1. Placed vector graphics show as low-resolution previews on export of book to pdf

   In InDesign 14.0.2 on macOS 10.14.6, when an InDesign indd file containing placed vector graphics (PDF or Illustrator files) is part of an InDesign book, and the entire book is exported to PDF, some graphics in the PDF show as low-resolution previews.

   Steps to reproduce the issue:
   Create two or more InDesign files with placed vector PDFs, and save and close them.
   Add these InDesign files to an InDesign Book file.
   Export the Book as a PDF.

   Expected result:
   Placed vector PDFs show as vector graphics in the exported PDF.

   Actual result:
   Some placed vector PDFs show as low-resolution previews in the exported PDF.

   See attached file. Note that in the PDF the bar chart on the second page is a low-resolution preview, even though the file is correctly linked in the source InDesign file. This PDF export was made from the InDesign book file with both InDesign files closed.

2. Oswald Book Font Installed on Windows but doesn't work in InDesign

   I am using InDesign CC 14.0 for Windows 7 and I am having trouble with a font called Oswald. I have 3 fonts from the family Oswald installed on my computer (book, light, and bold). However, Oswald Book does not work in InDesign. It works in Illustrator and Microsoft Word so it appears to be an InDesign issue rather than a font installation issue.

3. [BUG] PDF size is to high using the export feature

   With this post I would like to report an issue regarding the export feature of Adobe Indesign. When exporting a PDF-file from Indesign, the PDF file size is unnecessary to high and the document contains a lot of overhead. After the same pdf-file is resaved using the default Os X preview application, the overhead is removed and the file size is correct. Please fix this issue.

4. Variable Font Custom Weights Not Available

   InDesign 19.1. I recently installed a new variable font from Monotype (https://www.myfonts.com/collections/unitext-variable-font-monotype-imaging). When using the slider to adjust the weight variable, the font breaks and defaults to the regular weight.

   The same font works fine on Illustrator. Other variable fonts on InDesign (e.g. Acumin Variable) also work fine, so the issue seems to be tied to this specific font and InDesign only.

5. Color font printing in muted colors in pdf/print

   There are some issues with the rendering/printing of color-fonts (created with Fontself) in InDesign 2020. This looks like a bug because switching from pdf 1.6 to pdf 1.3 and back to 1.6 in the pdf export dialog-box solves the issue. This isn't an option in our InDesign server setup though. Are there any ideas for a workaround?

6. images pixelated when rotated

   When I place an image into InDesign it imports high res, but when the image is rotated, it becomes severely pixelated. Even when the image rotation is a small degree - just a few degrees even. The image preview becomes distorted severly and changes distortion with every degree of rotation. I should mention that I am a professional graphic designer with over 20 years of experience so I have tried all of the obvious fixes - switched view to "overprint preview", set display performance to "High Quality", deleted preferences.. I have done everything imaginable. Running a machine with 3 GB of RAM so should be fine there... contacted Adobe Customer Support and he could not resolve the issue. Says that he tried it on his end (also with high res images) and he is experiencing the same issue. Said that it is to be expected from the software. We aren't talking about a mild amount of pixelation or distortion here. As soon as you rotate, it gets REAL ugly REAL quick lol. I just refuse to believe that InDesign is that poor at image previewing. There has to be another solution to this. Example shown here is a scanned image, 720ppi - look at the lines under the logo at the top. And this is a flattened JPEG. HELP!!!! I can't be the only one experiencing this.

7. Phantom lines are appearing on export that do show up on print

   Phantom lines around boxes are appearing on export. Some of these are appearing when printed from Nitro Pro. This may be a Nitro Pro issue?

   Can't scroll Pages Window when Export dialogue box is up

   When exporting certain pages from a large document it was handy being able to scroll through the pages window while the export dialogue was open. This was possible on pre CC indesign copies.
   Issue apparent using OSX Mojave 10.14.5 and Indesign CC 14.0.2

   When printing files from InDesign, we are experiencing issues. Random text is appearing bold that is not formatted as bold in the original working file. Also we are experiencing pictures imported that are pdfs as a black block and not showing the imported picture on the printed document. Do you have any recommendations on how this can be resolved? The only way we found to get around the matter is to create a pdf and print from the pdf. This issue has just been happening recently, we’ve never had this issue before.

10. Variable font changes to Italic when a custom axis value is set, without user input. Also, the Italic axis cannot be controlled.

    This may be related to a somewhat similar Illustrator bug:

    Summary:
    1. Variable fonts that have separate but related roman/italic font files are handled badly by InDesign (and Illustrator). In InDesign, if you set a custom axis value such as Weight or Optical Size, the font changes to Italic immediately. This issue occurs in fonts such as Roboto Serif and Apple SF Pro, which are well-tested, popular, and important by many measures. It also occurs in fonts that have internal data that is known to be good, at least as far as FontBakery testing shows. It doesn’t occur in single-font-file variable fonts such as Acumin or Inter, which have built-in "slnt" axes.
    2. As a secondary but related issue, there should actually be an Italic slider or toggle for a variable font, if that axis is specified in the font’s STAT table.

    Version of InDesign: 18.2.1 (latest as of May 25, 2023). Also tested in latest prerelease, v18.4.

    Steps:
    1. Set some type with a font like Roboto Serif [variable].
    2. Open the variable font axes panel, and change an axis like Weight. The font will change to its Italic version, without user input. There is no clear way to change it back to Upright, without selecting a named instance like "SemiBold" – but that largely defeats the purpose of the font being variable.

    Expected result:
    A variable font should be able to have a custom weight value, without snapping to Italic. Likewise, there should actually be an Italic slider or toggle, if that axis is specified in the font’s STAT table.

    Actual result:
    It is impossible to set an upright variable font with a custom weight.

11. High Quality Display Not working

    I have used INDD for about 15 years. Very experienced. but just upgraded it to CC2019 along with Mac OS Mojave 10.14.1. I can no longer see images in high quality (since the upgrades). I have triple checked everything. (image res, all INDD settings etc..) Is this a known issue?

    I'm in InDesign 17.1. File names under Recent Files are overlapping and become illegible. Restarting the device and application doesn't solve this issue.

13. Autoplay Embedded Videos Glitching

    I embedded a number of youtube videos into my indesign file and published online. They are all on different pages and are set to autoplay. They also have "start" and "end" times on them. Everything is working perfectly, except that when I go to view the published document online, the videos randomly start to play when I'm not viewing the pages they are on. I can hear them and not see them, unless I find the page the video is playing from. I've tested this in Chrome and Safari and am running into the issue on both. I would be nice is the videos played only when I am on the page where they are embedded. 14. Tool fly outs appearing on wrong monitor

    I am using a dual monitor setup, my left hand monitor is a standard widescreen monitor, my right hand monitor is a Wacom Cintiq.

    When I have InDesign maximized on the Wacom and attempt to access a fly out menu on the toolbar it opens the fly out menu on the very right-hand edge of the standard monitor. Which makes it impossible for me to select from the fly out menu without having to put down the stylus, switch to a mouse, and repeat the action to bring up the fly out menu and then select the item I wanted. This issue does not occur in Photoshop or illustrator.

    Hello, unfortunately I have this problem too, it constantly uses 30% of the processor when idle, I tried everything, but the problem is completely related to the new indesign versions. Adobe has not made a fix on this issue yet, when will you fix it, Adobe?

    I never experienced this problem in old versions. This problem is valid for 2021-2022-2023-2024 versions.

    I tested by installing all Indesign versions on my computer and found that the only problematic versions were versions 2021 and above.

    From the attached images, you can see the CPU usage of the 2020 version and the 2021 version. 2020 has no problems, but the 2021 version uses high processor idle.

16. Bug in Adobe World-Ready Composer for Kannada Language

    Attached are Adobe Indesign document, Scribus (v1.5.3) document, PDF outputs.

    Fonts used: Hubballi available at https://github.com/erinmclaughlin/Hubballi/blob/master/build/Hubballi-Regular.otf

    Tunga: Available in Windows 10 as part of Kannada language pack.

    Scribus uses "Harfbuzz" text shaping engine. It doesn't any issue shaping Kannada text, except for one case; U+0CCD U+200D which is canonical equivalence of U+200D U+0CCD. Harfbuzz has accepted this bug and will be fixed in the next release. https://github.com/behdad/harfbuzz/issues/435 https://github.com/behdad/harfbuzz/issues/341

    Adobe indesign Adobe World-Ready Composer has lots of bugs with shaping Kannada text.

    Please rectify as soon as possible.

17. InDesign should apply variating substitutions from rclt

    Variable fonts may contain location-dependent substitutions, but the rvrn feature runs too early for many real-world substitutions. The solution in font-making land has been to use the rclt or rlig features instead, but at least the former is not supported by InDesign. This is a major headache for e.g. Arabic.

18. PDF Export issues when INDD contains large EPS file

    Using InDesign CC 2020 ver 15.1.1

    Exporting an INDD file that contains a link to an EPS image that is 26.8MB. The image is used on multiple occasions through out the piece.

    Would expect a PDF on Smallest File Size preset to be smaller than a PDF created at Press Quality preset.

    No special steps reproduce this, simply export to PDF using the presets. Did not adjust the downsampling sizes. But when I did this didn't solve the issue.

    The reality was that exporting a PDF on Press Quality comes out at 37.6MB and on Smallest File Size is 56.3MB.

    I did inform Adobe about this through Twitter and gave them my files to work with. They investigated it and were able to reproduce the issue. They also replied via Twitter that "this behavior exists since CS6. It is reproducible only with documents having heavy EPS links, like the one you shared contains EPS of size 26 MB."

    They also asked me to post here.

    2) Steps to reproduce the issues:
    i) Create a text box with type tool. Enter text.
    ii) Create a text field with "buttons and forms" or insert a picture.
    iii) Anchor text field (or picture) to the end of the text in the text box.
    iv) Drag text box into Articles panel.
    v) Ensure "Include Article" is selected.
    vi) Select "use for reading order in tagged PDF" in Articles panel menu.
    vii) Export to PDF (save as interactive is using the text field).

    3) Expected result:

    Text field (or picture) will be tagged (probably within the P tag)

    4) Actual result:

    Text field (or picture) is not tagged.

    The text field (or picture) only tags if they are not anchored and are placed individually in the articles panel.

    When exporting to tagged PDF without use of the Articles panel, the anchored picture will tag, but the anchored text field will not tag. The text field will only tag if it is not anchored.

20. Smart guides not working at all

    Snap to grid and smart guides or any function where cursor automatically snaps to edge, corner, or center point is not working. I am currently using version 16.0. I have restarted the program 5 times. All of these features are check marked and turned on despite the features not working at all.

    I will not work on my project because of this issue. I need to rely on the precise support of smart guides and snap to guides in order to do what I have to do. I'm very disappointed with this bug and upset I'm set back so much time. I spend a lot on this software. I'm providing pictures to show the functions are turned on but the cursor does not turn pink and snap to center of circle or edge.

    I really need this fixed.
