1. Style Mapping to [Basic Paragraph] doesn’t work with remembered settings or presets

   When you place (import) a Word document into InDesign, you can choose to use Style Mapping to map the paragraph and character styles in Word to their equivalents in your InDesign document. When you use this feature for the first time in a document, the mappings get stored somewhere and are remembered for any subsequent imports you perform in the same document; you can also choose to save your import settings, including Style Mappings, as a preset to use freely in any document.

   If you map any Word styles to the default [Basic Paragraph] style in InDesign, it works as expected the first time (when you actively select [Basic Paragraph] from the dropdown menu). But if you do another import where InDesign reads the Style Mappings from a file – either by using the cached Style Mappings that InDesign has remembered from last time, or by using a saved preset – any style that is mapped to [Basic Paragraph] will not work properly. Instead of mapping the Word style to the existing, built-in [Basic Paragraph], what happens is that a second paragraph style is created with the name [Basic Paragraph], and with properties (font, size, etc.) matching the formatting of the Word style, rather than the built-in [Basic Paragraph] style. This should not even be possible, since you end up with two styles that have the exact same name, but it happens nonetheless (see screenshot).

   In order to avoid this, you have to go into Style Mappings and re-select all instances of [Basic Paragraph] manually. Notably, when you open the Style Mappings window, the mappings all look correct, but when you click on [Basic Paragraph], the dropdown menu doesn’t open like it does normally – the text “[Basic Paragraph]” just disappears and the selection field becomes empty. You then have to click a second time for the dropdown menu to open.

   This bug has been present for several years (unsure how long). It is present in both Windows and Mac versions of InDesign.

   Steps to Reproduce:
   1. Create a Word document and type some text in any paragraph style (the default “Normal” will do)
   2. Create an InDesign document and place the Word file; make sure “Show Import Options” is selected
   3. In the Microsoft Word Import Options window, select “Customise Style Import” and click on “Style Mapping”, then map the style used in the Word document to [Basic Paragraph]; click OK twice and click somewhere in the document to import the text
   4. Place the Word file again in the same way, using the cached Style Mappings which InDesign automatically remembers without changing anything (you can even deselect “Show Import Options” and skip that part entirely)

   Actual Result:
   After the second import, your document has two paragraph styles, both named “[Basic Paragraph]”, see screenshot. One is the built-in default style; the other is an erroneously created doublet and has the little ‘arrow-into-a-box’ icon to show that it is an imported/auto-created style. The text imported the first time is styled with the built-in [Basic Paragraph] style; the text imported the second time is styled with the imported ‘parasitic’ [Basic Paragraph] style.

   Expected Result:
   After the second import, there is only one paragraph style in the document, the built-in [Basic Paragraph] style. All the text in the document, both that imported in the first import and that imported in the second import, is styled with this built-in [Basic Paragraph].

   Any Workarounds:
   Every time you place a Word file, always enter the Style Mapping window and manually reselect [Basic Paragraph] from the dropdown menu for all styles that map to this style. Alternatively, after importing the file, delete the ‘fake’ [Basic Paragraph] style and when asked what to do with the text, select the real [Basic Paragraph] style to replace it.

2. Bug: Table/cell styles don't define cell height and character format

   Indesign CC 2020, v17.1

   The dialog to create a new cell style doesn't have a definition for the cell height (value "At least" / "Exactly") like we find it in the table properties panel. Table styles also don't define cell height and that is all we can use. If you adjust the cell height manually and redefine the cell style, it's also not submitted. So there is no chance to format an entire table just by selecting a table style.

   Next is characters. If there is supposed to be text in a table, that text gotta have a style. Since we want to be able to define different styles for the header row(s) and body, the styles would be nested. Means, a cell style defines the style of the cell, but also of the text by using a character style.

   So, while a table style can define how the different cells shall be filled/stroked it can only format half of the table. Why? Why not make it complete?

3. "Go to endnote reference" (or "text") feature not found in 2018

   "Go to endnote reference," or "text," not present in right click popup window on my version of InDesign 2018, nor is it present under Type Menu. But then this could only be in my application.

4. Menu drop down

   My drop down menus do not work, they will open after double clicking and holding down on second click, but any secondary menus will not open. I'm using Mac OS Monterey 12.4, and InDesign 17.3.

5. Small arrows to adjust the coordinates

   I love the new "Properties" window that adjusts automatically. But I really miss the little arrows next to the x/y coordinates and width/height to be able to adjust the values. Please add them back! :-)

6. crash

   After the opening of the 5° files Indesign Crashes, i have to open a massive number of files. I make a fast check on my PC and the system works with half of the resources available. So i think the problem is not my pc but the program. I have an HPZ240 Tower Workstation. RAM 16GB. Processor Inte(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @4.20GHz and the Hard disk it's an SSD 500gb. The operative sistems it's a Windows 10 pro. The version of the program InDesign build 12.1.0.56 release 2017.1.

   We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

   We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

7. ACTIVETED FONTS I work in file with the text on Gotham HTF

   ACTIVETED FONTS I work in file with the text on Gotham HTF. Book Font (original Apple) is my program for active/disactive fonts. On window (InDesign) Find Font I see that the Gotham HTF Bold is present 2 time, also Gotham HTF Book and Gotham HTF Blasck. But this problem is present only for Gotham, NO for Helvetica Neue Ltd std or ;inion or other fonts.

   Can someone tell me WHY? ... and escuse my badbad english I'm Italian ;)

8. Inaccessible URL Link in preflight panel

   Inaccessible URL link option in Preflight panel is not working after implementing Adobe CC version. It was working in CS5 but in all CC version still CC 2019 is not working.

   For Digital purpose we need this option. I attached screen shot for your reference

   In the attached screen shot there is one dead link it shows red color in Hyperlink window, but the indesign preflight panel shows No Error. If its working properly mean it need to be show error

9. Use Auto-Sizing and Text Wrap Frame on causes application crash

   Environment: InDesign 2020 (15.0.2 Japanese version) + macOS (confirmed with 10.15.3 and 10.14.6)

   • create and connect two text frames
   • set Auto-Sizing "Height and Width" on Text Frame Options
   • Insert text into two frames full
   • overlay graphic frames with Text Wrap settings ON
   • move the graphic frame appropriately (drawing is not normal at this point)
   • close documents with Command + W

   During this operation, you will usually be asked to confirm the save, but suddenly InDesign will end and the application will crash.
   Also, if you try while overwriting with Command + S without Command + W, you may not be able to save eventually.

   This problem does not occur on Windows version.
   As a comparison, the same operation was performed with the English (North America) edition on macOS, but no problem occurred.
   Therefore, it is highly possible that the problem is unique to the Japanese edition.

   Based on internal investigation and customer comments, we have concluded that the issue got fixed in InDesign 15.0.2 and that issue happens with InDesign 15.0.1 version only.

10. Document Fonts Package Between WINDOWS & MAC Not Recognized

    Hello.

    There is a problem when doings packages between Windows & Mac OS : since years when you do a package on an OS through another the fonts saved in the folder "Document Fonts" is not recognized by the OS...

    So we can't open & modify the document when we received a package from Windows when we are on MAC OS or vice-versa.

    So we need the client to supply the fonts one by one which is quite annoying.

11. Nested styles no longer working.

    InDesign 2021

    Used to be able to set a nested style up to or through any specific character (for example a : . Now that option is not working any more. Can only select from the drop down menu. Can work around with a grep style but it's not as easy to get it right.

12. Deleted text reappears when another object is selected

    I copied a set of blocks and replaced the text in them. However, when I select other objects with the cursor, the deleted text reappears in the window where I replaced the text, and disappears when I release the mouse button.

13. text shadow

    I have a text box with Drop Shadow Effect on the text itself. When I edit the text, the shadow does not change. I discovered quite accidentally that Undo (CTRL+Z) then Redo (CTRL+SHIFT+Z) fixes the issue.

    However, when I change the angle of the object (text box), the text moves but the shadow remains in place. I cannot fix it even by adjusting the Effect angle options.

    I have another issue where I have two separate text boxes on the same page with the exact same font and supposed font size, but the text is quite obviously not actually the same size.

    I have ID 16.0.2 x64

    "Entering a discretionary hyphen in a word does guarantee that the word can be broken only where the discretionary hyphen appears."

    When a word contains a discretionary hyphen that falls within the "After First X Letters" or "Before Last X Letters" prohibited zone, InDesign should:
    1. Respect the discretionary hyphen's exclusivity (only break where discretionary hyphen appears)
    2. Refuse to break the word at all since the only allowed break point falls within the prohibited zone
    3. Not apply automatic hyphenation anywhere else in the word

    Actual Behavior

    InDesign ignores the discretionary hyphen when it falls within the prohibited hyphenation zone and applies automatic hyphenation rules instead, breaking the word at algorithmically-determined positions that fall outside the prohibited zone.

    When inDesign is at the top of the screen (i.e maximum screen size), opening the properties panel and then clicking on fill extends the fill sub menu up the screen, rendering half of the sub menu not visible unless you drag the whole application down. I don't think this is intended UI behaviour (hope not), and it's really frustrating to work with.

16. InDesign holds mouse focus

    When using the InDesign CC 2018 (and previously 2017), ID holds the mouse "focus" and doesn't allow me to click in other open windows/programs. I have to right-click, left-click multiple times in another open window before mouse control is released by InDesign. There is no specific time frame after it happens - it can be using program after 5 minutes or 60 minutes.

    I had my machine wiped last week and a fresh install of everything (OS, CC programs, Office suite, etc.), so uninstall/reinstall hasn't fixed the issue.

    Running Window 8.1 on a docked Microsoft Surface attached to two external monitors.

17. hotkeys aren't working

    displaying high quality images
    export file

    The hotkey for both of these features is not working most of the time.

    Also, hitting enter for saving files in the save window isn't working either. But it does work in Illustrator.

18. Footnotes still dropping out

    I'm using 18.1 and still having problems with footnotes dropping out randomly after I export to PDF. This bug has not been fixed, even though it's been a problem since at least 15.1.

19. Ungrouping deletes all items

    Using Adobe InDesign CC up-to-date on a PC running Windows 10.

    1. Ungrouped group of text boxes + image boxes.
    2. All text in boxes disappeared but outlines remained. However in the layers you could see that they were deleted.

    Strangely enough, by deleting a different hidden layer, I could ungroup the group and they would not be deleted.

    Definitely the weirdest InDesign bug I've seen to date.

    Any help would be appreciated!!

20. InDesign hangs for minutes when I/O for Document fonts is slow

    Using version 18.2.1 and opening a document that has an associated "Document fonts" folder alongside, the app performs a lot of I/O on the main thread. If the fonts are on slower storage, the app will open the document, but the window is completely frozen, since all those I/O calls are performed on the main thread.

    Note the attached traces: some calls are even performed twice for the same file. Can the CT calls be moved off the main thread?
