  1. Place Images Behind Text Without Outlines

    Description:
In Adobe InDesign, there is currently no option to place images behind text without converting the text to outlines or paths. In Photoshop, this is easily achieved using layer masks and clipping masks. It would be highly beneficial to have a similar feature in InDesign, allowing users to place images directly behind text that can still be edited (font, size, and content) without converting it to outlines.

    Benefits for Users:

Increased flexibility and efficiency when working with text and images
Ability to maintain the editability of the text (users can continue to adjust font, size, and wording)
    More intuitive…

  2. Make "Paste without formatting" work for any type of text in clipboard

If I want to paste text into InDesign and use the destination formatting rather than whatever the source is, I'm hard-wired to use "ctrl + shift + V". However it appears that if the contents of the clipboard are plain text, this command isn't available, presumably because InDesign thinks it's not necessary.

This means that the interface is inconsistent, because sometimes you need ctrl + V and sometimes you need ctrl + shift + V, depending on what's on the clipboard.

The option should always be available so that if you want plain text you can use the ctrl…

  3. Update text box design so that the middle bottom anchor point isn't almost always hidden by "Explore more text options" / "O" icon

The text box needs an update. I can almost never adjust the size of my text boxes from the middle bottom anchorpoint, butcause the "O" icon for "Explore More Text Options" is on top of it or near enough to it that I can't select the anchorpoint. I need to be able to resize text boxes from the bottom middle anchorpoint. Adjusting the size with the bottom right anchorpoint isn't a usually a good option because the width will change slightly.

Fix this issue by moving the O icon away from any anchorpoints outside of the box somewhere.

  4. Borders on cells in a table

When adding a border (a stroke) to a cell-style for a table, I think it would be very usefull you can actually align the position of that stroke towards the cellframe. Like, for text-frames or image-frames you can choose "inside, outside or in the middle". For tables/cells, you can not. I often have to use a paragraph style with a paragraph border to get "more accurate" results. My screenshot will explain better.

  5. Would like to be able to apply formatting to text variables

You should be able to somehow apply formatting to text variables. (See screenshot: TextVariable.png). The running header on the right hand page is based on the "chapter title" on the left hand page, but the italics can't be applied. It would be nice if you could apply a GREP style, or even a nested style, to the paragraph style that is applied to running header.

  7. Object styles to include layer allocation

E.g.. Text frame (object style) can be then assigned to text layer and moved accordingly.
It would work well for images/charts, etc for long docs such as Annual Reports, etc
Would be a good organisational tool to keep text layers above image/graphics that can cause issues.

  8. Make Text variables recognise text variables 'from previous page'

At the moment for dictionary-type work, using text variables for running heads gives you the option of showing the first word on the page on left-hand page running heads, and the last word on the page right-hand pages. BUT where the feature lacks is if the left-hand page starts half-way through a paragraph. For example, if the last dictionary word on the right-hand page is 'peanut' but the paragraph goes over to the next left-hand page, you want it to show 'peanut' at the top of this left-hand page as it is a continuation from the previous page, but you…

  9. Text "before" and "after" user-definded variables

    Text variables
For "User defined text" also allow to define "Text before..." and "Text after..." as it is possible for the predefined variables (like "Output date").
We often need pre- and post-text for self-defined variables

  10. Kerning Issues Between Text and Tabs

A detail about kerning/tracking that seems to have slipped through the cracks: how text and tabs interact with each other in Indesign.

I noticed this while doing fillable forms with underscores. The space after the type wildly varies in distance, and from what I can tell, there is no way to automatically or manually adjust it. I tried switching kerning between manual and optical, with no results. I tried manually adjusting the kerning, which doesn't affect it either. The spacing seems to be related to the length of the text.

    A visual example:
    Address____
    ZIP code _____

    A future…

  11. Column Guides and Text Wrapping

Can Ignore Text Wrap be an option in the properties for Column Rules? As an instructional designer in a team, we often have screenshots of the UI, with a text wrap of Jump, at the top of the left column in a two column layout. Currently, that forces the column rule to begin below the image, see screenshot.

  12. "Create Outlines" should automatically "convert bullets and numbering to text" first.

Currently you have to remember to select "Convert bullets and numbering to text" before you also select "Create Outlines." This should not be a two part process as there would never be a time when a designer would suddenly want the bullets and numbers to disappear when making outlined text for a printer.

  13. CC Library

Allow inline placed text to be linked the way objects are. I.E., multiple formatted text objects from the library in one text frame, but individually linked beginning and end points, similar to a data merge tag.

  14. Need the ability to assign fonts to Interactive Text Boxes

Please, please, PLEASE update the Interactive Buttons and Forms functionality to include the ability to assign fonts to the Interactive Text Boxes.

Currently, I have to hope that the design I have made is 100% final approved before I can create the final Interactive PDF and spend additional time fine-tuning the fonts and paragraph alignment. If there are any changes after that, I have to go through the entire process again, losing valuable hours, depending on the length of the document. The ability to change only the font size is useless.

But if the functionality was included in the…

  15. Threaded Text Overflow between Documents

I often work on publications 500-1,500+ pages in length, which requires me to use several documents, threading text full of graphics in each document. I cannot contain everything in one document (too large, will crash, even though all graphics are linked rather than embedded). If there was a way to automatically allow text to overflow into new documents after a set amount of pages per document, that would be amazing. It would save me tons of time when manipulating content and then aligning before preflight. You could even keep it to where this feature only works if used in…

  16. The hope of developing a new vertical effect of CJk text

(If you only want to read the core content, please go directly to the end of this article)

(This document is designated to be delivered to Adobe Japan)

    ————————

    Dear Adobe Japan:

Thank for your attention and helping. On behalf of my region, I would like to make a request boldly to your company about the new effect of vertical typesetting.

The existing versions of indesign equipped with CJK typesetter and applicable to East Asia have only one text arrangement direction for vertical text arrangement - the first column inherited is on the right, from right to left from ancient…

  17. Show warning if you try to spellcheck checked-in text

If you spellcheck a text which is checked in no changes will be made. You only get the information that 0 changes were made. This behaviour may be logically correct, but it i user-unfriendly.
Please inform the user that he/she is spell-checking a checked-in text. Plus: Allow him/her at this point to check out the text.
