  1. Selection tool issue in the latest version of InDesign.

    The selection tool now only works to change the size of boxes (text, images), it no longer lets you move the boxes around the page. To move boxes you know have to switch tools to the Free Transform Tool which makes everything more time consuming.

  2. 15.0.2 Margins & Columns Issue on Body Page 1 (Windows only)

    Version: 15.0.2

    Steps to reproduce the issues:
    I was teaching 3 students on 15.0.2 (all on Windows) how to create a new document. We set up a 12-page file and specified 3 columns and changed the top margin in the New Document dialog box. With the preview checkbox on, body page 1 did not reflect the changes. We could see the bleed and slug lines appearing when defined. We could also see the A in the corner of the the body page 1 icon in the Pages panel, indicating that A-Master was assigned.

  3. Two Monitors - UI Window Always Loads Off Screen - Can't Resize Mac OS 14.5

    This has been a bug for at least 5 years with InDesign (see link at the bottom of the post).

    When a Mac user has two monitors, if the primary monitor is situated "lower" than the secondary monitor in a side-by-side configuration in the Display "Arrange" setting (see screenshot, main display is laptop, on right), then the windows will always load slightly off screen, locking the user out of moving them or rearranging them.

    There is a temporary fix to put the main monitor "higher" than the secondary monitor in the horizontal arrangement.

  4. [ID-4260994]The filter in the review panel is automatically changing to "resolved"

    This happens very frequently.

    I will be going through user comments given online in the Indesign Review tab. As I do them I resolve them. This works fine.

    But then suddenly and randomly it will just decide to change my filter to show all resolved! Then all the old issues magically appear in the tab again until I go back to filter and unselect the Resolved button.

    Then it happens again. And again. It happens only when I go to change something in the document but it doesn't seem to matter what type of issue i'm doing. Replacing text.…

  5. Share for Review 'highlight' and 'strike through' issues

    The share for review 'highlight' function and 'strike through' function are not visible in the host's files or the online preview. When one of our designers creates a document and then shares it with the team for review we receive a notification that text has been highlighted. When you navigate to the online preview or to the original indesign working file the notification lives in the share for review box but no text is highlighted so you don't know where the intended edit is.   6. Having problems naming alternate layouts within the pages panel since update to Big Sur

    Problems started after updating to MacOS Big Sur
    Indesign 2021 - (2020 same problem)

    I can't rename the alternate layouts in the PAGES panel when the panel is docked. If the panel is floating free, there is no problem.
    I never had this issue before, it al started after updating to Mac OS Big Sur.

  7. Unable to drag & drop images into Indesign 2021 Open File

    • Set-up a new document
    • Have added text and images as normal.
    • Command + D is successful when placing an image, however, drag & drop does nothing. No image shows in the thumbnail near the cursor either.

    This is an issue as it is much quicker to drag & drop than placing the images from different locations.

    Under certain conditions, the second letter after the opening letter in a word vanishes. This issue affects the appearance and natural flow of the text.

  9. Indesign 2022 (17.1.0.50) IDLK file does not lock

    This problem was recently flagged as resolved, but despite the newest InDesign and MacOS versions it is still possible for two users to open the same Indesign file. We are working on a network volume over SMB and it is possible for my colleague to open the same file I am working with. The *.idlk file was generated by the first user, but it is not recognized by the second Indesign user and sometimes subsequently just disappears.

    I also tried to reproduce this issue with Indesign 2020 but all worked just as expected.

  10. "Insufficient data for an image" error is shown on opening PDF in Acrobat

    We are experiencing issues with exporting to PDF. Hi res PDF Compatibility Acrobat 7 (PDF 1.6).
    The PDF is created normally, but when opening the PDF, it sometimes happens that the image is not displayed on one or more pages. The error message for this specific page is: ERROR: Insufficient data for an image.
    We tried to solve this problem within our team. Eventually, we discovered that the issue did not occur for one of our colleagues. Further investigation revealed that this colleague was still using an older version of InDesign (18.3). The colleagues experiencing problems had automatic updates…

  11. [ID-4218828]InDesign, InCopy: linked copy and image files randomly broken

    We are a group of 16 graphic designers working on Macs. Our OS are varied between Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave. We work in InDesign 14.03 and 15.02 (with linked InCopy assets), Bridge 9.1 and 10.03, Photoshop 20.0.8 and 21.1, and Illustrator 23.1.1 and 24.1. We work on Box Drive and store our layout files and absolute-linked image assets there. It is critical that we are able to work on each others’ files in a high-volume, high-production environment. We don’t believe this is an issue related to our connection speeds.

  12. InDesign CC Server 2018.1 crashes when applying masterSpread to a page

    InDesign CC Server 2018.1 crashes when applying masterSpread to a page.
    The code attached in file "Script.txt" crashes when executing "item.appliedMaster = masterSpread;".
    The file "File.indd" is on which I execute the script.
    I works properly in InDesign CS6 and InDesign CC 2018.1.
    I've been searching on Internet and I couldn't find any issue similar to mine.
    I think it is a bug but maybe I'm missing something prior to execute that sentence.

  13. blank screen when switching displays

    When I have a file open in InDesign 2025 on my MacBook Pro (14-inch, Nov 2023, 15.3.1) and switch between using the built-in display and an external monitor, the document view becomes completely black/blank, though all toolbars remain visible and functional.

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Open a file in InDesign on a MacBook Pro.
    2. Close the MacBook lid, connect to an external monitor, and wake the computer.
    3. The InDesign window stays open, toolbars are visible, but the artwork area is completely blank.
    4. Selecting all (Cmd + A) reveals bounding boxes, but no image or text is visible.

  14. Publish Online feature has issues when viewed in iOS 13

    We are using the "Publish Online" feature inside Adobe Indesign to make some of our content available on our website. We've recently received reports from users with Apple iOS 13 mobile devices that the content is not displaying properly on those types of mobile phones. When the content first opens, if you double tap the page zooms in ok and double tapping again zooms out ok. However, if you try to pinch/zoom, the page blows up very large such that you can only see a couple words and you cannot pinch to get back out. Sometimes double-tapping again takes it…

  15. Publish Online download PDF kills buttons/interactivity

    Steps to reproduce: post a Publish Online document, then click to download a PDF.

    Expected result: all buttons and interactivity would remain.
    Actual result: all buttons disappear and all interactivity is lost. Occurs in both Chrome and Safari, on desktop and handhelds.
    Using ID 13.1 on Mac High Sierra.

  16. Master pages not updating through book synchronize feature

    1. Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server: 14.0.1 x 64
    2. Steps to reproduce the issues: a. Make changes to master page in document. b. Using flyout menu in book document, change Synchronize options to synchronize master pages c. Select synchronize from that menu option or highlight documents and choose the synchronize icon at bottom of book panel
    3. Expected result: Master pages will update to match the master pages of the Style Source document
    4. Actual result: Some master page elements are updated correctly, but others are not.

  17. "Punched-in" values are not properly input. Possible latency issue.

    For example, when punching in numbers to resize an object, the first number will often go ignored.

    Also, when punching in new values for type (Font Size and Leading), when hitting TAB (from Font Size) to punch in a new Leading value, the value will not completely replace the current value if currently an "auto" value if I begin typing immediately. This results in an unwelcomed and unwarranted "invalid numeric value" popup.

    This has been happening ever since I can remember (all CC versions)

  18. InDesign and Acrobat conflict

    I just installed InDesign 2020 15.0. When I try to export a file to PDF I get an error message saying that file is already open, which it is not. Closing Adobe Acrobat and reopening doesn't solve issue, only restarting InDesign does. Hugely inconvenient. I have not been prompted to upgrade Acrobat and I never had that problem with earlier InDesign versions.

    The issue was fixed in InDesign 2020 (v 15.1.2). The fix is also available in the latest release – InDesign 2021.
    Please update to either of these newer versions of InDesign to get the fix.

  19. Can't delete InDesign color swatch

    Documents inherit a swatch from a picked-up file and the swatch can not be deleted.

    1) This problem has existed for us since at least InDesign CS4 and persists through the current CC 2018 build (13.1).

    2) In the attached file, "Select All Unused" in the Swatches panel. There is no content at all in the file. All objects have been deleted, as have all text and object styles. Try to delete the unused process color swatch, "C=80 M=76 Y=70 K=73."

    3) We expect the unused swatch to be deleted.

    4) Trash can icon in Swatches panel is grayed out…

  20. can't see content when opening file, covered with red or black blocks or lines

    Issue started with upgrade to InDesign 16.2.1 that when I open file, content appears blank or covered with red or black blocks or lines. I have to repeatedly resize the window in order to work on the page. I also noticed issues when editing text. It only allows me to edit text that is one or two lines above where the cursor appears—very frustrating!
