update to v24
For as long as I can remember, dating back to the early single-digit versions of Adobe products, it was advised to make separate backups of user settings that were often found in obscure directories on a user's own computer. I dared to trust Adobe this time around, hoping that the update to version 24 of InDesign and its option to delete old versions, would respect the user settings that I so painfully put together. FAIL. Adobe failed to maintain them and deleted them from existence. Adobe should be putting a disclaimer on their update process to prompt users of all…

Text appears heavier over a transparent image
When text is in a layer above an image that has its basic blending mode set to "multiply" the text is rendered with a darker outline. This does not appear in the final PDF, only the preview, but it makes it extremely difficult to judge font sizes and whether text is bold.
To reproduce:
- Create text in a text box.
- Insert a JPEG image on the page.
- Use the Arrange option on the image to "send to back" so that it is in a layer below the text
- Use Effects > Transparency on the image and set its blending…

page range for publishment in 'share for review' is set by last print/export job
When sharing for review, the published document can be limited to a certain page range, because it takes that setting from the last print/export job. The only workaround is to first reset that range in the print/export window. Then publish for review to see all of the pages.
Being able to select what pages to share (or not) would be a nice feature in the 'share for review' interface. This way, I would not have to make versions, separating artwork ready for review, and artwork that is not.
10 votesThe fix is now available in the latest InDesign update, 15.1.1
Please update to the latest version to get the fix.

Mac OS 10.13.4

I emphasize enough how much I dislike the new styling on the text/paragraph style dialogues
It is SOO much harder to select the paragraph (or whatever) style I need now. The key information in that dialogue is the style name, which I know you know because that's what you show when it's selected. But that style name isn't the most visible part of the drop-down. In my case, it's darn hard to see. This is slowing me way down and I'm feeling very grumpy about it.
I was also really irritated when the resize quick keys did a switcheroo here after 20+ years, but I can get over that. This one -though! Apologies for the…1 voteHi,
This new menu you are seeing is only visible from the properties panel.
You can still see the list of paragraph styles from the Paragraph Styles menu (Type→Paragraph styles) in the same way as it used to be in previous years.
Please let us know if you still face the problemThanks,

Linked AI / vector file previews with jagged bezier curves when rotated 90 degrees
Bezier curve of linked AI file previews as jagged/tangent straight lines when rotated 90 degrees. Looks fine at all other angles.
Linked file is saved as AI 2020.

App window resizes after presentation mode
InDesign 2025 (v 20.0) on Mac OS 14.6.1
When opening presentation mode (Shift + W or View > Screen Mode > Presentation …) and going back to default/preview mode the application window resizes.
When having the app window to its full size after presentation mode it changes back to its smaller size that you can toggle by using the green plus icon on the top left (Mac Version). When setting both window states manually to full size and toggling between the two (without effective size change) once it works afterwards the window stays in the same size when escaping…

Object Layer Options Causing Image to Glitch
When Object Layer Options are used (top image over graphic, bottom image under graphic box, for example), the image will glitch and polarize. When moving around the document or toggling between regular view and preview mode etc, the image will sporadically go back to normal or alter its representation.
Normal behaviour is for the image to show as expected.
Running 16.0.2

W switch between normal and bleed mode
Pressing W switch between normal and bleed mode and not between normal and preview mode for this specific document.
And sometimes no shortcut is working for this INDD.
It seems I can't upload an INDD (but no rules for uploaded files, why?) so I put the document and a screenshot with the version of InDesign here for 2 weeks: https://we.tl/t-z2fsKnVm8o

Display glitch when Placing multiple images
Adobe Indesign 2023 and prior.
When several large images are selected in the 'place' dialog box to place one after another, the first image often does not display the green guide arrows for matching existing object sizes. Subsequent images in that set do, but these often display the preview for the image just placed rather than the image currently loaded.

Omitted page ranges are affected by sections
Summary:
When describing a page range that omits the first/final page, if there is a starting section in the range, the output results will remain in the page range within the section.Verification:
Create an 8-page document (Figure 1).
Set the start section on page 5.
Export the PDF (and print as well) and enter “-6” in the page range (Figure 2).Result:
A PDF of pages 5-6 is exported.
When the PDF is exported again, the page range is set to “5-6” (Figure 3).Ideal result:
should not be affected by the presence or absence of sections.

Image not populating in Data Merge
I have a file in which I merge in a PDF of a page, along with some variable text. I was seeing an ongoing issue where, when turning on Preview, the PDF image wouldn't appear, but there would also be no error.
After trying a few things, I realized that placing the pdf I wanted (on the pasteboard) while choosing an appropriate "crop to" setting, then turning Preview off and then on solved the problem.
I often place images with bleed, and the pdf file in question didn't have a bleed box, so I believe it was failing to…

Endnotes are out of sequence in captions and sidebars
I work on books that often have endnotes in captions or sidebars. The captions/sidebars are always set up as separate frames (and sometimes as anchored objects). Any endnotes in separate frames end up at the end of the endnote list, regardless of where they fall in the page order.

main artboard disappears when plugging in or unplug display (GPU Viewing Problem)
I work with switching setups on my macbook, sometimes without an external screen, sometimes i move to my home office and plug in a bigger display.
When indesign is opened and a file is opened, you cant do that without having to save and reopen the document. Because whenever you attach or detach a display - the main artboard / window with pages turns completely grey / invisble and you cant see anything anymore, but you can hover the elements.
Switching to "Overprint Preview" brings back the visibility, switching it off makes the pages invisible again. Same with "…

embeded Illustrator documents in InDesign looses page information, after being used in library
We have following situation:
InDesign library with an embeded Illustrator document. this document has pages (used for different icons). I have placed page 3 of the Illustrator file in as InDesign document. I place the element in an library in InDesign.
I place the same object from the library in the document. The Element looses the pageinformation. the preview is still correct, but when i export an PDF it collects the information from the illustrator file again and it has an other icon in its place…So it is a massive problem of missmanaging elements and creates Errors in production!…

InDesign changing opacity for an unselected item
I am trying to place a slightly opaque rectangle over an image but when I select to lower the opacity on the rectangle, the image (regardless if it's above or below) changes as well.
What's more odd is when I select that photo after I do the action, the image says it is at 100%. The "change" has not been reflected. I have uploaded a 1-2-3 photo demo. Note the photo's slight change in transparency although set at 100%.
This happens when the photo and rectangle are in separate layers, as well. The two items are not placed within each…
10 votesThe magic of InDesign’s effects all happens via Adobe’s transparency technology, which allows us to blend colors and detail from different objects. In order for it to all work there has to be a consistent color space for InDesign to use when it blends colors. This is called the Transparency Blend Space and it’s really important that you understand it in order to get the most out of InDesign’s effects. When we use transparency effects, InDesign compares different objects and combines their colors and detail. In order for objects to be blended, they have to be in the same color space. So when you apply transparency, InDesign converts everything on a spread to the Transparency Blend Space, regardless of whether that object is actually involved in the effect. And it’s important to note that when we say things are converted, we don’t mean that InDesign alters your placed files; they…
