1. Data marge help page QR code section needs visual help

   I'm not doing QR codes daily, only on some jobs and some trainings. SO I often refer to the right help page.

   Where the image field section is precise, and adds visuals of the table itself :

   "Add image fields in the data source file
   (…)
   At the beginning of the data field name, type an “at” symbol (@) to insert text or paths that refer to image files.
   The @ symbol is required only in the first line; subsequent lines should include the image paths. Paths, which are case-sensitive, must follow the naming conventions of the operating system in which they’re stored."

   The QR Code section gives only little information AND only mentions ONCE the required # sign (which I never remember)

   "Though the data entries can be a mix of email, sms, hyperlink, or plain text type. Enter them in the .csv and txt field in the above mentioned format with a # sign on their column name. To generate QR codes, follow these instructions"

   Go spot that when in a hurry.

   PLUS the data merge panel preview only shows text and images icons, It would really benefit from adding one QR Code line example AND mention those @ and # signs in this section or prerequisite sections.

2. Half of the Tools Don't Work!!

   This issue used to only happen sparingly and now its happens almost every time i try to use InDesign — making a 5 min edit take over an hour!

   Here are the common uses I experience...
   - I can't click on the bottom that lets you toggle from preview and regular mode, I have to right click it
   - Changing a color gets very glitchy, doesn't actually change the color to what I tell it to, just says the same
   - Can't click on the toggle to get the shape tool
   - When I click export or "save as" literally nothing happens. This is the hardest part. The only way i am able to save something is by closing out in design and the prompt comes up if I want to save or not save my work.

   The only way I've gotten it to work is by restarting the app. This used to always work to get rid of the bugs, but lately has had no effect and I just have to wait until I get lucky and the app works.

   Please advise because this has been causing me a lot of issues.

   I should also mention that I am unable to click "submit bug/feature request". Nothing happens after I click :)

3. Outlined text

   I'm using InDesign v 16.1 for a Mac. I just encountered an issue with outlining text. As you can see in the "Display in Preview" png, all of the text is visible and matches what I actually see in InDesign. All of this text is outlined by pressing command + O. When you look at the "Display in Acrobat" png, the yellow outlined text appears to be transparent. Again, all of the text in the png files are outlined. This issue is also visible at our print shop. The workaround I found is just to keep the text live, but there are times where I need the text to be outlined. Any guidance on this issue would be appreciated.

4. Acrobat extension for Chrome renders sheared rectangles incorrectly in PDF exported from InDesign CC 2022 / 24

   Filled sheared rectangles in PDF documents exported from InDesign are rendered incorrectly in the Adobe Acrobat extension for Chrome, but displays as expected in other PDF readers [ Preview, Safari, Quickview, etc. ]. The sheared rectangles are displayed as a box of the fill colour with the outer bounds of the sheared shape. Adding a stroke suggests the sheared rectangle is preserved, but is not honoured by the fill.

   Work around: Adding an additional anchor point, or rounding the corners, appears to correct this issue.

5. Bug with world ready composer when use space like thin en or em space in Thai language. And bug in text wrapping in 2020 version.

   After updated to 2020 version that added support to Asian languages (include Thai), it look like Indesign force user (in my case Thai) to set language in Advanced Character Formats to Thai. After set the language Indesign also require me to use World-Ready Composer to set all tone marks in place.
   .
   Before the latest version, I always avoid to use World-Ready Composer because it combines a word to single object, not just locks tone mark and float vowel to character in the right position. By which it impossible to navigate with text tool to the position of text that I want to revise, even if I use right/left key to navigate. It mostly skips word by word, not only character by character. And when I delete a word or a character, some time it not only deletes backward but forward too. (I think because of when I delete character form a word Indesign instantly recognises new word and forces to delete that new word.) But After updated to 2020, I think, I anymore cannot avoid World-Ready Composer.

   After I designed to use World-Ready Composer, I found one more bug. Because in many situations when I craft the spacing in layout (especially in Thai), I always use thin-space to separate character like “ๆ” form word before and after to make the space between them look good. But After I set to World-Ready I found that when thin-space (include other spacial white space like en or em) is in the back of the line the spaces in question act like normal character, so the last character of the line when use left justify do not snap to right frame border. The space still there like It becames one of character. So you can see the gap between the last character and the right frame border. (you can find this instance in attachment in file “space issue.”)

   But the serious issue still there after the update. I, and all of my co-workers, found that everything about word wrapping in Thai language goes wrong after updated to 2020 version. This never happen in the former versions. I don't understand why this issue is happen. Even if I use Discretionary Line Break to help Indesign to wrap text properly. But It is not productive at all, because I had been forced to read text all over again and to insert Discretionary Line Break to every lines. (you can find this instance in attachment in file “wrap gone wrong.” In the high-light is the words that should be stick together.)

   PS. while I wrote this issue report, my co-worker tried to migrate back form 2020 to 2019 and she found that when copy revised text back to 2019 it not the same character encoding. I advised her to try to place that text to TextEdit. It appears that some character is changed to something that is not unicode at all. That never happen in previous versions too. ((you can find this instance in attachment in file “text form 2020” and “text form 2020.” the text form 2020 at frist did in 2019 before migrate to 2020.)

7. Linked EPS appears with jagged/rough edges even on High Quality Display

   I've never seen this before, but linked vector EPS files aren't previewing properly in InDesign. The edges are super jagged when they should be smooth lines.

8. The pdf file I export is not the same with the file I saw in my screen!

   The pdf file I export is not the same with the file I saw in my screen. The preview when I working in indesign is wrong. So when I put my cursor in a line to make a corrections this correction is done about 3 or 4 lines below my selection.

9. changing document size

   Hello!

   I am using the latest Version of Indesign CC 2018. (13.0).
   The following bug exists in the previous version as well.

   Create a new indesign document of (for example) 500 x 500mm.

   Next, place some single objects close to the border, but stay inside the documentformat.

   Now, go to "File; Document settings", where you can adjust the document size. Decrease the size from 500 x 500 to (for example) 400 x 400, with the Preview-Button ENABLED.

   Wait for the moment until the Objects move OUTSIDE the document border, because of the to smaller fileformat.

   Now, again increase the the document size to 500 x 500.
   All Objects, that are OUTSIDE, remain there, and don't move back within the document format.

10. GDI Handles

    Indesign 19.5 x64 does not cleanup GDI Handles on Windows 10 build 19045.4529, version 22H2.

    This only occurs when the feature 'Turn on Overprint Preview' is enabled, and you start scrolling. When you disable that feature, you can scroll again without the GDI Handles being hogged by Indesign. The handles rae, after the feature is disabled, not released.

    A 28 page project, and a scroll up and down trough the project, costed me almost 600 GDI handles, and when I'm at 10.000, Windows just stops serving new ones and Indesign will crash.

    Expected outcome: GDI Handles do either not increase upon scrolling within the 'Overprint preview' function, or they are released once I disable the feature.

    Currect outcome: GDI handles are held by the Indesign.exe process, up and until the 10.000 counter, with as a result that InDesign becomes unresponsive to the Operating System, debuggers cannot be attached anymore and the only option is to just kill it.

    I've recorded my steps and included screenshots of the GDI Handles counter being aggressively moving up when I'm scrolling. However, it is in a ZIP file as how Windows serves them. This is the public link to the file in my Google Drive. It will be there for a few months, then I'll remove it, so please get it before then.

11. PDF/vector rasterize fail

    Pdf rasterization has been bad for many years, a long time ago I reported this problem with complex graphics when thin lines appear in the image when saved to jpg. Previously, at least a pdf from indesign could be opened in photoshop, which had a different rasterization, but it has been the same for a long time, and when rasterizing SOME pdfs, it always creates thin lines in different places depending on the resolution...

    Here is a sample QR directly generated in indesign when saved to jpg and in the preview in the application shows these thin lines!!!

    I would like to point out that before photoshop had a different code for rasterization and it did not cause this, but now it is obviously the same...

12. INDESIGN 2021 DOES NOT PASTE IN PLACE CORRECTLY on page or spread

    pastes off whack / not at all aligned properly on page.

    ID doesn't retain proper perspective or type sizes either.
    and it groups all items instead of keeping as separate objects, frames, items but it won't allow ungrouping!!!!

    In Adobe In Design CC 14.0.1 x64
    We use a previous file to keep the formatting of a merged mailing list. I used to be that when you copied the file to a new directory it could no longer find the old data file and gave you a warning. It also would not show you a preview because it could not find the data.

    Unfortunately, the new version seems to have held the old data so we printed the old merged file by mistake. It doesn't even make sense that it should be able to do this if the link is broken. This is very dangerous. If the data link is broken you should see the fields but no data!

    I am fairly certain this did not happen in previous versions.

14. 15.1.2 inserting ANY html is not working

    Version:
    bug only appears on inDesign 15.1.2 on OSX.
    I tested on inDesign 15.1.1 and inDesign 14.x and it had no issue.
    I also tested on inDesign 15.1.2 on Windows and it had no issue.

    Steps to reproduce the issue:
    -click on "object" -> "insert HTML code" then click "ok". changing the HTML snippet or not make no difference.

    Expected result:
    an HTML item is added and previewed correctly without any error message

    Actual Result:
    The preview of the HTML snippet is not working and after a few seconds, a dialog modal appears saying "Waiting time exceeded for HTML renderer. A poster image could not be generated."

    This is very annoying when using this feature manually and even more annoying when using a script that adds HTML elements because this message will appear and block inDesign every 10 seconds for each element created this way. Even a small document with 1 HTML item per page and 20 pages will be blocked for a few minutes.

    Version:

    The issue has also been fixed in the latest update of InDesign 2020 (ver. 15.1.3).
    Please update InDesign 2020 to version 15.1.3 to get the fix.

15. Object Style defined to ignore Nonprinting changes Nonprinting status when applied to grouped frames

    Object Style defined to ignore Text Wrap & Other, when applied to a group of two frames where one has Nonprinting applied and the other does not, changes the Nonprinting status.

    Expected result: attributes in a category that is greyed out will be ignored, including Nonprinting.

    Actual result: Nonprinting turned off and frame prints and is visible in Overprint Preview.

    Pictured: The only intended purpose of the object style is to change position of frame. 1: The two frames are grouped. Large frame is live, small frame is note for designer. 2: The object style as defined. (By the way, the Text Wrap attributes are not listed in the style definition summary in the Object Style Options panel.) 3: After invoking the object style, the Nonprinting attribute of the small frame is now unchecked.

    Object Style defined to ignore Text Wrap & Other, when applied to a group of two frames where one has Nonprinting applied and the other does not, changes the Nonprinting status.

16. Reflowable EPUB3: "Page Navigation" export option adds a space inside hyphenated words at page breaks

    1. Version of InDesign: 19.4

    2. steps to reproduce

       • create a new InDesign file
       • add a text frame to the blank page
       • add enough text so some words are hyphenated at the page breaks for the next pages
       • export to epub3
       • enable "Page Navigation" on EPUB export

    3. Expected result
       Page navigation markers are added without interrupting the hyphenated words at the page breaks.

    4. Actual result

       When using the "Page Navigation" export option for reflowable EPUB exports, InDesign adds a <span> and </span> tag pair with a blank space character in the HTML export instead of simply dropping the soft hyphen that was present in the print layout.

       Result in the EPUBs XHTML:

       <p class="bodytext">Idel illandia suntusdae quoditint debitatissit quam quamus magnimus es quiaeper elor eper<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>nat quo con re nimus?</p>

       Another example using English text (from the "Georgia" file in the EPUB3 samples project):

       In my file "georgia", the words "consists" and "headward" are both hyphenated by InDesign as "con-sists" and "head-ward" at the page breaks, but exported to EPUB as

       con<span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>sists

       and

       head<span id="page3" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="3" epub:type="pagebreak"> </span>ward</span>

       respectively, thus displaying as "con sists" and "head ward".

       I am confident that this is not an issue of readers / apps display the EPUB erroneously, as I tested my example files on a PC with Kindle Previewer 3.81, Adobe Digital Editions 4.5, Thorium 2.2.0, as well as on a Kindle Paperwhite via Send to Kindle, a tolino (popular brand of readers in Germany, both with Adobe RMSDK rendering engine and new Readium-based rendering engine), an iPad with Apple Books and a Pocketbook InkPad Color.

       The W3C recommendation for page break markers is not a pair of opening <span> and closing </span> tags, but a self-closing <span/> tag, e.g.

       <span id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak" aria-label="2" epub:type="pagebreak"/>

       which would look like this for the above examples:

       Personally, I'd think using a pair of <span> / </span> tags WITHOUT an additional space should work out, too, if you absolutely must use a tag pair for whatever reason.

       However, I would strongly urge you to change the implementation to conform to the W3C recommendation.

       Either way, the current behaviour creates errors on EPUB export which are not present in the indd source file - so please change this as soon as possible.

    5. Test files

       How am I supposed to supply a sample file if I am neither allowed to upload indd, idml, epub or zip files‽

17. InDesign Fonts folder no longer respects symlinks (2019, Mac)

    The Fonts folder in the InDesign 2019 application folder no longer follows symlinks, as previous versions did.

    I prefer to keep my InDesign fonts separate from my system fonts, and in previous versions placed a symlink to my font folder in the InDesign application folder, titled "Fonts." InDesign would follow that link, and I would have access to all of my fonts within InDesign, without needing to install them user- or system-wide.

    In InDesign 2019, no symlinks are followed - not on the top level, and not inside the folder either. (Tested by symlinking one font or one folder inside a new Fonts folder.)

    Please upgrade your InDesign application to the latest version to try out the fix.

    If you are unable to see the update yet, go to Creative Cloud desktop application, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right corner and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.

    After the last update, the following things no longer work properly:
    1. CC Libraries
    (Crashes and shows either a reduced or enlarged section of the library and is no longer usable. Only a program restart helps ... short term! see screenshot 1. the bug was already in Illustrator!)

    1. edge smoothing! (Not only since the update): ... Does not work properly for quite some time! 2.1 Completely covered areas, lines and graphics have a slight contour due to the edge smoothing and become minimally visible (although these would actually be invisible and not visible in print) or form minimally soft edges, or corners where there are none! (see screenshot 2) 2.2 Frames with effects and in which images are loaded whose outer edges are 100 percent transparent, form fine gray outer lines on the outer edges where there are none!
    2. effect & effect preview: no longer works properly with texts and shreds them after scaling or makes them invisible! A problem which I never had before and what worked wonderfully before the update. (S. Scrrenshot 3)

    In addition, as an addition bugs in Íllustrator with 3D extrusions and invited images on it! Bugs with Adobe RAW: Zoom Scollrad works no longer or only stuttery!

    Dear Adobe team, what is going on? The whole thing costs a lot of time, a lot of money and nerves ... infinite nerves!!!!!!!!! It's starting to remind me of QuarkXpress!

Vollständig abgedeckte Flächen, Linien und Grafiken haben durch die Kantenglättung auf einmal ein leichte Kontur und werden minimal sichtbar (Obwohl diese eigentlich unsichtbar und im Druck nicht sichtbar wären) oder bilden minimal weiche Kanten, oder Ecken wo keine sind!        2.2 Rahmen mit die mit Effekten versehen sind und in denen Bilder eingeladen werden deren Ausskanten zu 100 Prozent transparent sind, bilden an den Aussenkanten feine graue aussenlinien, wo keine sind!

19. Dreamweaver and Indesign allocating all available memory

    I have an M1 iMac (8gb ram and 256 SSD) no matter how small or big the project I'm working on is, after about 10mins it takes over 90% of all available memory! Although I have adjusted to saving and quitting after every 10mins, I would love for this not to be an issue in the first place.

    Details: I open the application to work on school projects. Some projects as small as 1 spread and only text (no images) and some over 10 pages with many images. The bigger projects cap out memory around the same time as the smaller ones. I turn down display graphics and even try using CPU preview instead of GPU, this does nothing to the performance. Indesign works great with no buffers and is incredibly smooth up until the very moment the macOS brings up the dialogue screen that asks me to force quit applications to avoid computer damage.

20. One plate prepared pdf images are separated to four plates in final pdf book

    InDesign 2020 v 15.02, MacOS Catalina

    I want to produce a book pdf with only black plate. I placed 3 grey pdf images in ID document and prepared them to use only black color (no cyan, magenta and yellow). The final result is that these images are separated to four plates in pdf book.

    The solution is to save these 3 pdf images as for example tiff or psd and then place them into ID. Then the final result is right: I have a one-plate pdf book using only black color.

    If this is a bug, please fix it, because it may cause problems with preparing book for print.

    Update:
    I created pdf with the same image but with unchecked option "Optimize file…” and the colors are separated again. If I check this option, the problem doesn’t occur.

    It’s really dangerous to have a bug like this. If I didn’t check pdf in Acrobat Pro, I would lead to extra cost of four plates instead of one.
