Make "Paste without formatting" work for any type of text in clipboard
If I want to paste text into InDesign and use the destination formatting rather than whatever the source is, I'm hard-wired to use "ctrl + shift + V". However it appears that if the contents of the clipboard are plain text, this command isn't available, presumably because InDesign thinks it's not necessary.
This means that the interface is inconsistent, because sometimes you need ctrl + V and sometimes you need ctrl + shift + V, depending on what's on the clipboard.
The option should always be available so that if you want plain text you can use the ctrl + shift + V shortcut, regardless of whether it's technically necessary.

I'd like to paste without formatting within tables themselves. I create many documents that have different styles of tables and I'd like to copy from one older table into the newer style table with the same formatting as the new table, but it always pastes formatting from the old table. Making it painstakingly time consuming to edit every single cell in every table. Much appreciated if this paste without formatting was included in tables as well. Thanks!

Paste without formatting is dimmed due to a setting under Clipboard preferences (Edit / Preferences / Clipboard handling).
When Paste is set to "All information" the option to use "Paste without formatting" is again available (and also ctrl+shift+v).
It's described here https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/adding-text-frames.html
under the header "Paste text from another application".This ought to be made simpler in some way. It's very hard to know how to activate a grey option in a menu.

I'm actually wondering if this should be considered a bug rather than a feature request, as I don't see why it would have been deliberately changed (and used to work like requested).

Completely agree. I am copying from a Google doc and previously I used to be able to past without formatting but now it is greyed out. It's so much more re-work for me when I have already set the formatting and have to edit the formatting for little pieces of text all over again!!!

I am frustrated also. its an extra couple steps now when replacing content.

I've been using this recently and was working, now recently doesn't seem to be ever available, despite I'm copying from Word. To be fair the text is taking on the style set in InDesign, but what happened is that for some weird readon ID pasted hyphenated text -with the hyphens!- (the destination text/words are not at the edge of the box, is really as if ID has copied the hyphens as plain text and added characters that shouldn't be there)

i am really annoyed that Indesign keeps breaking basic functionality when it makes an update. I have used paste without formatting for years without incidence and now it doesn't always work when I need it. I don't want any new functionality if it is going to break things like typing and pasting. Many things that used to be one click are now many. That is not how this should work!!!

Completely agree.
AFAIR, in earlier versions of InDesign the "Paste without formatting" command worked regardless of the content formatting. The current behavior is doesn't have any advantage compared to the old one.
