  1. embeded Illustrator documents in InDesign looses page information, after being used in library

    We have following situation:
InDesign library with an embeded Illustrator document. this document has pages (used for different icons). I have placed page 3 of the Illustrator file in as InDesign document. I place the element in an library in InDesign.
I place the same object from the library in the document. The Element looses the pageinformation. the preview is still correct, but when i export an PDF it collects the information from the illustrator file again and it has an other icon in its place…

So it is a massive problem of missmanaging elements and creates Errors in production!…

  2. Endnotes are out of sequence in captions and sidebars

I work on books that often have endnotes in captions or sidebars. The captions/sidebars are always set up as separate frames (and sometimes as anchored objects). Any endnotes in separate frames end up at the end of the endnote list, regardless of where they fall in the page order.

  3. InDesign changing opacity for an unselected item

I am trying to place a slightly opaque rectangle over an image but when I select to lower the opacity on the rectangle, the image (regardless if it's above or below) changes as well.

What's more odd is when I select that photo after I do the action, the image says it is at 100%. The "change" has not been reflected. I have uploaded a 1-2-3 photo demo. Note the photo's slight change in transparency although set at 100%.

This happens when the photo and rectangle are in separate layers, as well. The two items are not placed within each…

The magic of InDesign’s effects all happens via Adobe’s transparency technology, which allows us to blend colors and detail from different objects. In order for it to all work there has to be a consistent color space for InDesign to use when it blends colors. This is called the Transparency Blend Space and it’s really important that you understand it in order to get the most out of InDesign’s effects. When we use transparency effects, InDesign compares different objects and combines their colors and detail. In order for objects to be blended, they have to be in the same color space. So when you apply transparency, InDesign converts everything on a spread to the Transparency Blend Space, regardless of whether that object is actually involved in the effect. And it’s important to note that when we say things are converted, we don’t mean that InDesign alters your placed files; they…

  4. main artboard disappears when plugging in or unplug display (GPU Viewing Problem)

I work with switching setups on my macbook, sometimes without an external screen, sometimes i move to my home office and plug in a bigger display.

When indesign is opened and a file is opened, you cant do that without having to save and reopen the document. Because whenever you attach or detach a display - the main artboard / window with pages turns completely grey / invisble and you cant see anything anymore, but you can hover the elements.

Switching to "Overprint Preview" brings back the visibility, switching it off makes the pages invisible again. Same with "…

  5. Blank Document/Pasteboard when Display Profile Changes

When the display profile changes, i.e., when using automatic profile switching when room lighting changes (Spyder), document pages and any items on the pasteboard disappear. The rest of the UI remains the same.

The 'fix' suggested elsewhere is to turn GPU preview off. However, when you do that, clicking on the document/pasteboard makes both flash white and can also make the document jump leftward to the edge of the window.

The only real fixes are to close and reopen the document(s) or restart InDesign.

And just in case anyone is tempted to suggest I stop using Spyder or any other…

  6. Edit with other - doesn't see Photoshop as an application

I use the Indesign feature on the links menu to Edit With, either using the default application or another. We just updated to the latest CC (ps, il, in) and the other application isn't the same. For any jpg or pdf, it shows Photoshop or illustrator or Acrobat as available to open the image selected. However, if I select an ai. file, it shows Illustrator as the default, and Preview as another option - no Photoshop. I select Other to add Photoshop, go to the applications folders, click on Photoshop and it's only seeing it as a folder, not as…

  7. InDesign CC UI scaling problem on multiple monitors with different resolutions

InDesign Version: Adobe InDesign CC 13.1 x64
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro build 1709.
Monitors: Portrait orientated Dell U2415 24 inch (1200x1920) with 100% windows scale option and Landscape orientated Dell UP3216Q (3840x2160) with 150% (Recommended) scale.

    Steps to reproduce the issue:
    1. Open InDesign CC on the 32 inch monitor
    2. Move all or some of the panels to the 24 inch monitor

    Expected result:
Panels in the 24 inch monitor should adapt to the resolution of the monitor the same way Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC does – crisp and nice.

    Actual result:
    Panels don't adapt to monitor's…

  8. Share for Review from InDesign Book 'artifact' error

When I try to share chapters from a book for review the Share for Review either doesn't function beyond clicking the 'Share for Review' 'Create New Review' or populates the details with the wrong file name and then fails to proceed (giving an 'artefact' error.

I solved it by doing the chapters one at a time with no other chapters open and the InDesign Book closed - but it took me a few hours to work this out.

Even when doing the chapters separately their Title Field of the Share for Review document is sometimes the previous document's name and…

  9. Use Auto-Sizing and Text Wrap Frame on causes application crash

Environment: InDesign 2020 (15.0.2 Japanese version) + macOS (confirmed with 10.15.3 and 10.14.6)

    • create and connect two text frames
    • set Auto-Sizing "Height and Width" on Text Frame Options
    • Insert text into two frames full
    • overlay graphic frames with Text Wrap settings ON
    • move the graphic frame appropriately (drawing is not normal at this point)
    • close documents with Command + W

During this operation, you will usually be asked to confirm the save, but suddenly InDesign will end and the application will crash.
Also, if you try while overwriting with Command + S without Command + W, you may not be…

    CLOSED  ·  amaarora responded

    Hi
Based on internal investigation and customer comments, we have concluded that the issue got fixed in InDesign 15.0.2 and that issue happens with InDesign 15.0.1 version only.

Please start a new thread in case you see the issue happen with InDesign 15.0.2

    Thanks

  10. Hairlines/artifacts randomly appearing on screen

Glitches of bands of light or dark pixels may appear over images, in transparencies and effects. These may come and go depending on resolution preview mode, zoom and/or if overprint preview is rendered. (The lines are similar to tiling lines in PDFx1a in that they are rendering glitches presumably caused by floating point calculations)

    See the thread https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign/lines-appearing-in-effects-shadow-amp-gradient/m-p/11912229#M419035

  13. text shadow

I have a text box with Drop Shadow Effect on the text itself. When I edit the text, the shadow does not change. I discovered quite accidentally that Undo (CTRL+Z) then Redo (CTRL+SHIFT+Z) fixes the issue.

However, when I change the angle of the object (text box), the text moves but the shadow remains in place. I cannot fix it even by adjusting the Effect angle options.

I have another issue where I have two separate text boxes on the same page with the exact same font and supposed font size, but the text is quite obviously not actually the…

  14. Indesign file shows as modified upon opening a page with placed PNGs

    1. InDesign 19.0.1
    2. Steps to reproduce: open an InDesign file with a placed PNG.
    3. Expected result: file opens, no asterisk appearing next to file name.
    4. Actual result: file opens, PNG re-renders in high quality, asterisk suddenly appears next to file name.

As of this morning, every time I open a file that has placed PNGs, InDesign flags the document as modified, with the asterisk and asks me if I want to save the document before closing, even I made zero edits. To give even more credence, it only happens when I navigate to a page that has a linked PNG file…

  16. postscript file

Print dialog set to print 3 x 3 thumbnails. I selected Postscript File in the Printer menu, and it blocked the thumbnails options. I saved the .ps file, but it was not usable:

When the file was converted [whether with Acrobat Distiller or Preview], the layout was for a vertical page layout, with the right page of each spread cut off.

Question: How can I create a usable Postscript or PDF file for thumbnails?

  17. error with image display

in a large brochure with a large number of images, some of them are not displayed in "Display Performsnce - Typical" mode - instead of the image, only a rectangle is visible. Moreover, in the "High quality display" mode, these images appear, and those that were displayed in the Typical mode, on the contrary, disappear. This all happens in the "normal" screen mode. In the preview screen mode, everything is displayed. (Display via the GPU is set)

  18. Table borders, strokes, artifacted in InDesign problem

InDesign ver. 16.1 (2021): Table borders and strokes created on a separate layer and artifacted in InDesign are not tagged as artifacts when converted to PDF.
Close to a hundred "Path Object" errors flagged by the PAC 3 Accessibility Checker which we are required to use. The problem is none of these borders and strokes can be accessed in Acrobat with the Reading Order tool and therefore cannot be marqueed as artifacts. They are simply “not available” in Acrobat, yet PAC 3 flags them as “Path Object Not Tagged” errors.
~ Replacing tables with paragraph borders (on single layer) in…

  19. Document slowdown when fonts not activated

When fonts aren't activated in an InDesign document, InDesign CC2019 slows down and is practically unusable unless you activate most or all of the fonts used in the document. This wasn't the case in previous versions of InDesign, when you could deactivate fonts intentionally in order to troubleshoot files. In long form documents that may use multiple fonts, this was an especially useful tool.

As InDesign documents are frequently separated from their fonts, especially when using font managers instead of Document fonts, this slowdown becomes a burden when checking files in larger workflows and inhibits font troubleshooting. Could the behavior…
