Bug: copying text set to French between documents changes language
Windows 11, Indesign 20.1
Problem description: I have six documents, two in German, two in English, two in French. In all six is a paragraph with the same name, but the language setting is according to the document language. Means, the style is set to French (for spelling checker) in the french documents. When copying text by copy & paste from one french document to the others, the language setting of that text in the target document changes to German. This doesn't happen when copying english text from an english document to the other english document, same with the…1 vote -
Absurd translation of the word "spread" in Czech UI
Please correct the absurd translation of the “spread” on the Effects window. In this context, you cannot translate it as “dvojstránky” (= two pages) but rather “rozšíření” – in InDesign CS6 the translation is correct.
Please note that in some languages one word can have multiple meanings. For example, in Czech we have one word for month and moon. The words are not interchangeable, you can’t say “the moon of July” in English. But this is exactly how you translate the aformentioned expression!
It is the same with the word spread in English, it has multiple meanings and cannot…

Would like to know if we should go ahead & make this change.
Pl. let us know.

Selecting 'No language' from styles advanced options really exports the tag to EN in PDF
When you have a document with multiple languages and the main language isn't available in InDesign's presets, ie the document is mainly in Kirundi or Samoan and there are some English phrases, a user should be able to select 'No language' from the style's advanced options. Instead, 'No language' will export as EN and the tag in the PDF will have EN listed as the language in the tag's properties. This is problematic because the tag's language will override the document's language properties. This is a clear failure of WCAG SC 3.1.2 (language of parts).
A screen reader won't be…

Spell check for Mandarin Chinese
I would like InDesign and other products to recognize that I am typing in Chinese. A spell check would also be helpful. Currently, it assumes English UK, no matter what I type. (I'm actually using English USA and sometimes Chinese for clients.)

Drop Cap size, is based on next character
Indesign 2023 Hebrew Version
Macbook Pro M1When i create a drop cap, the size of the drop cap is changing based on the next character after the drop cap, it only happens when the leading is fixed, when the leading is auto, it just moves up and down based on the size of the next character.
As you can see in the attached images, both paragraphs have the same style but when i change the size of the character after the drop cap the size or the leading of the drop cap changes2 votes -
Perplexed translation – Czech version of InDesign CC
Hello, please correct Czech UI of InDesign CC - InDesign preferences, Text panel, first line:
InDesign CS6: "Používat typografické uvozovky" (it is correct, it means "Use typographic quotation marks", the grammar form is consistent with UI)
InDesign CC2020: "Použijte Typographer’s & Quotes" (it means nothing, it is a mixture of Czech and English words, the grammar form is not consistent with UI because it is using the imperative form instead of the infinitive). The closest translation to English would be "Use typografovy a uvozovky!"

Spell Check keeps defaulting to Polish.
I need to spell check my document but none of the words are in the dictionary. The spell check dictionary keeps defaulting to Polish even when I change it to English. I have set it as English US in every place I can find but it keeps defaulting to Polish for spell check.
Help.

Arabic
Using Adobe Arabic font, and paragraph set to Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer, when I copy in Arabic with a period at the end of the sentence, InDesign is interpreting the period as Roman/English text and placing it to the far right of the sentence, instead of at the end of the sentence (far left).
This is new since I last worked in these files in March of this year.

UK spell check not recognising US spellings as incorrect
UK spell check not recognising US spellings as incorrect.
e.g the word 'customize' appears in the story. In UK English this would be 'customise'. The spell checker should recognise this as incorrect, but does not.
Spell check language has been set to UK English.

OpenType All Small Caps disappear when switching dictionary to German
I have a text that uses the OpenType feature “All Small Caps” in a lot of places. It is currently set to use the English USA dictionary. I am working on translating this text into German, and so I want to use the German dictionary for it. When I try this, all instances of All Small Caps turn to regular lower-case letters. I tried a couple of different dictionaries, some (e.g. other English and Dutch) will retain the SC and others (e.g. None) will make them disappear.

Changing language setting of paragraph text causes turnovers to change
Indesign Version 16.1 Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Given some random body text, the default language setting was English: USA, if I want to change this to any other language like English: UK (for spell checking reasons) it causes the turnovers of certain paragraphs to change.
Different fonts do the same thing, I primarily tested on a non-type 1 version of Melior and Helvetica but also tried some Adobe Fonts. However, different language settings cause different bits of text to change their turnover, ergo English: USA has different turnovers to English: USA Legal.
Changing this setting in…

Correct but wrong German translation for Review Panel
The German translation for »Share for Review« is »Für Review freigeben«. I do not understand why you kept the »Review« in English, but that's not my point here and could be discussed somewhere else.
There is the Review panel, which can be opened via Window > Comments > Review. In German it should be named »Review« as well, because you did not rename the functionality. Right?
But, hey, the panels name ist »Überprüfen«. Correct translation, but inconsistent, as you might agree to me.
So please, change »Überprüfen« to »Review« or change »Review« everywhere else to »Überprüfen«.

Mixed usage Left-to-right and Right-to-left text in the same paragraph
Ms Word files can contain Right-To-Left and Left-To-Right text in the same paragraph. When copy/pasting the text into Indesign, only one of the 2 textdirections is displayed correctly.
Creating the text frame which uses the Right-to-Left text direction, and using the World Ready composer, the corresponding text is displayed well. Inline phrases in English, are displayed wrong. Changing the composer to regular Single line composer fixes the English phrases, but messes up the foreign language.
When using different paragraphs, each with the corresponding composer, all works well. When a combination is used in a single paragraph, it can't be…
