Proportional Scaling Using Shift Button Not Working
In the 2017.1 release of InDesign, the ability to hold Shift and scale objects proportionally seems to have disappeared. I know for me this is a major functionality problem that is increasing the time I have to spend on current projects. I've checked support forums and others are encountering this problem, but I haven't yet seen a solution.

Thank you for your patience all this while; we really appreciate your support!
Our investigation suggests that one of common reasons for the problem is that certain software (mostly antivirus and other security applications) and browser extensions happen to enable “Secure Keyboard Entry” on Mac machines due to which some keys such as Shift key in this case do not perform the desired action in InDesign.
For now I request you to follow the below provided KB doc for the quick workaround of the problem.

In the comments section many of the users have confirmed that disabling Webroot SecureAnywhere (a security app) has resolved the issue for them. Please note that, the problem may not be related to a particular software; there could be a different application or antivirus which might be causing the problem by enabling Secure Keyboard Entry on Mac.

I'm having the same issue in 2023 on windows machine and it looks like it's not been resolved. the answer listed from the admin does not work.

same issue here in 2022. glad my uni is paying for adobe because all I've had these past 10 weeks is glitches and issues!!

Quitting all the browsers and restarting fixed the problem. Its ridiculous – for all that money I'm paying I'm expecting basic functions to work (don't let me started with scripting and GREP styles problems).
Adobe – if I deliver deliver work to my clients with such a major flaw – how many commissions will I have you think?
And what is Webroot? Why should I care? I have no desire to be a programmer or technician. Just solve it – it is what I'm paying you for!!!! -

ridiculous. none of the solutions work. this is what happens when you have a monopoly. and the fact that they don't really have a "help" center, but outsource it to the user forum. all that money and adobe cannot pay people to fix the software and assist users. glad the shareholders have multiple homes and luxurious vacations. just screaming into the abyss here.

This problem occured yesterday - I restarted my Mac without help. Still problem today – I quit Chrome and startet again and the problem disappeared. :-)

Im having this problem and I dont have webroot installed on my macbook. InDesign is basically unusable for me without these functions.

Same issue with the latest update 2020. I am also experiencing issues with master pages. Some of the information doesn't show, although when you go to the master page it is there. When applying the style again, information reappears, however, the other pages now have issues. 2019 worked flawless. I will be reverted back to 2019 until they work out these bugs.

Same problem since my last Update to Indesign 2020 (15.1.1) ... Very disappointed...
I just past 1,5 hour in a "adobe remote" with an Adobe Expert to resolve the bug and the team have no solutions for now... I wish some solutions in the next week... If some people have question, here's the number of the case : Case number ADB-13937799-T1J5.

Quitting Chrome worked for me. If that doesn't work, close all browsers.

Shift key also doesn't work when trying to lock a moving object on the same plane. Would love to know a fix for this SHIFT key issue if anyone has any.
