  1. Alt text transposition issue with book files

I'm using a book file to organize a number of interactive forms.

When I export out the forms as interactive PDFs, the alt text that was designated in the "button and forms" panel for that form field sometimes gets switched out for alt text that is used in another form if the fields share the same name. This happens on export whether I use the"Export book to PDF" option in the book panel or I use the "File" option export (ctrl+E keyboard shortcut).

The alt text remains correct in the InDesign file and only gets switched out upon export.

    For…

  2. Table Of Contents Page Number Before Entry and Alphabetical Listing

I'm on InDesign 17.3 on an Intel iMac Pro (2017) running macOS 12.4 (Monterey), though I have the same problem on my new M1 MacBook Pro (same OS). No matter what I do, no matter what preferences I reset or cache I clear, I can't generate a table of contents with the page numbers before the listing, or generate a table of contents in alphabetical order instead of page order. I know it worked at one point, because I painstakingly created a paragraph style with nested styles to automatically generate my table of contents for the monthly magazine I make.…

  3. Footnotes display spanning columns correctly, don't print across both columns

First time I've had to use the footnote options in InDesign. I have several pages with footnotes which occur at the bottom of each page in each associated text block. Span across columns is checked in both the Footnote Style I created, as well as in the Layout options. The footnotes display correctly on screen as intended. (See second screenshot)

When I print spreads from InDesign to an Epson P5000, the footnotes only print the text that is under the lefthand column. All of the footnote text on the right disappears. (See first screenshot)

    Exporting the pages to a…

  4. Bad PDF Export to x1a with indd placed in InDesign

    • problem in InDesign CC2019 / macOS 10.14.3, 10.13.9
    • no problem with previous InDesign versions (on 10.13 systems)

Sometimes i use InDesign document (page) placed into another InDesign document (because more work with some pages and reuse them in more documents). If these placed Indd documents contains RGB images with transparencies (like transparency in PSD files, or transparency effects applied to flat images in InDesign), these images are exported very bad, highly desaturated. But only when export to PDF X1a (required by our printer, i use profile "ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)" in all indd). No problem when exporting to higher…

    Hi,
Please can you share the sample InDesign files that can help me reproduce the issue at amaarora@adobe.com?
Please do add a small video illustrating the bug

  5. "Reverse on Roll Off" doesn't work

The feature "Reverse on Roll Off" does not appear to work.

I have a simple button set up with an On Roll Over event to Play an Animation. The button works as intended.
However, I have the "Reverse on Roll Off" checkbox ticked, presuming it would automatically apply a "Reverse" command to the Animation when the mouse cursor Rolls Off the button.

    It does not.

Due to the nature of my button and animation design, setting up separate "On Roll Over" and "On Roll Off" Events on the same button is not an option, because the various combinations of the…

  6. Option to change the color of bitmap fonts

We need a way to change the color for white/grayscale bitmap fonts.

We often use Bitmap fonts for the better texture we can get from them; however, not having the option to change the color of the font, means we have to change the color within photoshop, then either export separate images or entire fonts for each color we use. This is rather inefficient and slows down our process. Having the ability change the color of a white or grayscale bitmap font would be very useful.

  7. system prompts glitch out and bug the program

So, sometimes when I get a prompt, that might be rare I got it once for now but still wanted to share it, so when I get a prompt sometimes, like a system prompt from Indesign like those ones that say some warning and have an ok button(basically a dialog box) so when I get a dialog box it glitches out, disappears but stays active and not clicked and thus you can't do anything in the program because the dialog is in focus so naturally until you click it all the options in the program are greyed out(almost all) including…

  8. place file missing

I'm making a booklet identifying all 200 products for a client. I had been attempting to import 3-7 pdfs using the place function at a time. Show Import Options is on. Often one or two files will appear in the links list as if they were coming in with the others, but do not come up in the placing. They are in the links panel with no page number and no pasteboard indication. If I go back and place an item that has done this individually it will work. If I wasn't checking in each place that the "image file…

  9. Form Fields from InD Tagged Improperly as block rather than inline elements on PDF export

    1. Ver 15.0.2
    2. Create fillable form in InDesign and export as interactive PDF.
    3. Form tags should be nested inside (for example) paragraph tags. Alternatively, Form tags should display "BLOCK" placement attributes in PDF (Tag Properties>Edit Object Properties>Attribute Object Dictionary).
    4. What actually happens is neither of these. Form tags are exported inline with other tags but without the BLOCK placement attribute. According to Matterhorn Protocol, these are not appropriate semantically for the structure element "Form." This is a PDF Accessibility issue.

What I end up doing is taking each Form tag and nesting it under the descriptive P tag which precedes it.…

  10. Links panel

    Hi Support Team,
I’ve been using Adobe InDesign for the last few years, and after the latest update it looks like the option to copy the missing file name from the Links panel has been removed.
This feature was extremely useful, because you could quickly copy the file name and search for it across available storage locations (local drive / external drives / server).
Now, instead, there are only two options to copy the full file path to the missing file. I don’t really understand why there are two versions of essentially the same action, and more importantly — the…

  13. ePub incorrect color conversion of placed images

    Mac running 10.14.4
InDesign 14.0.2 working color space is sRGB
Image placed has embedded profile of sRGB
Native InDesign content created with color numbers matching those in image
    Exported to ePub

Result: RGB color numbers of native object correctly match those of original sRGB numbers BUT those of the placed image have changed. The numbers indicate they have been converted to the active display ICC profile!
Happens whether object export options on image are set to JPEG or PNG.

I confirmed this by changing the monitor profile in System Preferences and relaunching InDesign. the exported image's color numbers changed to…

  14. Some dielines converting to filled shapes

    Environment:
    CS 2025 (InDesign 20.0.1, Illustrator 29.1)
    Mac Studio (M2 Ultra, 192gb, Sonoma 14.7.1)

We receive dielines as .dxf files from engineering. We open these files in Illustrator and create a layered file (dieline and art), export the individual layers as dieline and art, then impose the project using InDesign. Some dielines are changing from a stroke to a filled shape (think Minus Front) once the .pdf file is written from InDesign. (line verified as line in Illustrator in both the Illustrator document and the pdf generated of the dieline to use for imposition. InDesign generated (imposed) pdf file is…

  15. Place PDF causes InDesign to fail requiring force quit.

    InDesign CC 13.1, OSX 10.13.5 on iMac Retina 5k 27-inch Late 2014.

All updates are latest available. Attempting to place a PDF file (single page) into an InDesign document with "Show Import Options" selected (only) results in a mostly-empty "Place PDF" dialog box. Mousing over the box causes missing parts to appear one-by-one, except the "Place" button. Clicking "cancel" closes the dialog box but then many/most InDesign functions no longer work, including menu items. InDesign won't quit, either from the File/Quit menu item or command-Q. Only way to restore the application is to force quit. This bug is 100%…

To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

If you still face this issue even after updating to the latest version of InDesign, please submit the crash report to us. (The guidelines to submit crash are available at (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html)

We seek your support in our continual effort to improve InDesign.

  16. Cannot use restrain option or opt/command/shift to make duplicates?

Something I have been frustrated with since CS 2019 was introduced is starting to really annoy me now. I have not been able to find how to fix the problems but basically ....
If I draw a rule using the Line tool using 'shift' to restrain the rule to horizontal or vertical does not work, it just floats about at any angle you can think of - I just want to draw a perfect horizontal rule without having to go and edit the position markers!
Then there's the restrain option to enlarge or reduce shapes/images etc - it no longer…

  17. Buttons and Forms

I am using InDesign CC (13.0) on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6 using a MacBook Pro13 in, mid-2012.

When The Buttons and Forms panel is docked with the other panels, it will usually refuse to expand. There does not seem to be a set pattern to it, but it seems more likely to expand correctly when working with TextFields than when working with Radio Buttons, Check Boxes, or Combo Boxes. I have seen it work correctly when working with a Text Field, then when I select a Radio Button, the Buttons and Forms panel will momentarily populate with the expected content…

  18. Object Style defined to ignore Nonprinting changes Nonprinting status when applied to grouped frames

Object Style defined to ignore Text Wrap & Other, when applied to a group of two frames where one has Nonprinting applied and the other does not, changes the Nonprinting status.

Expected result: attributes in a category that is greyed out will be ignored, including Nonprinting.

Actual result: Nonprinting turned off and frame prints and is visible in Overprint Preview.

Pictured: The only intended purpose of the object style is to change position of frame. 1: The two frames are grouped. Large frame is live, small frame is note for designer. 2: The object style as defined. (By the way,…

  19. Crash: "Keep Lines Together" (All) and disabled "Allow Split Footnotes" crashes InDesign if there are footnotes in a table

100% reproducible on InDesign 15.0.2 on Windows 10.
Sample document for easy reproduction: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iirawdsvd27l95l/indesign%20crash.indd?dl=1

    Starting point:
    1. I have a table containing some footnotes.
    2. Footnotes are not allowed to be split.
    3. The table (including footnotes) doesn't fit in the frame, so the last row jumps to the next frame.

    To crash InDesign:
    1. Place the text marker in the paragraph containing the table.
    2. Go to Keep Options.
    3. Check "Keep Lines Togheter" and "All Lines in Paragraph".

Result: InDesign immediately hangs and you have to force quit.

Please fix? Should be easy to track down the…

  20. InDesigns gives me random stuff when clicking on an option

Recently, I'm in for a surprise when trying to use InDesign. I click on a certain option, and something random pops up, for example while typing this, I'm clicking on "Window > Pages", I'm getting redirected to Adobe website to buy InDesign (note, I already bought the license). Clicking again, redirected to another InDesign file, clicking another time, now I get my Table Style, basically I get everything except the Pages.

It's always a surprise what I get and I don't know how to get rid of this issue once and for all. This is the case for every option.…
