesign 14.0.3 x64, and print them from there, two objects disappear. I'm also using Windows 7 7601 and latest Suitcase Fusion.
It seems to happen with pdf files that are exported from Word from my clients.

Absurd translation of the word "spread" in Czech UI
Please correct the absurd translation of the “spread” on the Effects window. In this context, you cannot translate it as “dvojstránky” (= two pages) but rather “rozšíření” – in InDesign CS6 the translation is correct.
Please note that in some languages one word can have multiple meanings. For example, in Czech we have one word for month and moon. The words are not interchangeable, you can’t say “the moon of July” in English. But this is exactly how you translate the aformentioned expression!
It is the same with the word spread in English, it has multiple meanings and cannot be…

Would like to know if we should go ahead & make this change.
Pl. let us know.
