  1. link objects, like link layers in photoshop

in photoshop, we can "link" the layers to select and edit linked layers at the same time while maintaining the order of the layers.
When creating images such as attachments, I can't group them(paperclip) because I'm afraid the order will change. link feature such as photoshop(link layers) will be very useful in this situation..

  2. ability to choose layers to print in the print dialogue

It would be nice to have the ability to activate/deactivate layers in the print / export dialogue box, especially when printing book-files which contains a lot of documents with language layers. Now I'll have to open all documents one-by-one to switch language before I can print /export the complete book file for that language.

  3. Snap to frame edges/layers

In Photoshop, there are very robust options for snapping to guides, grids, layers, document bounds, etc. each of which can be turned on and off individually.

In InDesign, snapping is much more limited and it is only possible to snap to guides. This means that whenever snapping is desired, guides must be created, which is an extra step that could be streamlined by expanding snapping options to be more like Photoshop.

  4. Allow Linking of Conditional Text and Object Layers

Why not allow linking of conditional text conditions to an objects layers or layer comps. This could be done through the object layer options dialog, where you could have the ability to connect existing conditions to an object, by having a tick box to enable the functionality for that specific object. You could then when it is ticked link the conditions to specific object layers or comps in the object layers dialog box.

I appreciate the name conditional text clearly implies it's text, but it would save time in some cases to have image layers hide and show automatically when…

  5. Direct Editing of Photoshop Layers in InDesign

    Description:
Currently, users must switch back to Photoshop to edit layer details, masks, or effects before re-importing images into InDesign. This process can be time-consuming and interrupts the creative flow. It would be highly efficient to enable direct editing of Photoshop layers—such as brush adjustments, opacity, blend modes, and layer masks—within InDesign itself, without needing to reopen Photoshop.

    Benefits for Users:

Streamlines the workflow by reducing the need to switch between Photoshop and InDesign
Speeds up the design process, as minor adjustments could be made directly in InDesign
Allows more flexibility in applying last-minute edits and achieving the desired…

  6. Different layers for each page in a document

Each page in a document can have different layers. When producing artwork for personalised print items (like mailers) it would be good for each version (page) to have it's own variable layers to avoid having lots of layers that could lead to data being omitted if layer turned off

  7. Layers Panel: Content auto-contract or stay expanded choice

I can't see that this is an option at present, but I get really fed up with constantly having to re-expand content layers and groups in the Layers Panel. They seem to auto-contract if I move from one document to another and back again. Is it not possible to have this feature as an option so that the user can select whether a documents layers remain expanded or not?

  9. Maintain the Layers Panel scroll position when switching between documents.

Maintain the Layers Panel scroll position when switching between documents.
At the moment when you switch between documents the scroll position of the Layers Panel 'resets' to showing the top most item in the layers list.
On documents with many layers (where the scroll bar is present) every time you switch documents you have to scroll down to find the active layer. Very unproductive.

  11. Group objects across different layers

Group objects across different layers and prevent grouping from bringing the group to one layer. The group can exist on any level where there is a grouped object. Thus the group can better intersect with intermediate levels to the objects that compose it.

  12. Option to turn off auto centre when selecting layers

When selecting objects in my layers panel, my screen jumps to that object. This is not what I want. No way. Never.

Sometimes i go through my layers and select them to see what they are especially if they aren't named. But i don't want to navigate to them automatically! If i have zoomed in and am looking at a particular object, there is no way i want some automatic feature to take me away to a different part of the document - just so i have to zoom out and go back to where i was focusing on.

  13. Adding new layers to a PSD shouldn’t reset all instances

I really hate it when I’m working with a layered PSD file in InDesign where I have different layers of the image turned on and off throughout a layout and then if I edit the PSD and add any new layers, when I come back to InDesign, instead of just updating the layers that were turned on, it resets every instance of that PSD and I have to manually go and turn all of the specific layers back on/off for each instance. Why can’t it be smart enough to keep the layers on that were on and just update…

  15. Paste items on multiple layers at once

It would really speed up my workflow if I had the option of selecting a number of layers and be able to ‘Past in place’ on all of them at the same time. I often have to change country ratings (esp. PEGI) on my projects and it would be great if I could select 7-8 layers at a time and switch them out together. Clients also require third-party logos and legal lines to be added and it would really speed up my routines.

  16. Layer nesting facility

The ability to nest layers within layers would be lovely. See image attached - it's a point of sale artwork example which has Adidas shoes and Nike shoes on separate layers with sub-layers for the prices and images - it has a common background on a separate layer. I'd like to be able to nest the 'image' and 'price' folders within each brand folder - this would really help negotiate files can contain up to 20 different brand folders .

    Thanks in advance.

  17. Improve 'Hide New Layers When Updating or Relinking' tick-box

Hide New Layers When Updating or Relinking (unticked) can be very annoying when I actually need the new layers to be shown when updating and relinking, but InDesign warns with a Confirmation Dialog box everytime for every page that is being relinked - it is so annoying, please can you change this tick-box in Preferences to Ask/Never/Always or something like that please, and have this option in the Dialog box so that the relinking and updating process is smoother/quicker/quieter.

    Thank you :)

  18. Confusing wording of options in layers palett

There are two Options in the submenu of the layers palett, that make no sense. It might be a translation-issue with the german version. When the options are "on" they are actually "off". That's confusing...

  19. Make it possible to create GROUPS in the Pages palette and the Layers palette.

Make it possible to create GROUPS in the Pages palette and the Layers palette. Just like I can do in the Swatches palette or Styles palette.
When there are many pages (or layers) in a document, grouping them will be very handy.

  20. InDesign Dimmable Layers

I think it would be great if we could have an option to dim a layer similar to Illustrator. I think it would be a benefit when aligning elements above a background layer.
