  2. InDesign CC 2019 - font error issues with PDFs

When latest InDesign CC 2019 creates a PDF using certain fonts, an error message appears when opening PDF in Acrobat Pro DC: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'JLUSWO+fontname'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."

Never had this issue with previous InDesign versions. The same PDF opens, views and prints perfectly in Preview. Creating PDFs by other applications with the same font are fine.

    • Error snapshot or video recording of the issue?
    • Is(Are) the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If Yes, Can you please provide the document(s)/asset(s)? Please package the entire document(To package the document, Go to File → Package)
    • Does Trashing preference and cache, please create a backup of Preference and cache before trashing them, help to resolve the issue?

  4. Forced line breaks within text variables introduces an unavoidable letter space

When a forced line break is inserted within text that is used for a variable, a random, unavoidable letter space is introduced into the variable text.
There are obvious workarounds, but a solution to this would be really convenient.
    See attached screenshots for example.

  7. Endnote Font Size Problems

    Version: InDesign 14

Steps: When placing an endnote in a frame "Loaded by Place Curser", the font size used for the end note does not honor the font size determined by the style. This includes when the paragraph style is set in the endnote options, as well as when the paragraph style is applied by selecting the endnote text.

    1. Create endnote style, and set it in endnote options
    2. Set endnote text frame to "loaded by place curser" in endnote options
    3. Add an endnote to the text, and place endnote text frame
    4. The Endnote text added to this frame does not…

    Thanks for reporting the issue.
How are you adding the Endnote text to the frame? Are you copying text and pasting it? If so, have you tried using ‘Paste without formatting’?
Please provide the information that is sought by Payal.

  8. [ID-4213978]unable to change font, size, style in Script UI, alignment problem with Image on button

Unable to perform basic features such as changing of text Font, Styles, Sizes in CC's scriptUI.
Alslo image in button way OFF alignment.

This result in uglier customized UIs than it's older versions.
As the world population is getting older, the ability to have bigger font size and style is really needed.

  9. InDesign 2025 / v20.0: »background task« tries to activate font all the time

Working with the font Minion Pro InDesign 2025 wants to activate the font in the background (shown in the background tasks panel) although it IS activated.

Closing the document does not bother InDesign. It still wants to activate the font (see screenshot 2).

Quit & Restart helps, but it should work correctly without it.

  10. Font KNU (karen) doesn't display correctly in InDesign files.

When working on files that are written in Karen language, suing KNU font, this font is not displaying corrently.

The same font displays fine in PowerPoint, Word, PDF software, but not in InDesign.

Also, the accessibility information doesn't accept text in Karen.

  11. Do not use Osaka font for PDF page information

When exporting a PDF with the Japanese version of InDesign for Mac, the Osaka font is used for the characters in the page information. If there are voiced or semi-voiced sound marks of Japanese characters in the file name, an error will be displayed and the characters will be garbled because Osaka does not support those characters.

    1. Name the indd file "だじづでど.indd".
    2. Export the PDF.
    3. An error is displayed and the file name of the page information is garbled.

Osaka is no longer a very old font on the Mac. Don't use Osaka now.

Use a font that supports semi-voiced…

  12. Font disappears when size of text is changed

When working in a text box and changing the size of the font, the text disappears altogether. If I change the font to a different one, the text reappears, then change font back to the one I used originally and text disappears again. (For example: changed font from default myriad pro to Ultra--text still showing; changed font size--text disappears; change font to Roboto (or anything else)--text reappears.)
No matter position of text box, size of box, size of font, changing to overprint view, nothing makes the text reappear except changing the font to something else. Font/text is…

  14. InDesign should apply variating substitutions from rclt

Variable fonts may contain location-dependent substitutions, but the rvrn feature runs too early for many real-world substitutions. The solution in font-making land has been to use the rclt or rlig features instead, but at least the former is not supported by InDesign. This is a major headache for e.g. Arabic.

  15. Muli Regular font not supported

Muli Regular (open source font) does not show in InDD. The font has been installed and re-installed but program does not register that particular font. Customer Support states that Muli is not supported by Adobe, but another co-designer is able to access all fonts (on a Mac), whereas I cannot on Windows.

  16. Font names display inconsistently

This is a strange one: we use this font https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/lus (you have to put a 't' on the end of that url, Uservoice thinks it's rude, apparently) it's Regular and Display weights. On two computers this shows up as (syntax here is [Font Family] / [Font Style]) Lus(t) / Regular and Lus(t) Display / Regular, respectively. On three others they show up as Lus(t) / Regular and Lus(t) / Display and there seems to be no way to align them.

I've attached a screenshot of how the taskbar shows font on the machines that…

  17. Misplaced dots in Nastaleeq Font rendering

I'm using Adobe Indesign 2020 for an Urdu book. Most text is in Urdu and my font of choice is Mehr Nastaleeq. The text looks fine in MS Word using the font (see attached image) but In Design is not rendering certain words correctly (see attached image).

  19. Fonts defined in existing Paragraph / Character Styles Missing after Creative Cloud font type change

    VERSION: InDesign 2022 V 17.0.1

We activated the Museo Sans Rounded font via Creative Cloud and have used it in our documents since 2015. Until recently, the font activated by CC had a font type of OpenType Type 1. This font is still available on CC, but its font type appears to have changed to OpenType True Type.

Documents that used the OpenType Type 1 font in a Paragraph or Character style now show this font as missing. The missing font name now displays as Museo Sans Rounded (OTF) in Find / Replace fonts and Paragraph and Character Styles…

  20. ID 2021 16.1 - Text variable shows wrong content randomly

When I use filename as text variable on the master template, the variable's output shows an incorrect value. On some pages (even Master) there are wrong letters in the filenames output, on other pages the filename ist correctly. It happens randomly in the same document. I've seen it in several documents.
