2025 and software manufacturers have still failed to simplify accessibility features. Now there is legislation in Europe and the companies or their graphic designers are sitting on raw eggs...
There is no defined STANDARD check. If you do several check ups, you get different results. An Acrobat Pro Barrier Check does not comply with the WCAG 2.1 and PDF/UA standard. No, you have to invest money in additional plugins like MadeToTag or use a check-up that only runs on Windows like the PAC. Isn't that normal? How important is the topic of equality etc. really to you?
In the age of AI, it must be possible for content to be recognised by AI, automatically tagged and automatically created as an article. it takes me longer to create and tag all the style sheets and create articles and then edit them again in Acrobat than for anything else. In the end, the cost of my time is probably higher than the cost of a fine. But the software manufacturers should be penalised... Sorry for my emotions, but I've been waiting for this for more than 10 years now... It can't be that you can't tag tables without detours. maybe you integrate the functions of madetotag and the PAC... if nothing new comes along... normally I'm not so aggressive in my demands, but the fact that legislation comes before software development... is really new territory...addendum... also your investments in adobe express... are not accessible pdfs... they also fail the test...

Hello, Adobe? Are you listening to us? We need vast improvements to the InDesign (and Acrobat) accessibility workflow to keep up with required standards in Europe and elsewhere. Additional tags are just the tip of the iceberg – for example, we need major improvements to tables too, including vertical headers.
Edit: you can add buttons – i.e., navigation buttons on parent pages – to that list. They throw up form field errors in Acrobat and have to be manually tagged as links, which is a nightmare in a 300-page document with multiple navigation buttons.

As instead of adding a few more tags to the list it would be better to allow the user to write in a individual-tag name. For ePub-Tags it is possible. Why not for PDF-Tags?

I would think just adding all the tags available from Acrobat into the design software would create a huge win for workflow. Having to go back into the PDF in Acrobat and adjust those tags is a pain point.. especially now if you need to make an edit and re-export the PDF. Please fix this Adobe! :)

@Adobe: any update to this request?

The number of Federal and State Government employees in the U.S. alone that are required to make all documents 508-compliant should be enough to make it a priority to fix accessibility issues in your products. Please accommodate us, just as we have to accommodate our readers.

I work in health care and we are required to make our documents 508-compliant and accessible. This would save a lot of time when designing a document.

Ditto what Bevi said. The tags available, particularly when mapping styles to tags, is not sufficient to produce PDF/UA deliverables.

We need to set the block-level entities of the PDF/UA-1 tag set in InDesign. Right now we have a skimpy choice of headings, <P>, and Artifact. We need these other available in the Export Tagging style definition:
Block-Level for Paragraph Styles:
<BlockQuote>
<Caption>
<Note>Inline Character Level for Character Styles:
<Artifact>
<BibEntry>
<Code>
<Formula>
<Quote>
<Reference>
<Span> (yes, folks, we sometimes need this *&^%$ tag)And Container/Grouping tags (document-level tags)
<Part>
<Art> done now through Articles panel, but need option to designate it manually
