1. UI Contextual Interface

   Contextual Menu

   In the latest update to the application, support for contextual UI interface management has actually got worse.

   I utilise a 'dual screen' like many, may designer. I find it unbelievable that Adobe continue to ignore professional reporting of your bugs and lack of real support for the program.

   Indesign's lack of contextual UI management is poor, inadequate and pretty much makes using dual screen even more difficult than the last release.

   Today, 31/01/2021 (Australia). I find that clicking on the type panel (which I have setup on the right monitor - displays the dropdown for the font size and many, many other components display of the left of the screen!

   Who is responsible for this woeful oversight? Who is actually trialling this software (in real world environments)?

   I'll also tell you, this isn't this first time I have report this inadequate UI.

   Forget some of the irrelevant updates and focus on ensuring the product is fit-for-purpose, because I can tell you - you're not making it easier to use the product, you're making it a lot harder.

   What's the point of having two monitors if you are going to force the UI components to render on the opposite monitor?

2. InDesign Strips Formatting When Pasting Text from Google Docs

   Description:
   When copying formatted text from Google Docs and pasting it directly into Adobe InDesign, all formatting (such as bold, italics, font size, and links) is lost. However, if the same text is first pasted into Microsoft Word or TextEdit, the formatting is preserved and can then be successfully pasted into InDesign. This suggests the issue is specific to InDesign’s handling of clipboard data from Google Docs. As a workaround, I currently have to use an intermediate application like Word, which slows down my workflow.

   Steps to Reproduce:

   • Copy any formatted text from Google Docs (e.g., bold, italic, links).

   • Paste directly into InDesign text frame.

   • Observe that all formatting is lost.

3. CC'15-'17 All hyperlinks missing/removed after round trip with InCopy editors

   I am a designer and build corporate white papers anywhere from 35-100+ pages in length. We use the layout InCopy workflow with one assignment and all stories exported under that. After I import and design/format all content including hyperlinks, I then save for the editors for use in InCopy. They then do their work, and save for me, standard. Upon opening, all the hyperlinks are missing with a "red flag" denoting the ref. is missing . Oddly enough, for the past two documents we made, you could still export to PDF with the links functioning, this despite all the missing URL info in the hyperlinks panel. It seems embedded but not recognized. Sometimes you can right click on a link in the ID layout and it will also "go to destination," but the info is not present in the hyperlinks panel. Because the functionality was there for us, we ignored the hyperlinks panel for 2 major docs. With the latest document, the same thing happened, only this time we lost functionality too, which brought me here looking for answers. Hope this gets fixed, as I had to manually input 100+ links to finalize our document today! A couple variables: Our InCopy users are on PCs, where I am on a Mac. We also use 'Box' for file sync, primary stations are designer in the US and editors in Dublin.

4. InDesign 18.0 (2023): still having issue where certain weights of fonts won't load/work (other weights/styles in the family do work).

   The only way I've been able to solve this is to revert to version 17.1 (had same issue with 17.2).

5. Opening a document now causes lag for about 30 seconds, where I have no control

   1. Version of Adobe InDesign: 17.1
   2. Steps to reproduce the issues: a. Open document from the Mac Finder. (This lag happens whether I start with InDesign open or closed. b. I have zero control of anything while a progress indicator spins for about 30 seconds. c. A font error dialog pops up, and then I can finally control InDesign, starting by dismissing that dialog. Expected result: I expect instant control of InDesign, since my computer isn't that old and it's a pro model. Actual result: Slowness, lag - way too much, considering most of my documents are 8 pages long with maybe 30 or so links to placed graphics... The test file I'm attaching has a bunch of master pages and a bunch of embedded graphics, but the thing is, it used to be that there was no lag with this document... Now there's lag. That's an issue. 6. Text lag/slow when Documents Folder is present (package)

   Since 15.03 there is a Text lag after opening documents that are in a folder that has a Documents folder. This delay has gotten worse in 15.1. If you're working from packaged InDesign folder, try deleting the document fonts folder inside it. Lagging was caused because of a double up in fonts on my computer. This took a month of testing by myelf and IT team to finally figure out!

7. Round corner appearance from InDesign 2018 file is changing, when open it on InDesign 2020 version

   We are moving from InDesign 2018 to InDesign 2020 version.
   Expecting that all previous files created in InDesign 2018 version should open correctly in later version without any design or font changes.
   We found an issue on Corner radius for Rectangular box. Changing the corner radius appearance when file opened in InDesign 2020, though showing same Corner radius settings both InDesign versions (see screenshots).
   Need a fix to open the files correctly in InDesign 2020 version also, without manual changing, as hundreds of files created previously with different corner radius.

9. InDesign CS6 Hangs with customized plug-ins

   Hello,
   Our company develops InDesign plug-ins as our product. Now we have a hanging problem when dealing with one InDesign document. The problem happens on both Windows and macOS.
   According to the log collected on Mac, InDesign CS6 hangs at com.adobe.InDesign.Text. We cannot find a way to fix it so far. This problem stopped us to support our customers.

   Could you please have a check why the hanging happens?

   We made a simple document to reproduce the problem. The plug-ins inside "InDesign-CS6-Windows-Plugins" are used to make InDesign CS6 open the document without crash.
   The detail steps are:
   1. On Windows, place "InDesign-CS6-Windows-Plugins" under <Adobe InDesign CS6>/Plug-Ins/
   2. Launch Adobe InDesign CS6 and open document CS6.indd
   3. Click OK to continue if it prompts for missing plug-ins
   4. Navigate to page 1, which contains a large text frame
   5. Using Type tool to put cursor inside the begining of the frame
   6. Click Ctrl+A to select all contents
   7. Try to set the font size (or set font name) on menu bar.
   8. InDesign hangs.

   The attached zip file contains the plug-ins, indd file and log files.

10. Image not populating in Data Merge

    I have a file in which I merge in a PDF of a page, along with some variable text. I was seeing an ongoing issue where, when turning on Preview, the PDF image wouldn't appear, but there would also be no error.

    After trying a few things, I realized that placing the pdf I wanted (on the pasteboard) while choosing an appropriate "crop to" setting, then turning Preview off and then on solved the problem.

    I often place images with bleed, and the pdf file in question didn't have a bleed box, so I believe it was failing to import because of improper crop settings.

    If that is indeed the problem, I think some warning message would be in order -- merge shouldn't fail because of a setting I used previously while editing a different document.

    Using InDesign 16.1 x64 on a fully patched Win10 machine.

11. InDesign does not handle a nukta with Tamil script

    The Tamil Unicode block does not contain a nukta, for languages written in Tamil script that need a nukta there are two characters in the Grantha block that can (possibly) be used.

    Dotted circles are shown, and left vowels are not always re-ordered.

12. Typographer's Quotes bug?

    I've encountered an issue with Typographer's Quotes not working. I've searched extensively online and tried all the usual suspects (Typographer's Quotes is on in preferences, both Document and without any documents open; reset preferences) but I've been unable to fix them.

    After further investigation, it seems that the issue only occurs using a single typeface (Skolar Latin, installed as OTF versions in Windows 10 Pro itself, rather than via Typekit). When typing double or single quote marks in InDesign with any weight of this typeface, then the straight version is inserted, irrespective of the Typographer's Quotes setting. If I do a search for the relevant double or single quote marks and replace them with the same (as this used to fix the issue on the Mac) it replaces them with the straight version, again, irrespective of the Typographer's Quotes setting. However, if I use any other typeface, the issue doesn't occur - all quotes are inserted with the correct Typographer's version.

    I've also conducted some other investigation and, basically, narrowed it down to being an issue (bug?) with InDesign CC 2018 (version 13.1 x64) on Windows 10 Pro (version 1803, OS build 17134.165; Dell XPS 8930 / i7-8700 / 16GB RAM / GTX-1060 6GB). I've arrived at this conclusion due to the following reasons:

    Typographer's Quotes work fine in Illustrator CC 2018 / Photoshop CC 2018 / Microsoft Word on the same PC - hence not an issue with the OTF files, or anything relating to the font files themselves.

    The issue doesn't occur when opening the same file in the Mac version of InDesign CC 2018 - hence not an issue specifically relating to the document file, InDesign preferences, or and Paragraph / Character Styles, or OTF files (as all are the same as on the PC).

    The issue is reproducible in different InDesign documents on the same PC.

13. 14.03 still will not activate Adobe fonts!

    PLEASE actually fix this issue. NOTHING happens when you click on the cloud to activate. The update did not fix it.

14. Several years old bug is still alive in InDesign CC

    InDesign CC shows obscure behavior for Arabic subtending marks. Some times it kerns these marks towards right as shown in line 1, 3 & 4. Sometimes it adds extra space on both sides of these glyphs as shown in the line five and sometimes it automatically makes the digits size smaller as shown in line 1 & 2. While MS Word 2013 shows the correct shapes for all these marks as required. The Arabic script is written in right to left direction.

    Test font and test document are also attached.

15. V2022 - Museo Sans fonts not working after InDesign update

    I recently upgraded my InDesign on my PC, running Windows 10 Enterprise, from Version 2019 to Version 2022.

    After the update, my Museo Sans from Adobe fonts stopped working in Version 2022. I couldn't convert my InDesign file back to 2019, so I ended up pulling it into a Mac environment and re-saving successfully from V2021 to an IDML file and re-opening it in InDesign V2019 on my PC. The fonts are visible in the newly re-opened V2019 file.

    I've included screen shots of what I see in V2022 (most Museo Sans text missing) and V2019 (all Museo Sans text visible).

    How can I fix this issue in V2022 on my PC?

16. Popup menus appearing off screen, and move shortcut not working to move them back to where they are accessible.

    make popup menus either appear on one of my 3 screens, preferably the screen that indesign program is open on. And if that is too hard, let the alt-space-m shortcut to move menus work. One at the moment is the find replace fonts. it's off screen and no way to bring it back that i can find.

17. Adobe Fonts: Licensed with Creative Cloud but marked as "not allowed, protected" in Preflight, InDesign

    Please help me: I'm using two fonts for a book soon to be published. I have activated the fonts in Creative Cloud. I work in InDesign. Now a Preflight check tells me that my fonts are "Not Allowed: Protected" (that's the only way to translate that message from Swedish). How do I solve this??? (The fonts I'm using are Minion Pro and Myriad Pro). I thought my InDesign recognised licenses from Creative Cloud. Have I misunderstood this completely? Desperate, please give me clue.. 18. TOC Paragraph Styles not Applying Properly

    I'm using InDesign version 19.4. I am trying to generate a TOC for my document. I have ensured that all my paragraph and character styles are appropriately titled and applied throughout my document.

    When I produce my TOC, the entire thing is capitalized, despite the paragraph style having "normal" case set. When I highlight the auto-generated TOC, it is indicating that the correct paragraph style is applied, however, it is not reflecting it.

    If I click around to my different paragraph styles, it alters the font size, color, etc. but everything remains capitalized, despite none of the styles having that setting.

19. overlapping text on paragraph break in INDD

    When formatting text using a parent page element that's been activated (by using Shift + CMD + Click) on a page, and forcing a paragraph break so that the text goes from two lines to three, the first of the now three lines "hides" behind the second line. The current fix to this issue is to make an edit to the first line so it "pays attention" to the change and goes where it's supposed to.

    Font used: Los Feliz OT, Bold, 27
    Justification: Bottom

    Screenshots included of before the edit, during the edit, and fixed, with hidden characters turned on.

20. Cannot see text

    When using the Text tool, text is only visible when typing and disappears afterwards. I only know text is present through highlighting the text, however still the text is not visible (and I can only highlight text when it is off of the page). I checked layers and updated the application. All fonts are updated. I tried to change the font size, colour and checked through the effects.

    Error states: Overset text (1), although I already tried to adjust the size of the box and text as well as create a new text box.

    Edit: I can't see imported material either (images are invisible however detected). I have tried changing Display/GPU performance and updating the software; this did not work.
