  1. Add PDF tags in Character styles

    In documents, we often have characters that need to be artifacted in the exported PDF, such as:

    Decorative bullets that aren't a list.

    The "end of story" glyph (called an end of proof sign, U+220E)

    Dot leaders between tabs or in TOCs

    And just about any other glyph a designer uses for pure design, not semantic content.

    Add PDF Export Tags to Character Styles and let us designate these items to be artifacted, as well as apply these other inline character-level tags:

    <Formula>
    <Quote>
    <Reference>
    <Code>
    <BibEntry>

  2. Convert paths in placed vector image to native paths

    It is now finally possible to place SVG files as well as PDF files. That is great news for the many, many people who create logos and such things in SVG.

    Everything you place, however, is still placed as completely uneditable images, which in many cases makes it somewhat useless. Especially with simple things like vector logos, it would be immensely useful to be able to convert the embedded vector paths in the placed file to native InDesign paths to adjust things like stroke colour, etc., in the actual InDesign document. Essentially, making it possible to use an SVG/PDF

  4. Improve tables for tagged pdf and accessibility

    Tables needs some improvement for better and accessible PDF output.

    1. There are no options for vertical table headings. I’m not talking about complex tables just simple tables with a custom amount of heading columns from the left or the right. InDesign should tag those cells as <TH> as it does for horizontal table headings or footers.
    2. Those simple tables and its table headers should get a scope attribute which says if the heading is used for a column or a row. The use of the either the scope attribute or id’s is a PDF/UA requirement.

  5. Adopt the latest PDF 2.0 specification

    Flash-based PDF interactive output from InDesign is, to be kind, rather problematic. Flash-based interactivity is problematic with mobile-based PDF readers, including Adobe Reader on the iOS and Android platforms.

    Please do what you can to adopt the PDF 2.0 standard promptly. Like a lot of other users working with interactive features within PDFs, I'm hopeful that by creating conforming documents, rather than hoping for conforming PDF writer and reader applications with widely varying degrees of success, would help InDesign take advantage of intrinsic security and interactive capabilities of the PDF 2.0 specification.

  6. Import PDF Comments - Further Enhancements

    We'd like to include the below options in the recently added feature in InDesign CC 2019, called 'Import PDF Comments':

    (1) We'll be adding few default PDF pages after exporting PDF from InDesign, please confirm how to handle this when importing back to InDesign?

    (2) We'll be receiving special characters like greek, symbols, etc. within PDF annotations, please confirm how to apply specific font to those characters, if they're not available in the current paragraph font, currently they're showing as missing glyphs?

    (3) We'll be sharing the secured PDF to our external users, please confirm how to allow them to…

  7. Batch Single Page PDF Creation

    Please add an option to export ranges of pages as single page PDF files from Indesign like Illustrator(save individual artboards). This would simplfy sending pages to assembly station for imposition and corrections afterward.

    Hi All, this feature is now available in the latest version of InDesign i.e. InDesign 13.1

    Kindly update InDesign to get access to this feature.

    Regards
    Javed

  8. Convert Clipping Path to Frame for multiple objects

    There is a command, Object > Clipping path > Convert Clipping Path to Frame. This will read the clipping path in a placed image and convert it to a frame. The command only works when only one object is selected, If multiple images are selected and every one of them has a clipping path the command is selectable but has no effect. There is no reason for this limitation.

  9. Add "Square" and "Cirlce" to the [Object>>Convert Shape] menu options

    I use Object >> Convert Shape a lot. But with the existing options, if I want to convert to a square/circle I have to first convert to a rectangle/ellipse, then manually enter width and height dimensions to make them equal. Would be nice to skip that step and just have direct option to convert to square/circle.

  10. Extended PDF export features

    To add a custom preset feature where you could export a duplicate PDF with crop marks as well as a clean PDF all in one saving action. There is a lot of times in my line of work where we need both options (one for print and one for archiving) purposes. As of right now I have to export 2 files separately. Having a preset where I could just check the box when exporting would greatly save time and effort each time we go to export.

  11. InCopy - Give more pdf options in InCopy (pdf presets available)

    It would be very helpful if the pdf preset options exist also in InCopy. Here, it is the Incopy user who creates and sends the pdfs for corrections (after his last adaptations). The options in InCopy are very poor…

  12. Fast book export to PDF

    When you have a book with a lot of files inside (more than 100), the export to PDF takes a lot of time. The mouse stucks and it ist not possible to work effectively.
    Every day we are working multiple times with the book funktion.
    A new PDF Export will be very nice and very very helpful.

  13. Ability to change the page of the linked pdf

    I would love to see the ability to change the page number of a linked pdf in the links palette - as it stands you have to relink file, click 'show import options' (which then remains on when you don't want it to) navigate to the pdf then click through what page you want to display. It's slow and clunky. A simple icon next to the link where you could select the desired page would speed my workflow up massively.

  14. Import/Export PDF Comments

    The new "Import PDF comments" feature is nice but ideally, you could retain some of the unresolved comments in the subsequent export. It was also be great to have the ability to reply to the comments. The new feature works great for minor fixes but if the comments are unclear or further communication is needed on the topic it would be great to be able to keep them comment with a reply, etc. Thank you!

    I want to be able to get the comments from PDF into InDesign so that I can easily incorporate/respond on the comments from people.

  16. Changing pdf preset should reset page range to 'all'

    Unfortunately InDesign remembers page range setting even when changing PDF preset from dropdown list in Export dialog. It would be awesome for page range to reset to 'all' when choosing another PDF export preset. I don't always remember check the range and have to do the pdf file twice. Not the major problem, but a little improvement :)

  17. Import PDF comments via INDB File

    It looks like Import PDF comments only works for individual document files. We use compiled book files for our authors at AuthorSupport.com. Will this be a feature that eventual can be imported via the book panel and applied to the compiled documents?

  18. Would like the Links panel to show status, resolution, color information for linked AI and PDF

    It would be helpful to be able to view the following information for linked AI and PDF files in InDesign's links panel:

    • Color space of linked AI and PDF files
    • Status of any links or embedded art in linked AI and PDF files
    • Effective resolution for links or embedded art in linked AI and PDF files

  19. Open PDF

    I want the ability to open an Adobe PDF in Adobe InDesign. The ability to have a pdf file that I can right click and go to Open With -> Adobe InDesign would save so much time at my job in the print industry. It takes forever to take 1,500 pages of a PDF document and individually place them in an InDesign file just so I can use a master page to overlay a bad logo that a client used. If they could just automatically open just as though I did the whole document by hand it would be a…

  20. Page cycle for PDF imports

    1. When I import a PDF into InDesign I'd like to see arrows alongside the circular content grabber to cycle to the next page of the PDF rather than re-importing the same PDF and selecting the correct page in the options dialog box
    2. Saves time, less work to import different pages from the same file already imported
