InDesign performance issue: Text disappears while editing
When editing a text box, the text disappears.
I have to switch the display mode (Overview > Normal or Normal > Overview) to make the text appear again.
This bug occurs frequently (10~20 times a day) but I did not identify what is the trigger.
Version 2017.1
Build 12.1.0.56 x64
Windows 10 x64
We're happy to announce that the fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign - version 17.2 that is available to download from Creative Cloud Desktop application.
Please update to this latest InDesign version to get the fix.

Just updated to the latest version and this bug is back again!

Is there a reason why this happens on iMacs that don't have the M1 chip? When editing text it usually takes a second click before the change updates and is visible.

Seems to be fixed on my Mac running 17.4
Fingers crossed! -

Hi,
I'm using a studio Mac M1 32 gO and i 've made a migration from Studio Mac M1 6gO to the 32 go one, but now i've some problems in indesign (duplication with "alt " doesn't work, the space barre (hand tool) doesn"'t work either, and the texts blocs grouped dissapear when you want to modify them. I don't know how to fix it, and 'im using a logitech blutooth keyboard. Can somebody help me pls ?

Currently using 17.3 and this issue still persists.

Have you guys tried to update to 17.2.1? It worked for me and a lot of other users…

For folks looking for a workaround (still annoying): zoom in/out to have the text reappear w/out having to leave the keyboard.
This issue has not been fixed- and not sure how to remove the "fixed" status on this issue. I first started noticing it when I switched to a new Mac on the Apple chip, though colleagues on Intel chips have also reported this issue. I run into the issue on versions 17.0, 17.1, 17.2, and 17.2.1 -- I had to roll back to 17.0 since fonts were broken in 17.2.x and in short, would appreciate an update from Adobe as to when INDD core functionality will be back.
To address an older comment—I run into this issue when the Activity Monitor shows only 17% usage ... so does not appear to be linked to overall computer performance.

On 17.2 and text disappearing still an issue on MacOS. I am also on Monterey. Also issues with accessing link panel. Need to click three or four times to access. This version super buggy. Never seen anything like it

I am absolutely still having this problem on MacOS Monterey with InDesign 17.2

This is ridiculous. I'm having the same problem and it's seriously cutting into my productivity. I expect better from Adobe. Given the amount of folks that are commenting on this and that this is apparently been going on for quite some time - FIX THE PROBLEM! I don't pay this type of money for products that function this poorly.

I've installed the pre-release build (although mine shows as 17.7.1) and still having the same issue with the text randomly disappearing. Incredibly frustrating and massively slows down my work.

Happening in InDesign 2022 and latest Mac OS Monterey on Silicon Mac. Wasn't this supposed to have been fixed looooong ago?

I've just installed PreRelease build (17.2) and it looks like the issue has been fixed.

I'm having the same issues and it's frustrating as ****. Adding hours to my workflow. I agree, Adobe should be refunding or crediting users for this.

This is genuinely upsetting. Closing the file makes the text reappear but I can't do that every time I make an edit. Speed and accuracy are the two key things I need to achieve. This problem is affecting me on both fronts .... I updated InDesign yesterday and if anything it's worse, not better. Please, please fix!

Still not fixed. I'm on the latest Indesign version. Tried downloading the Beta version but apparently my Beta version has expired. This is really annoying. Most glitches I can tolerate but this genuinely hammers my productivity. You need to step this up.
Only thing that seems to get round it is overprint preview but that's not practical either as it puts a lot more strain on my graphics and RAM.

Literally deserve a refund lol the app is unusable on an iMac! Haven't been able to use the app for months and it is driving me up a wall.

I did as instructed, to download and install a prerelease build from the Creative Cloud desktop app, go to Apps > Categories > Prerelease (in my case it said Beta).
I was unable to run it once it installed. The message I receive being:
'Your InDesign (Beta) build has expired' - so I still have the same problem.. . .and of course I am paying monthly for something which isn't working correctly. If it was our car, I'd take it back to the garage and say "Fix it!" and stay until it was fixed!
