[ID-4259367]Error handling dialog shown while placing some TIFF/EPS files
Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again.
After I upgraded InDesign 19.5.1 to 19.5.2. Linked images do not show on the page in high quality display settings. I have about 60 linked indesign files into my one file. And I was afraid to upgrade to 20.1 and from Sonoma to Sequoia. Any fixes for this? Perhaps get rid of some of the links.. too many links? 60? 2 page document. Newer M2 MacBook Air.
Edit: Update: Downgraded back to 19.5.1. Everything is working perfectly. Thanks Adobe for allowing very easy downgrades. EXCELLENT.

We have tried to reach out to each one of you to get packaged indd document along with TiFF and EPS image to reproduce the issue internally. However, we have not received any asset to reproduce the issue. We have attempted a fix for this issue in the InDesign PreRelease build(v20.2.0.024) and above.
Please check if the issue is now resolved.

Hello,
I was contacted wether I could provide corrupted files to help investigating this issue; unfortunately the developer contacting me cannot receive mails from my address, so I am informing you hereby that we cleared all affected filed and unfortunately didn't think to back them up. Hopefully another person still has the necessary files. -

After downloading InDesign v19.5.2 an error dialog box continuously pops up that says: Error encountered while reading TIFF image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again.
I am assuming this is referring to EPS files saved with a tiff preview format. We have never had an issue with these files before.
I ended up going back to v19.5.1 and I no longer get the error. I had to do this as I could not work on an document without that dialog box constantly coming up. (unless I deleted all my eps files, which is not an option).

Following upgrade I get the attached error message on opening files with eps links. All previews are greyed out.

Since the update to 19.5.2 I am getting problems opening documents that have eps files (logo's etc). with the error:
Error encountered while reading tiff image. Image may be damaged or incompatible.
To get round this I need to create .ai versions of logo file and try to quickly quickly reimport them before the error comes back up. this includes lots of historic layouts and templates that include eps files and makes it very difficult to work

We have the same trouble on our upgraded clients. Our findings seem to imply that there might be a problem in handling .EPS-files and/or the Display Performance Settings regarding the thumbnails of these linked files.
A workaround seems to be to save the file as an .idml and then back to .indd, but that costs a lot of time and slows us down immensely.

Hello,
After installing the latest update for InDesign 19.5.2, I receive an "TIFF reading error" … on multiple images that are .EPS.
This error popsup constantly and it's very hard to work. The images turn "grey" in the document. The EPS files are fine as this bug does NOT appear on 19.5.1 or the latest version of InDesign CC 2025.
This bug is reported on the Adobe forums.
