[ID-4281542]Unable to move multiple objects when selecting image frames
With the latest version of Indesign (21.4) I can't move multiple image frames any more unless I group them. This also applies when selecting an image frame and graphic elements such as rectangles or text frames, everything else deselects and stays put with the image moving. Except when I click and drag on the non image frame of the selection, then everything works as it should. Can you please fix this as it is highly annoying.
Mac OS 26.5, Indesign 21.4
Workaround:
- Holding the Shift key while dragging allows the entire selection to move correctly.
- Rolling back from InDesign 21.4 to InDesign 21.3 resolves the issue.
InDesign 21.4.1, which includes the fix, is now live.
The update should be available in the Creative Cloud app. If you do not see it yet, please click “Check for Updates” to refresh the available updates.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked to resolve this issue.

Same issue, except that the shift key doesn't help, it still only moves the image.

I can't deselect an image box by clicking on it once it has been selected as part of a group. I can deselect text boxes and lines just not an image box. The only way i can deselect one is by dragging my cursor from the side and over the edge, but this isnt obviously a good solution when the image box is mixed into a busy layout as im having to then reselect items.

Having this issue too. Very frustrating trying to make high level product catalogues with 20+ images per page.

When trying to move a group of object, in Indesign 21.4 on MacOS Tahoe 26.3, as soon as the group is moved, certain elements do not move with the group or they are shifted off their axis. Please see attached screenshot and notice what the drop shadow is doing.

Is there an update on this? This is really inconvenient. I don't want AI features; I just want InDesign to work as expected, respectfully.

We don't seem to get many incremental quick patches like a 21.4.1 so you can expect to wait for the next rollout of 21.5 which will mostly be a load of ai stuff you don't want, but also happens to include the missing ; on the code that's currently breaking it

1 Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server: Adobe 21.4
2 Steps to reproduce the issues: Create an image box with an image in it (set content grabber to off). Create a text block with a few words of text in it. Select both the photo box and text box by either holding down shift button and clicking on each OR by dragging the mouse around both items so both are selected.
3 Expected result: If I move the mouse over the photo box it should allow me to move both the photo box and text box since both photo box and text box are selected (InDesign functioned this way for years and year until recent upgrade).
4 Actual result: If I move the mouse over the photo box and click to move both boxes (since both photo box and text box are selected), it deselects the text box (and any other items selected) and only moves the photo box. It does move both items if I select the text box to move them, but doesn’t work properly if I select the photo box to move both. This has been happening for several weeks at least. -

By the way on my version holding shift key is not a work around. In fact when I selcect with shift and try to move more than one object together it ungroups them

So broken! I can't believe you have not fixed this yet, just switched to a different computer that has the latest version and now I can't select 2 and move 2 objects at same time again. This is a fundemntal basic user interface thing. It makes indesign UNUSABLE! I can't beleive you have not fixed it yet, it must be like a bracket missing in the code or something. Shocking. This was reported over a week ago now.

I'm using INDD version 21.4. this is happening with multiple people (not everyone) in my company right now (all in the same up-to-date version).
If i try to select multiple objects by either marquis select or shift-click, once i have the objects we want to move, if i click and drag on one of the selected object that has an image in a box and drag, it moves just the box with the image inside it. but if i click on a text box or a simple color box and drag, it drags the entire selection.
in the attached image, A is an image in a graphic box, and the two objects labeled "B" are a text box and a color block. if i select all of them and click on "A" to drag, it only moves the image box A. if i click either the text or the color block labeled "B", it moves all the objects selected (as you would expect it to do either way).
