[ID-4228495]Export Tagging: ‘i’ character in class name exports as blank space
I just did the 2018 update, so I think it's the most recent version: 13.0 x64
I have a document template that contains many character and paragraph styles with export CSS tags that contain the lowercase ‘i’ in them. This character is being exported as a blank space, which completely breaks the CSS, like this:
should be: <p class="bright"></p>
getting: <p class="br ght"></p>
This problem was easily replicated in a fresh new document, so it’s something with InDesign, rather than my template file.
This workflow involves complex style mapping through to CSS classes. Because so many of the classes contain the character 'i', this problem has brought the workflow to a dead halt.
We are reviewing this issue.

Still having the same problem: letters randomly disappear from the CSS tag... I'm in OSX Monterey, InDesign 2024

@Adobe - You really need to get this bug in the development queue. It impacts anyone creating EPUB files from an InDesign project that utilizes styles. And that likely includes pretty much anyone that typesets a print book in InDesign and then needs to make an ebook as well. As others have mentioned, this bug also effects other characters than just the character "i".

Hi. This is an old one, but it's *started* happening to me recently.
The letter that's missing now is consistent - it's any instance of 's'.So, <pre class="programlisting"> is being exported as <pre class="programli ting"> and <p class="lesson"> is being exported as <p class ="le on"> (note that the double 's' in 'lesson' is being replaced with a single space...
I saw it on one file a while ago (about 6 months?) but assumed I had done some silly find/replace that had managed to change things without realising. This time it is every single export with a class name that includes 's'. It is consistently 's' in my case, but I don't know if that will change. I do this approximately once a month, and it's quite a big proportion of my work, with a tight timescale.
Windows 11 PC (64-bit) with latest Windows updates and latest update of InDesign available (19.4 x64).

This is now happening to me in Epub in InDesign 2024 (18.5) for Mac and it's a NIGHTMARE. This was happening in 2018 and they still haven't fixed it?!?!?!?

This is nearly a daily occurrence for my team and I. Every day, It's different characters that get substituted for a space in HTML classes. It wouldn't be so bad if they got substituted for a character other than a space as (since classes are space separated) you have to be very careful when doing a find and replace in the HTML file.

This issue persists in v16.4 x64 (2021) on Windows 10. Most recently it was the figure '5' that was being missed in my class names. Restarting InDesign did resolve it, but it's a pain to have to go through the exported HTML source to check that all the classnames have been set correctly.

When this bug will be fixed? This make me nuts! We have a large team of people working with exporting html with Indesign having this issue. Sending a file is useless because is totally random how this happened.

Still not repaired. I just realized, that it has a problem with some particular letters, for example "e", so when you have the style named "K-vyslech" you will then have "K-vysl" in the stylesheet BUT! "K-vysl ch" in your .xhtml code.
Please, repare it!

I'm experiencing the exact same issue in the most recent build: 16.0.1 x64 - on Windows 10
I've set up classes for styles (Paragraph and Character) under Export Tagging, and random ones will not get passed to the EPUB correctly as described in the original post. If I restart InDesign, different classes will get messed up.
This ticket seems to be a duplicate of this issue:

Can we get a bug fix on this? Creating classes in an EPUB from styles is a core function of generating ebooks, so this is a critical bug to fix. It is causing us to have to do manual auditing of our files.

Hi!
I have also been experiencing that different letters disappear from the export tags when I export to e-pub thereby making it impossible to have the correct formatting in the e-book.
Sometimes I can export without the letters disappearing but often there is a problem.
A few days ago I downloaded the latest updates for Windows 10 and I am using Indesign 16.0 which should be the latest version (as of December 2020). It seems like this bug has been around for a few years now. Please can someone from Adobe try to fix this?

Again facing this problem with the latest InD 2021 😩.

I have a similar problem with the latest InD too. It's shortens the filled names of the HTML classes in the CSS file and makes some own different names in the .html files itself. It's quite messy then :(

The epub 3.0 reflowable and html exports are dropping characters from the export tags in the html/xhtml files. This just started happening in the last few weeks (not sure exactly when it started), perhaps early Aug 2019. My version of InDesign is upgraded to CC V14.0.3 x64, and it is still happening. I've attached 4 screenshots: 2 show the export tags in Paragraph styles, and the other 2 show the files generated by InDesign (1 in html and 1 in xhtml from an epub export). Characters are dropped from the styles. It doesn't drop a character in all styles, and it's not always the same character. I've exported MANY html/epub files, and the last few weeks is the first time it has ever done this. Please help!

We're having this issue as well. InDesign 13.0.1 x64.
However, it only happens on our Windows 10 computer. The issue is not present on Windows 7 (same InDesign build).
It appears to drop random letters out of class names. I can open the same file following an InDesign restart, redo the HTML export, and the next time around it'll drop different random letters.

Issue should get resolved after restarting InDesign.

I was having the same problem but with the letter "f" disappearing from classes. However, restarting InDesign fixed the problem.
Whether the problem recurs again, perhaps with a different letter, remains to be seen.
