Align top line of text frame to baseline grid
Hi InDesign Team—
The very handy Only Align First Line to Grid feature is essential for building out multiple styles in books and editorial work. However, book designers are in desperate need of a similar feature for text frames, where only the first line in the text frame aligns to the baseline grid. This is essential for building out pages of backmatter, where the text is tighter and does not necessarily align to the baseline grid of the book, but the distance between the head margin and the first baseline should remain the same.
Is such a feature…

horizontal alignment of text inside of text frame
Previously InDesign had HORIZONTAL alignment of text inside the text frame. You could align text at the top, bottom and centre of the text frame. It was one of the best features of InDesign, and it seems to be stripped off. :(
Unless it's still there somewhere, thoroughly hidden away. But why?!1 vote -
Option to set Paragraph border align to text frame edge
In the paragraph border options we can set the top edge, bottom edge and width to text based parameters but it would be useful to be able to set these to align to the text frame edge.
Especially useful when running multiple text frames up against one another in a loosely tabular format but when you don't actually want to be bound by the restrictions of a table.

Align Text exactly to the left or right edge of the frame
It's a very logn known issue in InDesign: Different font sizes have different spacings to left or right edge of the frame. The more the font size grows, the more the space to left or right edge of the text frame grows.
From time to time in the past years my clients have noticed that in drafts for correction. This means a lot of additional manual work for large projects in order to align the font correctly.
It would be great and an enormous relief if in one of the next versions the text frames are either already…10 votes -
Fit text to frame
This is a very important feature for anyone doing desktop publishing and has to fit different variations of text into a predefined text frame size.

Text perfectly aligned with text frame
If the white space on the left/right hand side of a character (image attached) can be ignored, the option of snapping the text frame with objects, guides/grids, could be possible.

Text frame option
Text frame option is in Object Menu right now. If the Text frame option is in text related groups like "Window>types & table" that would be helpful. Since when vertical alignment of text is required, we have to go to object menu and text frame option. Grouping all text related features would be fine

Sensei, use it to align text and shapes
Hi all,
Could Sensei be used to align text and shapes? Seems like a no-brainer to me to let AI fix it.
An example , text in a circle.
Now if you want to align it, you first need to Frame to fit the text. Then you need to select both the textframe and the circle. Then align them horizontally and vertically. ( on some frames you need to nudge the text up a bit to really align then horizontally.
AI would could align both boundingboxes in less then a second.
Please add it :)Rob

Independent column widths in text frame
Please add the option to have independent column-widths in a text frame. This would be really useful for text in nearly any letterhead footer.

Vertical lines between text frame columns
Add an option to add vertical lines between text frame columns (with, of course, options to choose line weight, color, etc).

Footnotes *from different text frames* in *separate text frame*
New footnotes in InDesign 14 does not suite for complex layouts with many text frames and tables on one page.
There should be also a solution for footnotes collected from different text frames / tables on a page.
Collected in a separate text frame.7 votes -
Only align last line to grid
I often use captions (in a separate text frame) aligned at the bottom of the page with the bottom line of the body text and/or an illustration. If the leading of captions and body text is different – which is often the case – It would be useful to be able to align only the last line of the caption to the baseline grid just as it is possible to "only align first line to grid.".

Text Frame Auto-Size in story mode (linked frames)
Dear Indesign Development Team,
Please fix the Auto-Size Text Frame feature in InDesign. When running a story through multiple text frames the Auto-Size feature does not work. The feature should recognize the Frame Break or Column Break symbol as the end of the text in a frame and Auto-Size the frame accordingly. Please! I am tired of hacking my way through features to get the result I want while I feel it should be real simple.

Option to draw a text frame on top of another text frame
Making a new text frame on top of an existing text frame is something I very frequently need to do. However, as it is, for different reasons this simple process is needlessly cumbersome.
I have two suggested solutions (I have a dream that both could be implemented, and make a basic upgrade to my workflow):
Make the type tool able to draw a text frame on top of another text frame. Explanation: When hovering the type tool above an empty area, the tool turns into a text frame tool, as indicated by the cursor. However, when hovering above an…

Fit frame to text WIDTH (not just height)
When working with text in a text frame, we have the FIT FRAME TO CONTENT button that collapses the frame height to the minimum height required to fit the existing text. That's great, use it all the time, but it doesn't collapse the width at all.
It would be nice if there was also a checkbox/option or different button that would also collapse the text frame's WIDTH to the width of the longest line.
This would make it quick and easy to distribute spacing between a bunch of little text boxes aligned in a row. Right…

Unequal columns within a single text frame
It would be great if we could define different column widths within a single text frame, making the automatization of sidebars in longer documents easier. Currently, we need to set up differently sized text boxes on the page and link them.

Object alignment to frame
Can there also be an option in the Align window to enable embedded or grouped objects to align with their parent frame? The feature would be disabled by default for parent or objects that don't have any child (embedded or grouped) objects.
The feature would enable users to align objects that are grouped/embedded to be aligned to the frames boundaries and horizontal/vertical centres, which would not be possible with current alignment options. It could also help users to align objects that have uniquely shaped frame boundaries.

Vertical Justification & Align to Grid clash each other
when i turned on align grid, it should honor the setting i want, but when i apply text frame option-> vertical justification->justified, everything just messed up.
first, after setting text frame to justify, and you turn on align to grid, (mostly this happened when there's not enough text to fill the frame so the leading has to be stretched) it does change the space between lines, (Eg if your justified lines are fairly wide, turn on align to grid will make it narrower) but its not actually align to the grids (no matter if your leading is smaller/greater than the…
