1. Opening a document now causes lag for about 30 seconds, where I have no control

   1. Version of Adobe InDesign: 17.1
   2. Steps to reproduce the issues: a. Open document from the Mac Finder. (This lag happens whether I start with InDesign open or closed. b. I have zero control of anything while a progress indicator spins for about 30 seconds. c. A font error dialog pops up, and then I can finally control InDesign, starting by dismissing that dialog. Expected result: I expect instant control of InDesign, since my computer isn't that old and it's a pro model. Actual result: Slowness, lag - way too much, considering most of my documents are 8 pages long with maybe 30 or so links to placed graphics... The test file I'm attaching has a bunch of master pages and a bunch of embedded graphics, but the thing is, it used to be that there was no lag with this document... Now there's lag. That's an issue. 2. Library assets missing in InDesign 2024 v19.3 but visible in Creative Cloud

   Many assets that i've made and added into my libraries that we use for production are now missing for me in InDesign, v19.3, although they are still present in the Creative Cloud app, and my coworker using the same library but on InDesign v19.1 does not have this issue so far.

   Both of us are on the latest version of MacOs, v14.4.

3. Cannot Pan/Scroll with WACOM pen in Open/Save/Place file dialogue windows.

   Cannot Pan/Scroll with Wacom pen in Open/Save/Place type file dialogue windows in mmany if not all of Adobe apps (where every other non-Adobe app I know of does, Apple and other 3rd parties), obviously this pertains to when you've mapped a Wacom pen button to pan/scroll to use in that manner (Wacom settings screen attached).

   What should happen is being able to interact similar to touch omnidirectional swiping which includes vertical mouse-like scrolling when pressing the button and making contact with the pen, as would be expected and Wacom designed it to do.

   What instead happens: Adobe apps interpret this as a Quick Look request on click of whatever file is targeted by cursor at the time. This defers from every system norm elsewhere on macOS, 1st and 3rd party. Never witnessed this in a non-Adobe app. Adobe apps are essentially ignoring the pan/scroll input from Wacom pens, but strangely only in those types of windows, which are standard and common macOS type views otherwise and not unique to Adobe, so the behavior expected is pretty well established.

   Note: This is not unique to InDesign. This is an Adobe Suite - wide issue. Photoshop, Illustrator reflect same unexpected behavior, and I would assume others if it's a shared thing across the CC suite of apps. That said, in all other app interactivity other than in these window types, the pan/scroll input is respected and behavior is consistent with expectation.

   ...This issue has plagued Adobe products for a long time and is not newly occurring.

4. Reflowable EPUB3: "Page Navigation" export option adds a space inside hyphenated words at page breaks

   1. Version of InDesign: 19.4

   2. steps to reproduce

      • create a new InDesign file
      • add a text frame to the blank page
      • add enough text so some words are hyphenated at the page breaks for the next pages
      • export to epub3
      • enable "Page Navigation" on EPUB export

   3. Expected result
      Page navigation markers are added without interrupting the hyphenated words at the page breaks.

   4. Actual result

      When using the "Page Navigation" export option for reflowable EPUB exports, InDesign adds a <span> and </span> tag pair with a blank space character in the HTML export instead of simply dropping the soft hyphen that was present in the print layout.

      Result in the EPUBs XHTML:

      <p class="bodytext">Idel illandia suntusdae quoditint debitatissit quam quamus magnimus es quiaeper elor eper<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>nat quo con re nimus?</p>

      Another example using English text (from the "Georgia" file in the EPUB3 samples project):

      In my file "georgia", the words "consists" and "headward" are both hyphenated by InDesign as "con-sists" and "head-ward" at the page breaks, but exported to EPUB as

      con<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>sists

      and

      head<span id="page3" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="3" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>ward</span>

      respectively, thus displaying as "con sists" and "head ward".

      I am confident that this is not an issue of readers / apps display the EPUB erroneously, as I tested my example files on a PC with Kindle Previewer 3.81, Adobe Digital Editions 4.5, Thorium 2.2.0, as well as on a Kindle Paperwhite via Send to Kindle, a tolino (popular brand of readers in Germany, both with Adobe RMSDK rendering engine and new Readium-based rendering engine), an iPad with Apple Books and a Pocketbook InkPad Color.

      The W3C recommendation for page break markers is not a pair of opening <span> and closing </span> tags, but a self-closing <span/> tag, e.g.

      <span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"/>

      which would look like this for the above examples:

      <p class="bodytext">Idel illandia suntusdae quoditint debitatissit quam quamus magnimus es quiaeper elor eper<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"/>nat quo con re nimus?</p>

      Personally, I'd think using a pair of <span> / </span> tags WITHOUT an additional space should work out, too, if you absolutely must use a tag pair for whatever reason.

      However, I would strongly urge you to change the implementation to conform to the W3C recommendation.

      Either way, the current behaviour creates errors on EPUB export which are not present in the indd source file - so please change this as soon as possible.

      How am I supposed to supply a sample file if I am neither allowed to upload indd, idml, epub or zip files‽

5. Password protect bug

   The new password protect feature worked fine on the 25th April.
   However I've noticed a bug on a document I was testing today 27 April.

   The same document was showing a 'access denied' page though would allow me to see page past page 1.
   Page 1 would not load.
   The same thing happened on a newly uploaded version of that document.
   The document has 16 pages with animation to the first page.
   This error happened across safari and chrome browsers.
   The document works fine when re-uploaded without password protection.

6. InDesign Kerning Bug – Incorrect Character Spacing Display

   I have a bug to report in InDesign (possibly Illustrator). I have already addressed this issue in the community forum, where it has been confirmed by others, so it is not just affecting me:

   There are display errors when adjusting kerning, making precise work impossible. (Kerning is intended for fine-tuning.) When setting the kerning between two characters, the spacing of other characters also visually changes. Please refer to the video for details.

   This issue occurs with both optical and metric kerning, at all zoom levels, on Windows 11 and Windows 10. Even setting the display to high quality does not resolve the issue.

7. Overset text

   Hi team, I am having issues with overset text. When I drag my text frame outside of the bleed line into the workspace the icon doesn't appear. As soon as I drag it onto my page the icon shows and if I increase the text frame additional text space appears above the word. There is no text wrap on the text frame and is on a completely different layer so arrangement isn't an issue. Can you please help me fix this issue.

8. Outlined text

   I'm using InDesign v 16.1 for a Mac. I just encountered an issue with outlining text. As you can see in the "Display in Preview" png, all of the text is visible and matches what I actually see in InDesign. All of this text is outlined by pressing command + O. When you look at the "Display in Acrobat" png, the yellow outlined text appears to be transparent. Again, all of the text in the png files are outlined. This issue is also visible at our print shop. The workaround I found is just to keep the text live, but there are times where I need the text to be outlined. Any guidance on this issue would be appreciated.

9. InDesign does not handle a nukta with Tamil script

   The Tamil Unicode block does not contain a nukta, for languages written in Tamil script that need a nukta there are two characters in the Grantha block that can (possibly) be used.

11. Stalling

    Within the last couple weeks, Indesign has been acting very glitchy for me. I've never had these problems before, but when I open a document the application seems to stall for a bit. This is happening in all my documents (so it isn't one file that is the issue). Indesign doesn't ever crash, but seems to get hung up within the first couple minutes of use.

12. resize object works rarely

    It's already 2019. I've been reading comments from 2015 about this same issue. I downloaded the most current version of InDesign and unbelievably I still cannot resize an object on my MacbookPro by clicking on the shift button. It works occasionally (for some odd reason). This is totally ridiculous. I read dozens of complaints about this from 2015 and on. Seriously, Adobe? You cannot fix this issue once and for all.

13. Severe performance issues

    Using Version 14.0.3 on a MacBook Pro. Every time I try to switch from one object to another the program gives me a spinning wheel of death for about a minute (sometimes more...sometimes I have to force quit/restart). I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app completely. This happens regardless of the document that I have open, even just a text document with no images, etc. There is no crash, the program just freezes entirely.

14. crash sleep mode

    Hello,

    I'm using InDesign 15.1.2 on a brand new Macbook Pro.

    Several times a day InDesign crashes. It seems to happen most often when:
    - my computer goes into sleep mode and I reawaken it

    but it sometimes happens when:
    - I copy text from a word document or email, and then try and paste it into a text frame within InDesign.

    Sometimes it happens for no reason, when I am using another program.

    I have spent a lot of time on the Adobe community page trying various solutions but nothing seems to have worked. I have 'problem reports' from the crash.

    Can anybody direct me to somebody who I can work with to try and resolve the issue?

    We have released InDesign 2021(v16.0.0.77) with a lot of stability fixes. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version (if you’re not already on it) as it is more robust.

15. InDesign to Acrobat Accessibility Bug

    When performing Acrobat remediation on InDesign publications containing correct export tagging, the Acrobat Reading Order tool shows "P" tags at the end of each line of text (as well as additional "P" tags in the middle of lines). The Acrobat Tags panel shows no paragraph tags -- just broken up lines of text.

    Fortunately, these broken up lines are not reproduced as such by the screen reader. So why does Acrobat identify each line of text with a "P" in the first place?

    This issue needs to be fixed as it creates a dilemma and lot of unnecessary remediation work for those who are unaware that screen readers are able to bypass broken up lines and read the full paragraph.

    I'm currently using InDesign 2021 but this has been happening with earlier versions as well.

    I initially submitted this as an Acrobat bug and was advised in response that it is an InDesign issue.

16. Font disappears when size of text is changed

    When working in a text box and changing the size of the font, the text disappears altogether. If I change the font to a different one, the text reappears, then change font back to the one I used originally and text disappears again. (For example: changed font from default myriad pro to Ultra--text still showing; changed font size--text disappears; change font to Roboto (or anything else)--text reappears.)
    No matter position of text box, size of box, size of font, changing to overprint view, nothing makes the text reappear except changing the font to something else. Font/text is also missing when the file is exported in any format (jpeg, pdf, etc.)
    Has happened multiple times with different fonts (so far Montserrat and Ultra are the most consistent with this issue) over the last few years (read: many versions of indesign and this is still an issue).
    Currently using the most updated version of indesign (17.2.1).

    When working in a text box and changing the size of the font, the text disappears altogether. If I change the font to a different one, the text reappears, then change font back to the one I used originally and text disappears again. (For example: changed font from default myriad pro to Ultra--text still showing; changed font size--text disappears; change font to Roboto (or anything else)--text reappears.)

17. Every possible action on notes freeze or crash InDesign 2024

    I had this issue in a very simple one A4 page document that has a single text area filled with text and some not complicated header elements (including a placed image) in InDesign 2024 (v. 19.5) file.

    I created 4 notes with 1-2 words each.

    Anything I did with notes after that, the app freezes or crashes each time. Is that a known bug?

    We have released InDesign 2025(v20.2.0.036) with many stability fixes. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version (if you’re not already using it) as it is more robust.

    If you are still facing this issue even after updating it, please submit the crash report to us. (Guidelines to submit crash are available at (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html )

    • Reproducible Steps – What were you doing when InDesign froze?

18. Hot Keying the Text Tool has been broken for 2020 versions

    The hot key for the Text tool is broken. I've tried the steps of resetting preferences the issue still persists - ever since the 2020 updates, hot keying to the text tool is broken. The tool is selected for a mini second before going back to the selection tool or other previous tool - there are plenty of mentions on this site with very little feedback on if the issue is going to be fixed - please give the community an update.

19. Color Theme Tool not working after upgrade to InDesign CC 14.0

    Hi, this may not actually be a bug and perhaps more of a settings issue - but after upgrading to 14.0 the Color Theme "eyedropper" tool does not seem to be working. The tool selects/highlights properly, palette displays correctly - but the theme elements do not copy over. Any help appreciated as we create / update fairly complex and text-heavy docs on a daily basis.

20. Publish online video in Safari lags slow load

    Can someone please escalate this to Apple if its a Safari issue?
    Its been mentioned several times now.

    Pages with video published online will lag and slow load in Safari.
