Adobe InDesign v18.1 is not saving file previews.
Updated to v18.1 and file previews are no longer visible in the finder. Mac OS 12.6.1

This is clearly a bug. I've wasted quite a bit of time trying to get Adobe to recognize it. I — along with everyone else — has tried literally everything ever suggested INCLUDING new documents, dirty saves, saving to alternate folders, AND using a clean user account. I've also, of course, uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the preferences multiple times. I've toggled the "save preview" box off and on and tried every permutation of the options. The previews do not show up in 18.1 on Mac OS 12.6.5 in the finder windows. Does anyone have an actual fix for this? Will anyone from Adobe accept this is a real thing, acknowledge the bug, and then do something about it?

I finally discovered that my layer was somehow made into a template layer, and moving my objects to a normal layer solved the issue - check if this is the case for you.

This has NEVER worked for me and I need for my manager to be able to preview INDD files so she can tell which file contains the job she needs. Otherwise she gives me a list of file numbers and names and I have to go through and open each one, save as a PDF so she can determine which file is which.
Can confirm preferences are set to save previews. I've even (on the advice of the InDesign Secrets forum) Opened INDD with no documents open. Deselected save previews. Closed INDD, Opened, Reselected save previews, Closed INDD again, then reopened it. I've done the dirty save. NO Joy.
Before this I used to just see the INDD purple icon, but noticed today that I now see a white box with instructions. Figured I'd follow them. Still, no preview.

Same issue here. Running 18.1, Monterey 12.6.
Indd. preferences are correct.
No previews at all, not even older jobs saved in earlier versions that used to have previews.

I am having the same problem.
I am on Mac OS 12.3 running InDesign 18.1 and I am not getting any preview images on any of my files. I have tried turning off the always save preview images, restarting and then turning it back on and restarting and the issue persists.

I am also having the same issue.
Can confirm I have also selected "Always Save Preview images with Documents". Have also tried a DIRTY SAVE. Have tried multiple re-starts/shut downs, creating new documents and editing existing documents.

Hello Randy_CG
Can you please once confirm your preference settings of saving the doc preview ? (Preferences > File Handling > Always Save Preview Images with Documents)
The checkbox should be checked. Click Ok to save the settings. If the issue still persists, try a DIRTY SAVE on the indd document (Dirty saving a document refer to performing a small modification on an indd document until you see star mark before the document name and then resave the document).
Do reach out to us, in case doc preview is still not shown.
