Hunspell dictionaries cannot be added in Sierra or High Sierra
Adding Hunspell dictionaries breaks code-signing, and results in the whole of InDesign's spelling system being sand-boxed by OSX.
Steps to reproduce:
On High Sierra and InDesign CC, add a Hunspell dictionary, as detailed here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/add_cs_dictionaries.html
Spell-check any InDesign document using the new dictionary and spell-checking then becomes unusable, until InDesign is uninstalled then re-installed.
The following types of errors are produced in the console, showing that it's a code-signing issue, caused by dictionaries being installed within the Hunspell plugin bundle.
Can I suggest that there should be another place to install additional languages, outside the InDesign application.
The only way I can work with Latin and Ancient Greek languages currently is to use an El Capitan Mac, which does not have the sandboxing.
AMFI: Check-fix enabled for binary '/Applications/Adobe InDesign CC 2018/Resources/Dictionaries/LILO/Linguistics/Providers/Plugins2/AdobeHunspellPlugin.bundl e/Contents/MacOS/AdobeHunspellPlugin' with TeamID 'JQ525L2MZD', identifier 'com.adobe.adobehunspellplugin2': broken signature treated as unsigned without privileges. This workaround will not work for software built on or after 10.12.
Thanks for reporting this issue. We are currently reviewing it.

This problem is not fixed in Indesign cc 2022 or indesign cc 2023.
We were working with an Icelandic Hunspell dictionary and for a while it worked fine.
Then one day it just stopped working.
No hyphenation and Indesign became incredibly slow whenever any language was selected. Selecting "No Language" speeds up Indesign again but without hyphenation it is useless. This needs fixing. Bad.

Has there been any progress in correcting this bug in InDesign?
In my experience, Hunspell, specifically Hunspell hyphenation still does not work for added languages in InDesign 2021 (16.3.2). Some years have passed.
As one can read here in the comments are a few workarounds, most of the you have to reapply at one stage or another. I suppose that is not Adobe's idea to have people live with that. -

I can confirm that the workaround by Mwvceu works in High Sierra for InDesign 2020.
There is also another workaround that will stick after restart: override an existing language’s files with your own.
I replaced the en_CA files with my own language files, renaming my own language files to match. Now, when I select English: Canadian as the language for some text, I get the spelling and hyphenation of my language (English: Australian).
Of course, this is not ideal since all the styles in the document have the wrong language attached. Regardless, I am getting the hyphenation required for consistency across InDesign versions, platforms and workstations and this is more important than the practically cosmetic issue of having the wrong language name.
A more robust solution would be for Adobe to include a small utility in the InDesign application folder:
1) select the new language code they would like to use or allow user to enter a valid language and country code
2) allow user to select .aff, .dic and hyph.dic files for addition
3) copy the files to the correct location and update the code signaturesIt is disappointing that this issue still exists for the most recent version of InDesign. It has been two years since Adobe has been aware of the issue.

I have the same issue with Macedonian language. We need this fixed.
If I add Macedonian to the info.plist file spelling doesn't work at all for any language. -

For those who come here searching for solutions for their Hunspell problems in InDesign 2016, 2017, 2018 2019 and most likely 2020 should try to install this https://font.is/hunspell-hyphenation-for-indesign-cc-2019/
It is complete solution for Icelandic but at the same time solves Hunspell for manually installed Hunspell files that do not work.

The Galician Hunspell dictionary does not work correctly (I do not know if others work). See the whole video please. This happens from 2016. I can solve it temporarily (until I turn off the computer). I have two Info.plist one with Galician string and another without it. I need open InDesign whith the original Info.plist (without Galician string), close it, rename the Info.plist and open InDesign. And voilà! It WORK (yes, but until I turn off the computer)

Is this still an issue with InDesign CC2019?

Hi Sakshi.
Do you have any update on this issue? Since the ability to add additional languages to InDesign is an officially documented feature and is mission-critical for global publishing, can this fix be given priority?

Any ideas if this fix will make it into a Rapid release build for CC 2017? We have a plethora of additional language support we add in our environment to make InDesign's publishing useful for us. This is a high impact issue to our business.
