[ID-4274243] InDesign clearing Undo stack frequently
Undo not working, InDesign 21.02x64
16.12.2025
As recently as yesterday, it was possible to perform more than 50 undo actions, but today only 1–2 steps are available, and my colleagues are experiencing the same issue.
Fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign 2026 release (21.2.0.30), please update to this release from CCD app.

@David Cox and @Kath, the update was available for me on the 28th of January. It says 21.2 in Creative Cloud Desktop, and viewing the file details it's 21.2.30. A number of other users confirm the same thing, and my screen shots are from Creative Cloud Desktop and the file details respectively.
@Kath: If the version is right, I guess the date does not matter. Perhaps you already installed the same version from the prerelease site?
@David Cox: Press Check for updates and have another look. What does your update list look like in the Creative Cloud Desktop? Attach a screen shot here to get more help.
(I'm just a user like the two of you, trying to help.)

Are you serious?? THIS IS IN NO WAY FIXED. There is no update available in CCD, that is a straight up lie. Please Adobe, address this urgent problem. It is unacceptable that a flaw this basic was released as production code, but since you did, FIX THIS NOW. I can live with disappearing text. I can live with palettes that don't open. But one undo, maybe 2?? It is not 1997. I have serious work to do. My entire department is struggling with this.

The latest version 21.2.0.30 is not available. The one offered is 21.2 dated January 23...
How can I access this latest version (on W11)? -

Why is the issue marked as FIXED? The pre-release version isn't the final version. Not everyone wants or can install test versions. When will you fix this and other issues? At my company, we had to switch to Affinity, which is fast and stable, but unfortunately, we can't migrate all our Indesign documents to it.

The update released today seems to have finally fixed the undo issue. Fingers crossed for the text disappearing part. Thank you!

it appears that the public release in the US has happened this morning. 21.2 has been released. this is the version that supposedly fixes the undo/disappearing text issues.

Just making a request for an update from Ravi Kiran or the admin team on what the expected timeline is for the release of the version with this bug fix. As a few others have already said, many organizations, ours included, will not widely deploy prerelease software to production teams. It would be great to be able to tell the affected staff that the solution is coming in days, weeks, next month or?
My thanks to the others who have been able to test the prerelease version and report back. That's helpful for the rest of us stuck on the release cycle!

For over a month, I have been experiencing an issue with the History function in InDesign. Regardless of how long I work on a document, I am unable to undo more than a few steps. Sometimes I can go back three or four steps, and other times only one. This behavior occurs both when using keyboard shortcuts and when using the History panel.
Updating to InDesign version 2026 did not resolve the issue. I have also searched for similar reports and found that many users on various forums are experiencing the same problem and have already reported it to Adobe Support. Despite this, the issue has not yet been resolved and the bug remains unfixed.
This problem significantly complicates my work and makes it impossible to work efficiently and quickly. -

beuhler? beuhler? any news on updating this? we're at 6+ weeks since this started happening. and more than a week since it was announced the fix was in the prerelease version. any update on when it hits the release version? you're absolutely killing my team, who are all begging us to buy them more RAM instead of waiting for Adobe to get their #### together.

I was having the "history purging" issue as well as the disappearing text when clicked on. I downloaded the pre-release 21.2.0.30 that came out yesterday and I am pleased to say it is working fine for me. The issues I mentioned are gone. Thank you... (for now :-)

La nuova versione Prerelease sembra funzionare correttamente, è ritornato lo storico e i file salvati non sono danneggiati. Per ora bene... vedremo!

Update: this prerelease is causing crashing for me and also won't save most of the time. I'm getting messages that my files are damaged, which they are not.
I REALLY hope Adobe is working to release an ACTUAL FIX for this VERY SOON. This is a disaster.Adobe????

I am using the pre-release, and one thing wrong that's happening is when I apply a shadow effect to text, and then move the text box, the shadow displaces. If I turn the shadow effect off and then back on, it will be correctly positioned, but having to do this is a pain. I have "use global light" turned off, but when I turned it on it made no difference. Anyone else experiencing this issue when trying?

Just a heads' up to anyone coming to this thread for tips: A new update was released after the bugged version, but for me that update causes a crash when I try to save.
