1. Insert special character — Unicode compliance

   Unicode is required to meet accessibility standards and several forms of publishing technologies.

   The keyboard shortcuts and right-click/opt-click Insert Special Characters shortcuts need to be updated to insert the Unicode versions of these glyphs.

2. Blending mode shortcut

   Its been so many years since blending mode exist… and InDesign still not support shortcut for them, when PS & AI all have many ways to customise them already… In InDesign, there's just no way to even add a shortcut for them. the only fast way to sort of fast skimming them is by hovering mouse on the blend mode name, but this is not very precise and not very easy to control, not to mention it creates a lot of history step to undo (which is another bug: if you scroll all the way up and selected luminosity, keep scrolling up its still luminosity, but the steps cound each scroll as a new edit: Set Transparency Parameters, and if you want to undo, you have to cmd Z a lot of times to really see the last blend mode being applied)

   anyway, this all comes to the place that blend mode needs a big fix in 2019

   and when it comes to blending mode, being able to quickly try different set is so crucial in today's workflow

3. Remove tips, Add an option to turn on/off tutorial mode

   Remove tips, Add an option to turn on/off tutorial mode.

   InDesign and other adobe apps constantly tell me things that I know about. This is helpful for new users, but annoying for professionals. InDesign is the industry standard and should cater to professionals while having a beginner or tutorial mode for those who are new to it.

   It is unacceptable to open a window and show it to me while im working. Multiple times i've pressed ctrl z which brings up a window that says DID YOU KNOW ABOUT DOCUMENT HISTORY. Its not helpful for me personally.

4. Accessibility feature requests

   First, thank you for your recent new/improved features, including endnotes, improved word wrap, and better object tags in exported pdfs.

   As a designer, the following requests are not just desirable, they are necessary in order to make my documents fully meet government 508 requirements:

   • Please make word wrap work no matter where on the page a text or graphic frame is anchored. Currently, word wrap only works if the item is positioned after the anchor. *Please allow "space before" to work on the first line in a text frame. *Please change items on master pages so they are active NOT ARTIFACTED! Many publications have standard, readable, items on master pages (such as Newsletter banners with publication dates, etc.) *Please allow character styles to be used in TOC *Please allow the creation of bookmarks separate from TOC in exported pdf. Sometimes bookmarks are wanted, but not a TOC.

5. Add conditions to Data Merge

   There should be conditions in data merge to include or exclude text based on the data in a record. For example.e consider a set of business cards. Some users might have a Twitter handle or mobile number, some might not. Currently there is no way to omit empty fields and any text that might fo with it, line an "M" and tab to prefix a mobile number and the line break after it. There should be a way to make that text conditional on whether the field is empty or what is in it.

   e.g. IF @mobile<>"",M^t@mobile^p,,)

   If the mobile number is not blank ad M, tab, the mobile number, then a return. If it is blank add nothing.

   e.g. IF @*** ="F",Mrs.,IF @***="M",Mr.,

   If the *** of the record is F insert “Mrs.”. If *** is M insert, "Mr.". If it is neither of those insert nothing.

   This makes cleaning up long merged documents much easier.

6. Allow recovery of work after clicking Do Not Save (by accident)

   I have just lost hours (even days) of work. Please find some way to recover a document after clicking Do Not Save accidentally. This is soul-destroying, sleep-losing behaviour of an application. Microsoft have managed version history with Word and other office applications. It's high time Adobe did the same with InDesign. Right now, anyone who has been in the same boat will recognise the sick feeling.

7. New “Hide Spread/Show Spread” feature: automatic page number adjustment

   I was excited to discover the new 'Hide Spread/Show Spread' feature in InDesign. Page numbers on visible spreads don’t adjust automatically when other spreads are hidden in the document. Thus the feature becomes useless for any document that uses page numbers – at least within my workflow.

8. Ability to undo after save-as

   Because indesign can't save individual pages as files a workaround is to delete pages and save-as, however, this inexplicable clears the undo history. Please fix this bug, and add the ability to save pages as individual files.

9. Enable copy-paste of text / text frames without breaking cross references

   Today, copying a text frame with cross references breaks them - including copying text with cross references. This is very problematic and very difficult to discover during editing - and the only solution is to create the cross reference manully again. Very cumbersome.

10. Create a checkbox to block and unblock text edition.

    I work with book layouts and sometimes will accidentally type in a letter into the already written text while formatting it. Most times I noticed and undo it, but here and then a mistake may go unnoticed and risk having that typo printed.
    It would be interesting to rely on a feature that allows me to easily disable and enable writting.
    For instance, when the box is marked, I can still edit size, color, all that, but can no longer add or delete any text.
    When it's unmarked, it works as usual.
    Another option would be a "popup" that shows more clearly than the "history" section when I have typed in a new text.

11. Adjustable row- and column lines

    I'm setting this student book and the designer made nice tables.
    The tables have no touching intersection where row line meets column line.
    It's approved by the client who loves these tables.
    The problem is that the designer has drawn the lines by hand. As a typesetter you curse at it and find a solution for your 200+ tables, wich I did with a mix of paragraph borders and underlining/paragraphlines but I'm gonna cry pure salt if I need to make changes to this. With some clients you never know ;) I will attach a screenshot from a simple example.

    It would be awesome if Indesign would let us tinker with the corners of the cells and include it in the cell style much like we do with rectangles/objectstyles.... Would this be possible?

12. mobile application

    I have been looking at switching to a mobile first workflow for a while now and technology is starting to catch up, which I am super excited about! One thing that seems to be missing is a replacement for InDesign so that I don't have to rely on my Macbook for creating the kinds of documents that you can create in InDesign. It would need to be modernized and have an improved workflow that would be enhanced by the nature of mobile computing devices. I would love to see Adobe get something like this out there soon!

13. Password protect an ebook

    I was disappointed after I spent many hours creating an online ebook tutorial to sell to our customers when I discovered there is no way to password protect an ebook. Please consider adding this feature.

14. Use Mobile Device to Show Palettes

    I posted this in the wrong place (XD). Sorry if I seem to be putting this on blast.
    I've been hoping for this for a long time, and I hope others agree.

    A feature that would increase my workflow in a major way is this:

    Is there a way you could create the ability to use a mobile device to display actionable palettes?

    I use a two display setup on my desktop. When I travel I have to use my laptop which means I can't have very many palettes available without using up my project workspace on screen.

    What if I could connect my mobile device via usb or bluetooth and have actionable palettes displayed there. I could have several palettes onscreen on a tablet, or on a phone, then I could just swipe left or right to the palette I wanted. I could then select the layer, color swatch, or whatever, and have that action occur on the app on my laptop.

    That way I can maximize my work-space on the laptop screen.

    I really hope others agree and this gets upvoted to implementation, it would be awesome.

    By default, B has paragraph margins set. But there are some cases where it doesn't need paragraph breaks.
    For example, when there is A paragraph style in front of it, because A itself has paragraph spacing, the two together will be spaced very far apart.
    The way I'm dealing with it now: create a new ‘B-none’ with no paragraph leading.　But it's a lot of work and trouble.

    If you can add the option to set when B meets a certain style in front of the paragraph before the distance can be agreed upon, such as 0 or other good.

17. Adopt the latest PDF 2.0 specification

    Flash-based PDF interactive output from InDesign is, to be kind, rather problematic. Flash-based interactivity is problematic with mobile-based PDF readers, including Adobe Reader on the iOS and Android platforms.

    Please do what you can to adopt the PDF 2.0 standard promptly. Like a lot of other users working with interactive features within PDFs, I'm hopeful that by creating conforming documents, rather than hoping for conforming PDF writer and reader applications with widely varying degrees of success, would help InDesign take advantage of intrinsic security and interactive capabilities of the PDF 2.0 specification.

18. ability to package without first saving

    When creating mechanicals I often need to break a large InDesign file up into multiples- this is extremely cumbersome due to a multitude of poor design decisions:

    • Save-as kills file history
    • No option to save pages as individual files
    • and, no ability to use packaging to save into individual folders.

    Please fix all of these

19. Indesign for IPad Pro M1

    Indesign for IPad Pro M1. I’m from the first generation of Quark Express to now Indesign always working on a Desktop.
    Having to move countries, I have embraced the mobile world and invested in an Ipad and the ‘Cloud’ ! It’s been amazing so far especially with the creative cloud but….no Indesign!!! What do I do? All my projects are built on it and now I can’t even open them ! What is the solution?

20. Add ability to edit all InDesign form fields in a table for faster creation and edits

    I can create beautiful forms using InDesign. For example, I create intake documents and questionnaires for law firms. Some of these forms can become dozens of pages long with hundreds of fields. Consider the vast array of information required for an estate plan. For some of these forms, the number of fields becomes literally too many to manage on a one-at-a-time basis.

    Imagine if there was an option to edit a table of all the form fields in a document once created. This process could potentially become super-streamlined.

    One would still be required to draw in the fields, but once in place, converted to input fields and reasonably named (there exist decently speedy ways to do this part), the arduous task of managing all the specific settings of each field could be done very quickly with toggling settings on and off, copy-pasting name prefixes and suffixes, numbering tab orders, etc. The need to select a field, mouse over to the settings, set the settings, mouse over to the next field, select it, etc. is reduced to using the tab and arrow keys and the rest of the keyboard to edit an entire spreadsheet of form data; so smooth and focused.

    Apart from setting up the form in the first place, editing now also becomes a breeze. As the forms get used in the real world, inevitably there are changes to be made based on user feedback. Rather than needing to hunt down all the fields that require edits, I could simply open the table and efficiently click-click-click through the changes.

    This would massively simplify the creation and editing process, making InDesign the first choice as the form-building standard.

    Considering the current situation with the Covid-19 Pandemic, the ability to fill in forms from home on mobile devices, but offline (can't guarantee everyone's internet connection is good) is much more crucial to businesses. Data collection can't always be managed with a database, especially if we want quick turnarounds without high-cost programmers.

    Please consider this feature ASAP! Thank you!
