I lost all Save, Save As, Undo functionality (everything is grayed out). To save my work, I have to export as an IDML .

Lost all Save, Save As, Undo functionality while working.
To save my work, the only thing to do is to export as an IDML file. Force quitting to recover the file doesn't work. This has been happening to me since InDesign 5.5. I am currently using InDesign CC 2018. There are no particular steps, it happens at random. I can have several files open and it only happens to one file, or sometimes it's more than one file. It happens whether I'm working off of my Desktop or on our server.

As part of the investigation into the cause of this issue, we personally reached out to many of you over email. We have so far heard from only some of you.

Of the responses we have received, the conclusion we’ve come to is:
This issue was intermittent, happened once during the course of work but somehow got resolved and has not happened again. This issue can’t be reproduced now.

Over a period of time, this thread has not thrown any fresh clues on why this issue seems to occur randomly for some and then seems to resolve itself. So we’re closing this thread.

However, even though we’re closing this thread, if you again run into this issue any time on a consistent basis, please report it here on UserVoice (in a new thread) with supporting assets like:
A) a test file,
B) detailed steps to replicate the issue
C) any specific type of content that causes this
D) a screen recording, etc.
E) ID version, OS, etc.
(You can put the testing artifacts at a shareable location and share the link with us, reaching us at sharewithID@adobe.com OR rkiran@adobe.com.
This will help us immensely in determining a proper fix for this issue.

    Perhaps related somehow to the whole Adobe Cloud? I use InDesign CS6 (because of a plug-in we use) as well as the CC versions. Our CS6 version has the same grayed out save, save as problem. I have to use "Save a copy" to save. CS6 always crashes when trying to close the program too.

    Just experienced the same scenario. Can't undo or save. Re-starting the program fixed it for now.

    I cannot save, undo and most edit functions aren't working. Just started today.

    It just happened to me. I spent 3 hours updating a file, always saving before I print. Undos stopped working. Saving before closing wouldn't work. The program simply said "InDesign cannot save." It just started happening today.

    I see admin comment to fix this with " please respond to email that has been sent to you" but never received email.

    This issue just started. I finally switched to CC after years of CS5 and it was fine for the past month until now. I am on Mojave OS. The only new thing I've done in the last week is update the apps...hmm. It also won't let me go back to a prior edit (control Z on mac) which is hugely annoying.

    I've also been having issues with the save, save as and undo functions. It happens on selective documents.

    So far I've been able to save as an IDML, restart InDesign and the functions appear again, but it would be nice if I didn't have to do this.

    I have Adobe Standard DC. Can't save ANY PDF files.

    Since running the latest update, randomly I can't save, save as, copy or paste. Been working on a document for over an hour hitting cmd-s regularly thoroughout without realising it wasn't actually working.
    From this thread it looks like I'm not the only one this is happening to and is a MASSIVE issue.

    I have this problem on my iMac at home and on the iMac at the publicity agency where I work.
    Can it be fixed fast you think ?

    I am having this same issue! Gray Save and Save As an no undo options ether.

    Now we have an improved version of this - I can't even export to idml!!
