1. Embedded PDF/AI images causes documents created from IDMLs to double in size

   File size almost doubles when exporting an INDD document to IDML and then re-save it as an INDD if it has embedded PDF or AI images.

   Create a new InDesign document.
   Place a PDF/AI image in it.
   Embed the image in the InDesign file.
   Save the InDesign file.
   Export the InDesign file to IDML.
   Open the IDML and save it as an INDD document.

   The resulting INDD document will have a file size of almost double the size of the original INDD document. This affects all versions of InDesign (CS6-CC2019) and embedded PDFs created in different applications (Illustrator, Acrobat, Preview).

   If this is caused by an extra preview of the image being attached to the INDD document, there should at least be an option to "trim" the INDD document.

   Attached are three test documents: original, IDML and the resulting INDD document.

2. Object style size property crashes InDesign when used with Libraries

   I have recreated this bug on both Mac and PC InDesign 13.0

   1. Create a text box
   2. Insert a table with any number of table cells
   3. Draw a rectangle anywhere
   4. Create a new Object Style and set Size and Position Options -> Size -> Adjust: to Height Only
   5. Apply the Object Style to the rectangle
   6. Cut and past the rectangle into one of the cells of the table
   7. Create a new Library file
   8. Drag the text box into the Library
   9. Try drag the Library item back out onto the page... It should crash.

   This has become very problematic for us because we use the Libraries a lot for commonly used table designs. We are having to avoid the new Size Options in Object Styles. It seemed like a good feature that we had been waiting for... But not working for us yet.

   I have attached a Library file with an item that will crash InDesign 13

3. Data Merge – PDF-Image Error

   Hi there
   We have the alarming situation, that we did some data merge with a bill in it which is set up as a image (PDF). We did a PDF for the costumer to check the personalization.
   Afterwards we did made the PDF for printing.
   Thats were the problem started, because the PDF of the bill was getting importet wrong. in the firstplace we imported the PDF with the Mediabox but since we edited some other files and placed some other PDF with trimbox the setting was saved in the indd presets and on the data merge we got the situation that on exporting the PDF the MediaBox was changed to the Cropbox, and so the pdf was getting enlarged to cover the same space as the PDF did. so some information got cropped by the Printing size.

   it can’t be that the importing option of a already placed PDF is changed. this is really dangerous!

   Tested on INDD V18.5 and V19.0

4. packaged files not preserving paths

   In latest release of Adobe InDesign 16.2.1 for Mac 10.14.6, an issue occurred when updating a file PACKAGED from an earlier version of InDesign.

   Issue was:
   Document contained tifs and jpgs that contained work paths. In original document, work paths had been used to clip the images.
   However, when document was PACKAGED and then opened in ID16.2.1, the paths have not been preserved. They are still in the photoshop file and can be updated by replacing or relinking the image and showing image options to apply the path information, but this is potentially a catastrophic issue for providers like ourselves who have never seen the artwork before and have no point of comparision between clients expectations vs how the file opened on our machines.

   Worth noting that files were packaged with IDML files that did not feature this bug.

   Another issue complicating matters was that the packaged file that we received (not necessarily packaged like this) had an .idlk file supplied as well, so may be original operator error.

   1.     Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server : InDesign CC 2020 15.0.3 / 15.1.1 (Korean)

   2.     Steps to reproduce the issues : Text deformation, image mislocation, text warp errors occurred when Myanmar (Burmese) Unicode text is used in InDesign CC 2020 version. 6. Easier automatic page numbering

   Make it easier to create automatic page numbering in InDesign. I would not have remembered to select the text frame, then navigate to TYPE > INSERT SPECIAL CHARACTERS > MARKERS > CURRENT PAGE NUMBER if it weren't for Google. This feature should not be an obscure tool, and should not be buried in panels. I feel like this feature should at least be in the Master Page Panel's drop down options (from the hamburger).

7. Choosing a link's page or layer right in the links panel

   I would love to be able to change the page of my links without having to replace the file and select the page through import options. I use a lot of nested indesign files where I'm duping up business cards with multiple sides. It gets timely when I have 4 sides and I have to replace them all 8 times. Keep it in mind guys! You're doing an awesome job! I <3 adobe people!

8. Glitching and Lagging

   Mac OS Sonoma 14.2.1 (as well as previous release)
   InDesign 19.01 (as well as previous releases)
   Apple M1 Max

   InDesign (and Illustrator) have become infuriating to use. All graphics and text are constantly glitching when scrolling or zooming. When selecting an element for some reason there is a lag where it things that I am clicking and dragging the element cause it to move. Sometimes it moves a pixel or get thrown across the page.

   I have tried the following
   In Preferences,
   Disabled Animated Zoom to no effect.
   Disabled GPU Performance to no effect.
   Changed Both Display Performance options to Fast, to no effect.
   I have reinstalled InDesign, to no effect.
   I have uninstalled all of Creative Cloud (including apps) ran the clean up application and then reinstalled, to no effect.
   I completely wiped and reinstalled a fresh copy of Mac OS, Installed Creative Cloud and InDesign only and still had the issue.

   Ive had this issue for at least a month but the bug reporting process is so dogshit I figured someone else would report it. I guess not.

9. Missing glyphs in a Right-to-Left Paragraph direction

   1. InDesign Middle Eastern Version 18.4.0.56

   2. Steps to reproduce the issues:
      a. In Preferences>Composition>Highlight, turn on Highlight for missing glyphs.
      b. Type in a text box open and closing parenthesis.
      c. Toggle between Right-to-Left and Left-to-Right Paragraph direction.

   3. Expected result: Missing glyphs should not be affected by paragraph direction.

   4. Actual result: When the direction becomes Right-to-Left the parenthesis are highlights as missing glyphs.

   Additional Information:
   If you type one Hebrew letter before and after the parenthesis, the parenthesis will be highlighted with missing glyphs also on Left to Right Paragraph direction.

   I tried with various fonts, all behave the same. Today was the first time I noticed it. It happened with a document that I edit all the time (and also a new one I created to test it) when I selected a different paragraph style. I then got a message that there are missing glyphs. I turned on the highlight option and suddenly I notices that all my parenthesis are highlighted in yellow for missing glyphs. I believe it is a bug of the latest version.

10. Un-asked for CC Adobe applications running in stealth mode continually bring my Mac to a complete stop for seconds at a time.

    Please stop loading my 2009 MacPro / Yosemite / 20GB RAM with stealth Adobe apps that make my computer impossible to use.

    I do not need TypeKit, I do not need any of this stuff you force me to have running in the background when I have CC InDesign running. Your apps are killing my productivity, not "enhancing" it.

    I am a book designer, I don't use much of your fancy stuff. The only way I can get any work done is to open my clients' files in CC, save the IDML, then quit the CC version and go back to using my perfectly useable CS6 InDesign.

    I see no reason to attach a file. I've been using Adobe applications since Illustrator 88 and am one of your most-experienced users. My files are not causing any problems. The problem is the stealth apps that show up in my Mac's Activity Monitor. Once I quit the CC InDesign version (I've installed 2014 and 2017) and restart the Mac, your problematical stealth apps do not reappear... until I boot CC2014 or CC2017 again. Please give us the option of turning off these stealth applications! I beg of you! Please listen! Please!

    This issue is not related to InDesign per se. It is generic with Adobe applications. Users are asking not to load services like Typekit, etc while working on Adobe apps as this is slowing them down.

11. postscript file

    Print dialog set to print 3 x 3 thumbnails. I selected Postscript File in the Printer menu, and it blocked the thumbnails options. I saved the .ps file, but it was not usable:

    When the file was converted [whether with Acrobat Distiller or Preview], the layout was for a vertical page layout, with the right page of each spread cut off.

    Question: How can I create a usable Postscript or PDF file for thumbnails?

13. Paint and lines disappear

    Phenomenon
    Fill and line disappears when copying an object.

    Reproduction procedure
    1. Select an object with fill and line to surround it with the direct selection tool.
    2. Grab the anchor point and copy by option+drag.
    3. The object without fill or line is copied.

    The same result can be obtained by selecting an object to enclose with the direct selection tool, and then copying with the Object menu > Transform > Move.
    If you select an object by clicking directly on the fill area without surrounding it with the direct selection tool, the fill and lines are copied as they were (expected result).

    I would like the original object to be copied as is, just like in Illustrator.

    The circle that appears around the cursor is due to a utility and is displayed when clicking.
    The fact that nothing is displayed in the middle of a drag copy is probably a problem with the screen recording function.

14. ID crashes when call method "createHyperlinkQRCode" on Rectangle from "afterOpen" event handler

    ID 18.1 Windows 10

    I'm trying to develop a script that updates the QR code (creates anew in the same Rectangle ) when the document is opened.

    The Startup Script sets the event handler of the "afterOpen" event, where the "createHyperlinkQRCode" method is called on the found Rectangle object.

    In this case, InDesign crashes with an error

    Creating a QR code manually through the main menu does not cause errors. The error does not occur when the script calls the "createHyperlinkQRCode" method on the Document object. But in this case, I have to point with the cursor to the place of inserting the QR code, and this creates an unnecessary waste of time.

    If the script is called from the script panel, it works without errors, which indicates that there are no errors in the script.

    I tried the following layouts (they cause the same error and crash InDesign):
    (1) Preferred option. Call the QR code creation method directly in the "afterOpen" event handler.
    (2) I extended the Rectangle object with an additional method that is called in the "afterOpen" event handler.
    (3) I made a separate script that can be run manually. It works if I run it manually. And crashes if I call this script in the "afterOpen" event handler using doScript().

15. 23.0.3 Adobe PDF Preset / Transparency Flattener Preset "Convert Text To Outlines" Not Working

    In all previous versions of Illustrator and InDesign, when saving a PDF, I have been able to set my PDF settings to convert all text to outlines by checking "Convert All Text To Outlines" in my Adobe PDF preset. Since my recent update to 23.0.3, this feature is no longer working properly. The setting is still an option, however, upon save/export of the PDF, text is not converted to outlines as it previously was.

    I have reached out to customer support for this issue and have been informed that this issue is "expected behavior of the software".

    How is this issue considered “expected behavior” when:

    1) Setting Adobe PDF presets and Transparency Flattener presets to "convert text to outlines" is a feature of the software
    2) It has worked flawlessly in ALL previous versions of Illustrator and InDesign

    This is a pretty common practice that designers use when creating print documents. Most printers require all text to be outlines when receiving project files. It is very time consuming to manually change all text to outlines when you're working with a 100+ page project file. This feature, which I and countless others use on a daily basis, prevents the error of accidentally saving over a working file as well as saving time when preparing documents for print.

    If this feature (which is still showing as a feature in the current version) has been removed, I deeply implore you to bring this feature back.

    In all previous versions of Illustrator and InDesign, when saving a PDF, I have been able to set my PDF settings to convert all text to outlines by checking "Convert All Text To Outlines" in my Adobe PDF preset. Since my recent update to 23.0.3, this feature is no longer working properly. The setting is still an option, however, upon save/export of the PDF, text is not converted to outlines as it previously was.

    I have reached out to customer support for this issue and have been informed that this issue is "expected behavior of the software".

16. Alt Text (Accessibility) not exported to ePub

    1. ID, Version 20.4.1.
    2. Steps: Layout ID document with images. Add Alt Text to images under IPTC Core/Alt Text (Accessibility) in Bridge. Place images in ID. Check for Alt Text under Object/Object Export Options/Alt Text. Alt Text is there under From XCP: Alt Text (Accessibility). Export document to reflowable ePub.
    3. Expected result: Check html. Alt Text appears in the alt tags (alt="").
    4. Actual result: alt tags are empty.

17. Auto tag XML Broken

    1) InDesign 19.5 Swedish version
    2) Create a new empty document, add some pictures, draw a text frame and insert a table, choose "Add untagged items" (or whatever the English wording is, in Swedish it is "Lägg till objekt utan märkord")
    3) PageItems should be tagged with the Tags choosen in Tagging options (Artikel, Tabell, Cell, Bild in Swedish, Article, Table, Cell, Image, in English)
    4) Items are wrongly added with "Figure" tag

18. version 17.0 while launching shows blank black screen

    Screen gets stuck on black screen and no option comes up.

    InDesign version 16.0 works fine.
    Tried reinstalling the app but shows same issue.

19. Adobe PDR printer settings option missing

    Hello dear Adobe team,
    my problem is as following: When printing Booklet in my custom settings I am missing Adobe PDF printer option. I cant even install Adobe printer from control panel as suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/add-pdf-printer-manually.html because there is no Adobe PDF option in "Use existing port" option. Could you please help me with this? I am also adding a few screenshots of the problem.

20. object style override plus-sign when multiple elements selected

    Object style made. Works fine.
    Multiple items on page need same style. When applied to ONE item, styles menu looks "normal." When applied to multiple items, with items selected, the styles menu shows plus-sign after style name.
    All of "clear overrides" options tried. Does not fix. Cannot verify that use of style is correct if styles panel gives false feedback.
    In the past, earlier versions, I don't remember ever seeing this apparent conflict.
    MacOS 11.5.2
    InDesign 17.0.1
