Make GREP dot (Any Character) match Footnote Reference marker.
Make the GREP dot (Any Character) match ~F (Footnote Reference marker).
There is no reason that a query like .+ would stop when reaching a footnote marker. This should select the entire paragraph. This behaviour have been in InDesign forever and should be changed.

The ability to unlink footnote/endnotes from references, thus turning the footnote/endnotes into static notes.
As a designer who typesets thousands of pages of academic research annually, the ability to convert footnotes to endnotes and vice versa is a helpful addition (thanks InDesign team), but more features are needed:
The ability to unlink footnote/endnotes from references, thus turning the footnote/endnotes into static notes.
Currently this process is accomplished only via the benevolence and magic of Peter Kahrel's script, available here: http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/end_to_static_CC2018.jsx
The reason being, I can no longer use the InDesign XML tagging feature while the footnote/endnotes remain linked—for some reason, XML tagging of footnote/endnote text is not supported!

Improving footnote dialog
My proposal is to enable the ID program has more than one group of footnotes, or precisely two groups, with unique numbering each. The first which is being put under the text or at the end of a chapter, the ordinary ones. This as all know for referring or explaining the text.
The second is to be on the outer side margin of a page and out of the text block limits, to mension the diffirences of original manuscripts of the old and complex books, encyclopedias linked captions, or special explaining or commencing, I mean for more specialized use.8 votes -
The footnote in journal layout
Please add the ability to make the text of the footnote in a separate frame, that would be able to use footnotes in a complex, journal layout. Often there are situations when some text frames, each one has footnotes and the text of these footnotes were at the bottom of the page, separately, and the numbering in turn.

Numbered paragraphs don't increment in footnotes
Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
14.0.1.209
Mac OS 10.13.6Steps to reproduce the issues
1. Apply automatic numbering to a paragraph style
2. Apply that style to footnotesExpected result
Each footnote will be properly numbered, starting at 1.Actual result
All footnotes are numbered 1.In the attached screenshot you can see the third footnote. The indicator is the correct number but the footnote is numbered 1, even though it is the third footnote. Footnote 2 is also numbered 1.

Tab in footnote prefix for aligned decimals
I have a document with over 100 footnotes. I need to align the decimals of every footnote. To do this, I expected to be able to set up in the footnote style an "align to decimal" tab, and then a "justify left" tab for the footnote content, and then a TAB prefix in the "Document Footnote Options." However, there seems to be no way to place a tab as a Footnote text prefix. Entering ^t does nothing, and it gets cleared as soon as I close the options window. Other text or even special characters like ^r for…

Multiple footnote groups/storys on one story.
It would be very useful if it is possible to have 2 [or more] footnote groups on 1 story.
For example, I have a main text, then there are 2 commentary texts, that both are linked with numbers [like footnotes] to the main text; & they are separately numbered & in separate frames.
Would be amazing!!!

Allow for setting or synchronizing book-wide footnote/endnote options
Right now footnote/endnote options are set on the document level. There should be an option so that the options can either be set on the book level or can be part of the style source sychronization set.
As it is, if I don't create a template that already has my preferred footnote/endnote settings set, I have to individually make those settings for each chapter in a book.

Display of footnote in epub
Footnotes always appear in Indesign for design purpose, but when we export it to .epub, there should be an option to hide the footnote and it should appear only when the reference number is clicked.

ENHANCED CROSS-REFERENCES - FOOTNOTES
I was working on a document where the client had references in footnotes to other references: e.g. "See footnote 6". It would be great to have that be an auto updating cross-reference. (like paragraph numbers or page numbers work now)
You can already choose the "footnote" paragraph style, but the reference footnote number cannot be included in the script. Please fix that

Allow inserting symbolic footnotes (e.g., asterisk *) without affecting numbered footnotes
In many types of publishing—especially academic, religious, and literary works—there is often a need to insert symbolic footnotes, such as a single asterisk (), double asterisks (*), dagger (†), or other custom characters, without affecting the numbering sequence of standard footnotes in the document.
Currently, InDesign only supports one unified footnote style per document, which means that using a symbol instead of a number affects all footnotes globally. This makes it impossible to add a single symbolic note while keeping the rest of the footnotes numbered.
Feature Request: Please consider allowing users to insert…

Footnotes: ability to cite multiple references to a footnote, with appropriate tagging for accessibility
Each new instance of a footnote added in InDesign gets a sequential number – but authors and copywriters expect to be able to insert multiple references to the same numbered footnote. For example, a bank might want to put a single asterisk against multiple references to ‘interest rate’, with one corresponding footnote at the end to explain what 'APR', or 'EAR' means. So I’d like a new feature to be added that would, at the point of inserting a footnote, give the option to cite an existing one that’s already in the document. In an exported accessible PDF, there…

Footnote references in header rows of tables should not be repeated
It is desirable that text in table headers is repeated in the second and subsequent text frames.
But it is not good that footnote references are also repeated in headers. This is because the footnote for the corresponding references is to be found on the page where the reference is first mentioned, but not on the following pages of the table, which breaks across pages.6 votes -

Real table footnotes (different from CC2019)
Since CC2019 the user is able to add footnotes inside a table. Such notes are added at the bottom, of the textbox. This behavior does not fit to many needs of designer how need real table footnotes.
So what is the difference?
Real table footnotes stick to the content of the table.
In this case the note gives some additional information to the table specific content.
Therefore each table should have an own mechanism of numbering that does not mix up with the document footnotes numbering. Additionally the position of table footnotes is most…47 votes
