Word Lookup / Search with Google for text
How about adding a 'word lookup' OR 'search with Google' for words while working with text copy in Indesign and InCopy? I know there is a default dictionary integrated, but I'm talking about the way you can search any sentence or word in the most browsers just by right-clicking.
Basically, just a feature to add a search engine for text lookups directly from Indesign and InCopy - it will help a lot working with text copies and editing text stories directly from the program.
Merci beaucoup !

Double clicking the correct word in InDesign spell check
Ever since InDesign 1.0, when you used the spell check, you could double click on the correct word in the 'Suggested Corrections' area and the wrongly spelt word would be replaced, and then the spell checker would move on.
I am not sure at what stage this function stopped working, but it was definitely after CC was launched as it still works correctly in CS6. I think this is a bug.

PDF Hyphenation Bug when line has cross-reference, hyphenated word, and option is to create Tagged PDF
When exporting an InDesign document to PDF, the hyphenated word is displayed incorrectly in the output PDF.
It only happens with a line that has cross-reference object, hyphenated word, and option is to create Tagged PDF.
InDesign 2019 (14.0.1) (MAC/PC) . Also tried it with previous versions and it has the same issue.

Placing MS Word documents
Hi,
I am designing a Journal in InDesign with over 50 articles. All the articles are done with MS Word with footnotes etc. After placing about 45 articles I found that in some placed articles the fonts have changed in certain pragraphs. Since I noticed this at the tail end, I did some experiments and placed the next article with the option "Redefine InDesign style" selected and the exact fonts were placed. But to my surprise there are 90 errors in the already placed 45 articles.
How come InDesign change the structure of the previous 45 articles when I am…

style from word not recognised
When I, in a word document linked to Indesign add a style which begins with the name of anther style, followed by a comma (no space) and more text, InDesign does not recognise that this is a new style but instead treats it (and calls it) by the other (shorter) style name. Workaround is to e.g. use an underscore instead, but it took me quite a while that is was this issue that caused the strange indesign behaviour.

Index sorting: offering choices «letter by letter» vs «word by word» vs user defined
When generating an index, InDesign has always use letters by letters sorting. It would be far useful if InDesign Index offer the choice between:
a) letters by letters;
b) Words by Words;
or c) Custom user entryHaving to manually fix multiple level of indexes is painful and make no sense at all with a computer generated content like an Index.
PS: Affinity Publisher is using «words by words» by default.

Bug with InDesign 16 Word and Textedit
I noticed a huge performance bug.
When I am working on a book with many pages and switch to an app like Word or Textedit and then back to InDesign, I get a beach ball for 30–60s. Only in InDesign. When I quit Word or Textedit, the beach ball disappears and InDesign runs normal again.
Restart eg. doesn't help!System: Big Sur

Importing Microsoft Word files doc. and .docx
Creative Cloud and Office 364 is up-to-date (although this issue happened before the upgrade so it has something to do with the import filter for .docx files into InDesign [this is the first occasion]).
While importing a .docx file, revisions from the word file appeared in the layout text. I noticed as I started to typeset. Scary.
Checked the Word file, upon Select All, references in the text were highlighted in a darker gray. There was no extra text appearing and revisions were all approved and accepted.
Word file was saved as a .dotx file and imported, the mysteriously embedded…

Crash: Dynamic spelling with special word
There is a crazy bug: when the dynamic spellcheck is active (German, Duden) and you are typing in a text frame hintereinanderherschlichen (it’s a German word) indesign crashed immediately.
We don’t know why, but then, after the crash, and when the dynamic spell check is still active, InDesign crashes again when it tries to recover the document.

map Word lists to InDesign lists and paragraph styles
As the InDesign help documentation notes (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/map-export-manage-styles.html), "Text styles with bullet or number lists may not be copied or exported to a different application with the bullets or numbers intact." The suggested workflow is extremely time-consuming for a long document where every paragraph is assigned to a hierarchical outline structure in Word, since each paragraph has to be manually assigned to the correct paragraph style and the Word outline numbering that was converted to text needs to be manually deleted. In addition, when placing the document, it creates a separate new "imported list" style from each Word…

Placing Word-document imports wrong language for built-in style names
Versions affected:
InDesign CC2021 (and older).Steps:
1. Use a non-english Word-version to make a Word-document.
2. Use built-in styles to style text. For example "Overskrift 1" ("Heading 1" in Norwegian).
3. Save as .docx
4. Save as .doc
4. In InDesign, Place the two Word-documents (including styles/formatting)Expected result:
* Both documents import with the same style names they had in Word ("Overskrift 1").Result:
* The docx places the text with the style name "Heading 1" (wrong)
* The doc places the text with the style name "Overskrift 1" (correct)This makes round-trips via Word…

[ID-4261000]Hebrew Text with Vowel Points Reorders Incorrectly When Pasted from InDesign to Word
When keying (or importing) Hebrew text, InDesign often misplaces vowel points when two or more vowel points are attached to a single base character unless the base character and vowel points are keyed in a specific order. I don't totally understand it, but it has something to do with Unicode normalization. Microsoft Word gets around this problem, but I can't say how. It would be nice, however, if InDesign could get around it, too.
One Hebrew font, SBL Hebrew, has written Unicode features (?) to prevent the normalization problem, but most fonts cannot do this on their own in InDesign.…

Honor Word Break Boundaries for Overflowing Text / Line Breaking for Non-ZWSP Text
Lao (SEA Asian) text that doesn't already have ZWSPs included, doesn't automatically line-break, even though double-select word selection shows that the ICU/HarfBuzz engine is finding them. It would be nice to be able to set for paragraphs the ability to use non-ZWSP text and have ID automatically line-break based on the ICU/HarfBuzz word boundaries.
Not all people will want this, should it should be made easy to enabled/disable, because some people use ZWSPs to manually control layout features, and don't prefer automatic word-boundary analysis.
