[EPV] Footnote references vanish in tables when the Adobe World-Ready Composer is applied
Hi together,
tested with InDesign 2020 and also with the current InDesign 2023 version 18.1.0.51 on Windows 10.
If I apply one of the two Adobe World-Ready Composers to text in a table the footnote references in the text will vanish.
The footnote texts themselves do not. It's just the rendering of the footnote reference numbers.See also this thread at Adobe InDesign Forum:

BUG (since CS6!): Nonbreaking Space (^S) Issue with World-Ready-Composer
Issue:
When using the ›World-Ready Composer‹, the character ›Nonbreaking Space‹ (^S) behaves exactly like the character ›Nonbreaking Space (Fixed Width)‹ (^s); i.e.: in justified paragraphs, its width does not adjust (like regular spaces do), but it is fixed and unchanging.
This only occurs with the ›Adobe World-Ready Composer‹ (both ›Paragraph‹ and ›Single-line‹) and not with the regular ›Adobe Composer‹ (neither ›Paragraph‹ nor ›Single-line‹).
It is not related to the font used, it has been tested with many different fonts.Versions with this bug, tested and confirmed by myself or colleagues:

World Ready Paragraph Composer not working for Tibetan
Adobe 2017.1 release, build 12.1.0.56
Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer (AWRPC) for Tibetan fonts does not work in InDesign. While this was not an issue in CS4 since the Adobe Paragraph Composer (APC) was working well for at least two fonts (Jomolhari-ID and SambhotaUnicode), it has become an issue preventing us from using any later versions of InDesign: the APC became unusable for Jomolhari (our main font), and since the AWRPC was never completely working, we are now in a situation where neither APC or AWRPC works… (though SambhotaUnicode still works for APC only).
Jomolhari-ID can be downloaded here: https://collab.its.virginia.edu/access/content/group/26a34146-33a6-48ce-001e-f16ce7908a6a/Tibetan%20fonts/Tibetan%20Unicode%20Fonts/Jomolhari-ID-a3d.zip

World-Ready Composer Breaks Text Variables on Export to Fixed Layout ePub Format
If one inserts a current page number marker or a text variable on a master page and the paragraph style of that text specifies Adobe World-Ready Composer in Justification, when exported to fixed layout ePub, the page number or text variable will not print. This bug is present in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 and possibly earlier versions (haven't checked).

misaligned InCopy Galley/Story cursor when World-Ready composer and inline notes are used
The cursor in InCopy's Galley/Story view is misaligned when the underlying paragraph style specifies a "World Ready" paragraph composer AND inline notes precede the cursor in the same paragraph as the cursor.
Steps to reproduce:
- Launch InCopy 2023
- Make a new document.
- Enter text for two paragraphs.
- Make a paragraph style for the first paragraph and specify the "Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer." Apply that style to the 1st paragraph.
- Make a 2nd paragraph style based on the first, but specify the "Adobe Paragraph Composer" (i.e., NOT World-Ready). Apply that to the 2nd paragraph.…1 vote -

Variable fonts broken with World Ready Paragraph Composer
Using the World-ready composer essentially breaks the glyph width interpolation of Variable Fonts. The outcome is that text set in a Variable Font will receive the Variable Font's default style's horizontal glyph widths for any axis location, resulting in unusable overlap or gaps.
Attached you find a sample Indesign file with comparison and a screenshot thereof. This happens with any Variable Font I have tested so var, but to complete the same test case as included, download https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-sans-pro/releases/download/3.006R/source-sans-pro-3.006R.zip and install VAR/SourceSansVariable-Roman.otf as well as OTF/*.otf files.

BUG: Small Caps not applied correctly to Variable Text with World-ready Composer
Using Adobe Indesign 19.3 on MacOS 14.4, Apple M1.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Make new document.
2. Define a text variable "Test" with custom text "Handgloves".
3. Insert variable in text frame.
4. Set the composer for that paragraph to "World-ready..."
5. Set the paragraph in Small Caps
6. Try different fonts.Expected result: small caps.
Actual Result: only first two characters are changed to small caps. Typing characters after the variable placeholder changes how many characters are changed to small caps. See attached video.
Workaround is to change the paragraph to a non World-ready composer.

Not all spaces are rendered correctly with World-Ready Composer
The narrow no-break space (U+202F) is not rendered correctly when the World-Ready Composer is used: its width becomes equal to a normal space, instead of being thin.
See attachment for illustration (the problem occurs regardless of the font used), reproduced with InDesign v16.4.

problem with optical margin alignment and world-ready paragraph composer
This happens in multiple versions of InDesign. I've reproduced it in ID CS 6 (8.1.0.420), ID CC 2019 (14.0.3.433), ID 2021 (16.4.0.55), and ID 2022 (17.0.0.68).
Steps to reproduce:
(1) Open InDesign
(2) Create a new empty document
(3) Create a text frame that is 100 mm by 100 mm
(4) Place Text4.txt
(5) Go Type > Story > check Optical Margin AlignmentExpected result:
The left margin should be somewhat ragged because the * character needs to be shifted left to make the margin appear straight. The right margin should be completely even because each line ends with the…

World-Ready composer breaks hyperlinks for Publish Online
When the WR composer is applied to text, it breaks hyperlinks when the document is published via Publish Online. The hyperlinks work fine when the document is sent to PDF. The hyperlinks work fine when the WR composer is changed to the Adobe Paragraph Composer.

Phonetic tie and World-Ready Composer
I'm seeing a behavior that I believe to be a bug. When I have a phonetic spelling with a tie character—for example, d͡ʒ"—using Indesign's paragraph composer, Indesign renders it as three characters—d + [tie] + ʒ. When I change to the world-ready paragraph composer, however, InDesign joins the tie to the character before it such that it can't be moved. I tried using a non-joiner between them, but InDesign just joins the tie to the non-joiner.

Cross references rendered to big/wrong line break
Text with cross references isn't rendered correctly. The line break is triggered far to early (see IDML and PNG) image.
The line break works with the Adobe World-Ready Composers but not with the Classic Composers.
I cannot use the World-Ready Composers because of the justified nonbreaking space see https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/41793187-bug-since-cs6-nonbreaking-space-s-issue-wit

Some Thai characters are misplaced when not using World-ready composer
2 votesInDesign has started supporting SEA languages since ID 2020. Adobe WR composer needs to be selected to compose in SEA languages correctly. Since Thai is a SEA language, please use Adobe WR composer for the correct composition of the text.

World-Ready Composer Is messing up the kerning in Latin fonts
I have reported a variation of this—back with CS6—but it seems not to have been fixed. I assume it's a bug, but if someone can enlighten me about what I might be doing wrong and how I can fix this, I'd appreciate it.
I often work on books that include Arabic and Hebrew words and phrases in the middle of English text. They only way to get the Arabic ligatures to form is to use one of the World Ready composers. When I do that, though, the kerning around some English characters often—but not always—is affected. I have tried turning…

Footnote: Problems with Small caps when using World-Ready Paragraph Composer
ID 23 and 24: When the Footnote Text Paragraph Style has World-Ready Paragraph Composer enabled, then there is a problem with formatting in the first line of the footnote: Starting from Footnote 10, the problem appears. When Small Caps is applied (via open type font) then the style is applied to 1 letter before the styled text range and 1 letter at the end of the text is not styled as should be. So the staling is shifted for 1 letter regarding the applied style. When the footnote number is 3 digits, then the styling is shifted by 2 letters.
