ID 2020 15.1 - All text variables (including page numbers) replaced by "ss" text
Just updated to ID 2020 15.1 and found a bug which makes the program unusable forcing me to immediately downgrade.
When I open on of my ID documents created in previous version of ID, all of my defined text variables as well as page numbers are corrupted and replaced by the "ss" text. Changing the style has no effect. I can create page number based on the 'Basic Paragraph' style but when i choose any other previously created style, the number changes to 'ss'.
Even the variable field preview shows 'ss' text instead of variable name.
The same document opens in ID 2020 15.0.3 without any problems.
The fix is now publicly available in the latest InDesign update, 15.1.1
Please update to this latest version to get the fix.

Do you know when the update will be available in Canada? Will it also fix the text variable bug?

Thank you, the bug is fixed with the latest update.
In the meantime, I did find that the bug occurred when a paragraph was formatted using the « Adobe Universal paragraph ». Using the standard on resolved the issue.

Nice to see the fix quickly. Hope no any major bugs at the moment. Updated to 15.1.1.
Also request to check the footnotes span bugs in 2 or more column. Though it's fixed but it's too slow to re paginate the rest of pages.

Check your Creative Cloud for an update to InDesign. Just installed it, and the problem is fixed.

I am happy to know that I am not the only one going through this problem. There is no version 15.1.1 available when selecting other versions in Creative Cloud. Has anyone figured out a solution to this problem?
Thank you! -

15.1.1 It is available if you click on the triple dots on "other versions" for Indesign update in Adobe Creative Cloud. I am not updating though; I feel safer to be on the older version (15.0.3) for now.

I have the same issue—which is a SHOWSTOPPER and has come at a REALLY BAD TIME—but version 15.1.1 does not show up in Creative Cloud update. How / where do I get v15.1.1?

Will it appear today?
Looking forward.

The sad truth is, Adobe has reached monopoly in the field, so they couldn't give a flying ****, please excuse my language, if their products are functional or not anymore. We the customers are deeply dependent on them, so there's nowhere to escape for us anyway.

For some reason I'm not getting 15.1.1 as an update option

My experience is that nothing changes if the document is an old or a new one.
With 15.1 "official" release variables and markers changes to "ss" as soon as you apply one World Ready Composer features to the paragraph. -

If you don't want to install the beta version or to downgrade, you can fix this by creating a new file from scratch. Avoid using documents created in previous versions for now.
