I found a workaround! If you click the "clear" key once or twice (it's on the number keypad on my Apple wireless keyboard that I use for my iMac), it works!

It kind of makes sense to prevent shortcut overlays. But would be nice to add at least the FN1 - FN12 keys as option as many do not have an num block.

Well, since apple removed the numeric option from MacBook that used to work with adding the function button, and made shorted keyboard without numeric numbers, users are unable to add shortcuts to styles unless they have numeric keyboard. It's been a few years like that, witch is why I always use the extended keyboard. But I guess, since it's going like this for years, that Adobe blames apple for removing the option of numeric numbers. I'm attaching an old MacBook keyboard to show you that once it exists. Now, who's to blame? Apple or Adobe?

Seconded. As a laptop based company, very few of us even bother with having a docked full keyboard at our work stations. Even if the num pad requirement was lifted, I find it overbearing to have to do 3 modifiers + 1 key for a shortcut. Further... because I'm always mobile, I don't even use a mouse 99% of the time... so the additional clicks plus tracking over to the panel is a lot.

All I want is the ability to remap things in a more flexible manner. For example, if I want to remap command + I to match the character styling for my body copy's italic styling... so be it. Maybe just give me a notification if it's going to leave a different function without a key binding, as a result.

With Shift+fn+1 you have Shift+Num 1. It works. You don't type anything in there; click on the input field on the right side of the "Shortcut:" and press the actual shortcut you want (for example, if you want ⌘ + 3 you actually press ⌘ and 3 , don't try to type it).

I've seen other people post elsewhere about this same issue and request. As a Mac user with a bluetooth keyboard, I'm unable to establish customizable keyboard shortcuts for paragraph/character styling. The field in the style menus is available, but for some reason it cannot be used without a separate number panel on your keyboard(?). Making this feature accessible for bluetooth keyboard users would surely save on a lot of time with projects with tedious styling.

Any fix soon? I get lots of questions about this from my business...

Right now, you can go in an assign keyboard shortcuts to character styles or paragraph styles only when used with a number pad.

For those of us on laptops predominantly, that means you are never able to assign shortcut keys for a character style. So instead of one set of keystrokes, you end up having to do extra clicks repeatedly when formatting copy.

Expand the ability to create shortcuts to a wider range of key combinations that are laptop friendly.

I'm using an apple desktop w bluetooth keyboard and can't assign them either. Just makes a complaint noise and registers nothing in the "shortcut" field in paragraph styles box when I try to add it. Disappointing.

This is absolutely insane to not allow the shortcut. ADOBE, YOU MUST FIX THIS!
