  1. Vignette effect for frames

    Hi guys,

This would be a killing feature. There's NO WAY to automatically assign a vignette effect to a photo frame. I order to do that I have to:

    1) Emulate the effect . by assigning inner shadow to a frame. This is kind of ok but it has probblems: it's not a propper vignette (vignettes actually affect corners, kind of a radial gradient) and there is no way to apply a size that is relative to the frame (I know, this is not even possible anywhere).

    2) On a picture, I can select the content of the …

  2. Fill with Placeholder Text dynamically changes when resizing box

When a box has been filled with Placeholder Text and is then resized, it would be really useful if the text still fills the box.

So if you make the box larger, more text would be added to still fill the box. If you make the box smaller, text would be removed so the box is still filled but not overset.

  3. Text box

Instead of having to click and dragging to make a text box you should be able to click just once to create a text box, like in illustrator.

  4. Would like to be able to apply formatting to text variables

You should be able to somehow apply formatting to text variables. (See screenshot: TextVariable.png). The running header on the right hand page is based on the "chapter title" on the left hand page, but the italics can't be applied. It would be nice if you could apply a GREP style, or even a nested style, to the paragraph style that is applied to running header.

  5. Add option To Find/Change dialog box to search within notes and conditional text

I would like an option to search within notes and conditional text. In the Find/Change dialog box, there are options on what to search through: Document, Selection, Story, Include Master Pages, etc. There should also be options to search for text in hidden conditional text, as well as in Notes. Please see the attached mock-up User Interface changes for the Find/Change dialog box.

  6. Put the Tab panel in the Text and Table section of the Window menu

The good old Tabs are still standing strong, and they can still do stuff Tables and Character or Paragraph settings can't, like tab leader dots, align on specific characters, fill to right tabs, etc.

But users are always looking for it under the Text and Table section in the Windows menu. I know, it might technically not behave completely like a regular window/panel. But it looks like a window, it moves like a window, so to most people it's a window...

  7. Underlined spaces at the ends of lines in running text

    1. It would be nice if, when an underlined space falls at the end of a line in running text, the space "disappears" so that it's underline isn't hanging out in space like a ghost..
    2. It's valuable because it looks weird when an underlined space sticks out beyond the last nonwhite-space character in the line. It's particularly noticeable in justified type, but I think the same principal applies regardless of the justification.

  8. Update text box design so that the middle bottom anchor point isn't almost always hidden by "Explore more text options" / "O" icon

The text box needs an update. I can almost never adjust the size of my text boxes from the middle bottom anchorpoint, butcause the "O" icon for "Explore More Text Options" is on top of it or near enough to it that I can't select the anchorpoint. I need to be able to resize text boxes from the bottom middle anchorpoint. Adjusting the size with the bottom right anchorpoint isn't a usually a good option because the width will change slightly.

Fix this issue by moving the O icon away from any anchorpoints outside of the box somewhere.

  9. Text "before" and "after" user-definded variables

    Text variables
For "User defined text" also allow to define "Text before..." and "Text after..." as it is possible for the predefined variables (like "Output date").
We often need pre- and post-text for self-defined variables

  10. Option to add Conditional Text to Paragraph/Character Styles

Would be extremely useful if you could automatically add a condition by applying a paragraph or character style (via data merge or an external Data Management System) to text without having to do a GREP find/change. Would make producing different versions more practical.

  11. When you copy/paste a frame from one INDD to another INDD, it doesn't keep the "vertical justification setting."

When you copy/paste a frame from one INDD to another INDD, it doesn't keep the "vertical justification setting."

My idea is that when you do the above action, it retains the same vertical justification setting. Unless - is there a way to turn this on already?

  12. Tab in footnote prefix for aligned decimals

I have a document with over 100 footnotes. I need to align the decimals of every footnote. To do this, I expected to be able to set up in the footnote style an "align to decimal" tab, and then a "justify left" tab for the footnote content, and then a TAB prefix in the "Document Footnote Options." However, there seems to be no way to place a tab as a Footnote text prefix. Entering ^t does nothing, and it gets cleared as soon as I close the options window. Other text or even special characters like ^r for registered…

  13. "Create Outlines" should automatically "convert bullets and numbering to text" first.

Currently you have to remember to select "Convert bullets and numbering to text" before you also select "Create Outlines." This should not be a two part process as there would never be a time when a designer would suddenly want the bullets and numbers to disappear when making outlined text for a printer.

  14. Column Guides and Text Wrapping

Can Ignore Text Wrap be an option in the properties for Column Rules? As an instructional designer in a team, we often have screenshots of the UI, with a text wrap of Jump, at the top of the left column in a two column layout. Currently, that forces the column rule to begin below the image, see screenshot.

  15. Make Text variables recognise text variables 'from previous page'

At the moment for dictionary-type work, using text variables for running heads gives you the option of showing the first word on the page on left-hand page running heads, and the last word on the page right-hand pages. BUT where the feature lacks is if the left-hand page starts half-way through a paragraph. For example, if the last dictionary word on the right-hand page is 'peanut' but the paragraph goes over to the next left-hand page, you want it to show 'peanut' at the top of this left-hand page as it is a continuation from the previous page, but you…

  16. Threaded Text Overflow between Documents

I often work on publications 500-1,500+ pages in length, which requires me to use several documents, threading text full of graphics in each document. I cannot contain everything in one document (too large, will crash, even though all graphics are linked rather than embedded). If there was a way to automatically allow text to overflow into new documents after a set amount of pages per document, that would be amazing. It would save me tons of time when manipulating content and then aligning before preflight. You could even keep it to where this feature only works if used in…

  17. CC Library

Allow inline placed text to be linked the way objects are. I.E., multiple formatted text objects from the library in one text frame, but individually linked beginning and end points, similar to a data merge tag.

  18. Show warning if you try to spellcheck checked-in text

If you spellcheck a text which is checked in no changes will be made. You only get the information that 0 changes were made. This behaviour may be logically correct, but it i user-unfriendly.
Please inform the user that he/she is spell-checking a checked-in text. Plus: Allow him/her at this point to check out the text.

  20. The hope of developing a new vertical effect of CJk text

(If you only want to read the core content, please go directly to the end of this article)

(This document is designated to be delivered to Adobe Japan)

    ————————

    Dear Adobe Japan:

Thank for your attention and helping. On behalf of my region, I would like to make a request boldly to your company about the new effect of vertical typesetting.

The existing versions of indesign equipped with CJK typesetter and applicable to East Asia have only one text arrangement direction for vertical text arrangement - the first column inherited is on the right, from right to left from ancient…
