Store Export settings along with PDF and update PDF with the same settings
I find it hard to impossible to tell the export settings of a PDF file just from the file. Am I missing where to look? I would like to have
- Write settings as human readable text into the metadata of PDF Files, when they are exported
- Export settings as Export preset, stored along with PDF (as metadata within the file)
- Import the Export Presets by pointing at an existing PDF File (with this metadata available)
- Update any PDF File (given the export settings-metadata are available) with the same settings by pointing to the the File that is to be updated

Publish Online: Sharper elements
InDesign seems to convert vector-based elements (linked eps/AI etc.) in JPGs when I publish online. But that's not sharp. Even with 144dpi (Retina Display …). But text is sharp … Is it possible to have alle the same sharp?! (if not the clients ask: why is the text sharp and these elements not?!) Maybe convert to svg or show a PDF …???

Rework overhead size to reduce pdf file size
Please fix the pdf file sizes created from overhead. For example, I think, this is created when a document has many tables (and cells) in it. I can create a text file, with zero pictures, no pixels, just vectors (the text), and the pdf proof (lowrez) size is huge! It should be about 800k, but it's at almost 10 megabytes! The only way around this is opening the pdf in acrobat and optimizing it to reduce it to the expected 800k size, which, sometimes, leads to text disapearing, but that's another issue.

Bigger preview in Import pdf panel
It is hard to see the PDF preview in the Import PDF panel.
It would be great if you could choose the size of the thumbnail or adjust the size of the entire panel.3 votes -

In Indesign interactive PDF buttons set link destination options for opening the url
In Indesign interactive PDF buttons set link destination options for opening the url
like blank page, self etc...just like in html is possible.
So when you view a interactive PDF online and you click on a link the destination opens in a new window or tab, just like you selected in Indesign. And not only in the window you are viewing.

Convert all Live Captions to Static Captions
I would like the ability to convert all Live Captions to Static Captions. Currently, you can only do one at a time by selecting the caption, and selecting the menu item to convert (or create a hotkey).
When working with a long document with a lot of images, you can't use character styles with Live Captions. But once you convert to static captions, paragraph styles can then call character styles (nested, GREP). If you have a long book or catalog with a lot of images that rely on up-to-date captions, but then require character styles (for example, an image from…

Retain hyperlinks within imported PDF files and export PDF file from InDesign
With many publications hosted online, we receive a lot of adverts containing hyperlinks as advertisers embrace the fact that specific web pages, websites, YouTube videos, Podcasts, email, social media and more can be embedded. Unfortunately, InDesign only see PDF files as image objects; therefore, hyperlinks are lost when the artwork is exported as a new PDF.
We currently patch transparent objects over the artwork, select text, then copy and paste to apply links to ensure all are seen after the PDF has been exported from our InDesign file.
To retain imported links with PDF files would be a huge…

PDF export profiles shall store all settings
Until now, coming from CS2, Indesign was not able to store the security settings in a PDF export profile. Every time when exporting a PDF I have to set these settings manually, plus the password. I know I could do that in Acrobat with an action, but that's only worth doing when exporting more than two files at once. The same PDF profiles could also be used by Distiller when converting EPS to PDF by drag 'n drop, so the target PDF would always be password protected. I call this automation.

Multi-page PDF use in InDesign
When placing a multi-page PDF into an InDesign document - it would save so much time if it were possible to then scroll through the pages in that PDF and select the desired page from within InDesign.
3 votesThis feature already exists. As mentioned by David and Bastia, you can turn on the “Show Import Options” from the Place dialog. Following which a dialog which can help you chose the page that you want and how many of the pages you want to place in InDesign.

Add ability to export PDF as imposed spreads
It would be SO helpful to be able to export a PDF of a print layout as imposed spreads... the software already knows how to impose spreads in the Print Booklet feature, but if users could also export PDFs this way it would save a lot of time. I don't need to impose spreads often, but when I do it's a real time suck.
