1. OSX Sierra/Adobe InDesign CC 2017.1 crashes when using fonts and high-resolution images

   1. Indesign CC 2017.1/Mac OS Sierra 2. 3. 4. We are using various Hindi fonts on the mac and designing .indd files, intermittently we encounter crashing with certain Hindi fonts. Only one font has shown stable where we encounter no issues. Also images are coming as thumbnails at first, once it is the full high res-image that is imported the program crashes. 5.    To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

   We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

   We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

3. Acrobat extension for Chrome renders sheared rectangles incorrectly in PDF exported from InDesign CC 2022 / 24

   Filled sheared rectangles in PDF documents exported from InDesign are rendered incorrectly in the Adobe Acrobat extension for Chrome, but displays as expected in other PDF readers [ Preview, Safari, Quickview, etc. ]. The sheared rectangles are displayed as a box of the fill colour with the outer bounds of the sheared shape. Adding a stroke suggests the sheared rectangle is preserved, but is not honoured by the fill.

   Work around: Adding an additional anchor point, or rounding the corners, appears to correct this issue.

4. # in URLs of Hyperlinks in Hyperlinks panel is substituted with %23 when opened in browser from panel

   Hi together,
   when working with hyperlinks with URL destination an URL like:

   https://wiki.selfhtml.org/wiki/HTML/Elemente/a#Siehe_auch

   will not be transferred to the browser as is when the menu command "Go to Destination" is used or if the "green" bullet in the panel is clicked that indicates a correct and connectable hyperlink destination.

   Instead character # will be substituted with %23 like that:

   https://wiki.selfhtml.org/wiki/HTML/Elemente/a%23Siehe_auch

   The implication could be two-fold:
   [1] The browser could show an 404 error
   [2] The browser could not navigate to the named anchor and the view of the page is showing the top part of the page.

   The URL above will show error [2].
   This URL will show a 404 error:

   For the first error, the 404, I included screenshots and a sample InDesign document from InDesign 2023:

5. Keyboard Shortcuts dont work often with InDesign

   Using windows 10 - InDesign 2020

   Keyboard shortcuts often will not work, forcing me to minimize or restart the program to get them to work again. Very annoying.

   shortcuts that I am using for example( W to enter workspace mode, Ctrl-Z for undoing and even Ctrl-S to save)

   Adobe, stop adding features until you fix the issues that are present. especially ones that have been around for years or months.

6. Copy/Paste of image/graphic blocks very slow

   Adobe InDesign CC 13.1 on Sierra
   The copy and paste of graphic blocks in the same doc is very slow. When there is not a large number of links, it is pretty ok BUT when adding a lot of new picture links, the wheel keeps turning during ca. 10/15 seconds after each copy and paste of a graphic block also.

   The temporary solution is to change the name of the image folder so to disable the dynamic links to pictures. But not ideal.

7. Can't save

   This is so frustrating. Why cant i save? 3rd time its happpened, try to save my file when i need to quit and come back to the file later and cant save. Force quit is the only option. Never had this problem when using InDesign Creative Suite (non-cloud version). What the ****, Adobe?

8. Recurring connectivity issue with InDesign

   Hi Support Team,

   We are experiencing a recurring connectivity issue with Adobe InDesign. The same error message has appeared again, and I’m unable to open the program. My internet connection seems to be working properly, so I don’t believe that’s the cause of the problem.

   My Adobe membership/subscription is still active, and all other Adobe applications are functioning normally. This suggests that the issue isn’t related to the license itself.

   Could you please advise on what might be causing this and how to resolve it?

   First logout from your creative cloud client, reboot your computer (cold boot) and then login with your Adobe ID again.

   If this doesn't help try to reset the CC app by following the steps below:

   Bring the CC app in the foreground the press:

   • Win: Ctrl + Alt + R
   • Mac: Cmd + Opt + R

   If this doeswn't help try the steps below:

   • Sign out from the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application (Sign in and sign out to activate Creative Cloud apps)
   • Browse to the location: [System Drive]:\ProgramData\Adobe
   • Rename the 'SLStore' folder to 'SLStore_old'
   • Browse to the location: [System Drive]:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
   • Rename the 'SLCache' folder to 'SLCache_old'
   • Sign in to the Adobe CC desktop app

   You may also try below steps:

   Close all Adobe apps and make sure no Adobe processes are running in Task Manager.

   1. Make sure that Hosts file does not contains Adobe URL entries with Loop back address 127.0.0.1 .
   2. Press Windows button (located between Ctrl and Alt buttons) along with R button together at a time , you will get a run command window.

   • Type in "Appdata" hit 'Enter' key.
   • It will open Appdata folder.
   • Then navigate to Local>Adobe>OOBE. Open OOBE folder and delete " Opm.db" file.

   Once you had deleted Opm.db file , Sign in to Adobe Creative Cloud app using Valid Email ID and check.

   If this fails the next step is to try a repair of the CC client. See here: Adobe app installation stuck

   If this also doesn't help the nest step is to uninstall/reinstall per linked document above.

9. Indesign 14.0.1 pixellated output in export to PDF

   Indesign 14.0.1
   Export to PDF using press quality job option does not produce high quality images the way the previous version used to do and all ends up pixellated at screen resolution only. The only way I know of producing press ready files is now to "package book for print", in which case, if you select your usual press ready PDF option, the conversion definitely works.

10. Edit Original not working

    After a clean install of Adobe CC NONE of my preferences pulls through from the cloud!! But I could have expected this from Adobe.....
    Working in InDesign and wanting to edit a PSD file that is used as a background, in the Links panel, I would select "Edit Original" - You would think Adobe is smart enough to actually set Photoshop as the default editor but as a user I have to manually go and assign a editor to each file type!?!?!?!?! HOW PATHETIC!

12. Arabic Support Was Suddenly Removed

    My default install language is English with Arabic support. InDesign was working normally until I changed a preference setting (disabled Hindi Digits) in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. It was the only change I recently made to any Adobe-related app. I had to reinstall the app to fix the issue.

14. Activating Font

    My Indesign will randomly start trying to activate source sans pro fonts and will not ever finish activating. I can't cancel it, I can't go online to adobe fonts and decative and then active because it says there is a conflict. Because it's syncing it won't export any of my files until it's done ... and it's never done. The only way I get it to work is to force quit Indesign and it will work until it randomly starts trying to activate it again and the cycle repeats.

15. WorldReady settings go missing in [Basic Paragraph] style

    Adobe InDesign (ME) 2021, 2020, CC 2019, ..., CS6
    macOS and Windows

    InDesign's WorldReady settings (Paragraph Direction, Kashidas, etc.) are being stripped from a document's [No Paragraph Style] style when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in (like Em Software's InCatalog). This appears to happen with any 3rd-party plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's lower than the WorldReady plug-in's prefix. While the following steps use the Middle Eastern app (English Arabic), where there's a UI to see the style's empty/blank WorldReady entries, we've confirmed that this problem affects all app variants (including English (Roman)).

    To reproduce:
    1. Install ME version of InDesign 2021 (English Arabic).
    2. Install Em Software's InCatalog plug-in (http://emsoftware.com/products/emcatalog/ ) or any plug-in that adds a text attribute with a prefix ID below that of WorldReady's 0x50f00. (The SDK's BasicTextAdornment sample will work if its kBscTAPrefixNumber is changed to something like 0x43a00.)
    3. Restart InDesign while holding down Shift-Control-Option/Alt (to ensure the session workspace's [Basic Paragraph] style is rebuilt to include the new plug-in's text attribute).
    4. Create a new document and add a text frame containing a few paragraphs using the [Basic Paragraph] style. This text should compose as right-to-left (the ME version's default direction, as specified by WorldReady's kParagraphDirAttrBoss). Create a numbered list, since that's a great way to see the problem.
    5. Save the document.
    6. Quit InDesign.
    7. Remove InCatalog (or whatever plug-in was installed in step 2).
    8. Restart InDesign.
    9. Open the document that was saved in step 5.

    Alternatively:
    1. Install ME version of InDesign 2021 (English Arabic).
    2. Restart InDesign while holding down Shift-Control-Option/Alt (to ensure a clean session workspace)
    3. Open the attached SavedWithInCat(2021ME).indd file. (Well, UserVoice won't let me upload it. Ask & I can send directly.)

    Notice that the text frame in the opened document incorrectly flows left-to-right and the numbered list's numbers wrongly show on the left rather than the right. Edit the [Basic Paragraph] style and note that the WorldReady settings in the Middle East Character Formats and Indents and Spacing panels are blank/empty. (See attached before-after screenshots.) One would expect a style to survive intact even when opened on a machine with a missing 3rd-party plug-in, but instead some of its settings may be at risk of being lost.

    We've used WorldReady as the victim here, but this problem affects any plug-in, Adobe or 3rd party, that adds a text attribute with a prefix that's higher than the missing plug-in's prefix (such as Em Software's InData).

    Details: We've isolated what looks like a long-standing problem (bug?) with the SDK's AttributeBossList::CopyInto(), where it stops the copy when it encounters an attribute whose plug-in is missing. Instead, the copy should continue after the missing plug-in's entry order to produce a complete list of non-missing attributes. Copies produced by AttributeBossList's Duplicate(), ApplyAttributes(), and its copy-constructor are all affected.

16. command and option keys stop working

    Several times a day my command and option keys stop working in Adobe products. Only logging out will briefly fix the problem.

    There doesn't seem to be any clear fixes for this online. Any ideas?

18. Workspace not showing at startup (indesign 2020 v 15.0.2)

    Issue with the workspace not loading or not showing at startup. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Today i tried opening photoshop first and then after that indesign opened correctly. Adobe claimed to have this issue resolved by version 14.0.3. That means either it has never been resolved or it returned in this version.

19. InDesign makes incorrect QR code words and we can't decode QR codes correctly.

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Object->Make QR Code...
    2. Input strings "問題は日本語を正常に扱えるかどうか。".
    3. Result QR Code is incorrect.

    Actual Result:
    Sometimes, we got the wrong code in Japanese locale.

    Any Workarounds:
    Here is Japanese character strings "問題は日本語を正常に扱えるかどうか。".
    This was coded into the InDesign try and get "image1.png".
    Then, we try to decode it at ZXING decoder. Here is a decoded result (image2.png)

    The top has been encoded in the beginning have you because of 8-bit byte mode from the head with a "0x4". Then, the character codes are used here is UTF-8. Until "... 正常に扱" it has been encoded successfully. But it can not be decoded completely normal the next "え"(12th character) or later.
    In fact, this string is a mode change in a 35 byte. And, now, the used is "0x8" So KANJI Mode. Subsequent bytes will be the number of characters. "0xa" So 10 characters. And compressed into one character 13bit in this mode. Actual rest of the string is "えるかどうか。" 7 is the letter does not match the number of fundamental places because. The code itself will be inferred from the simple result of decoding.A byte sequence that has been obtained is decoded as SJIS but UTF-8 has over encoded as it is. The character code must perform the encoding by converting to SJIS from KANJI Mode. 7 is why this in a letter 21 bytes because it is each of the three-byte count of and 10 characters to compress the two-byte set to 13bit come out.
    A decoder is handled by SJIS because of KANJI Mode. So characters are garbled.

    KANJI Mode makes incorrect code words in InDesign and why mode change in a 35 byte?
    In case of "問題は日本語を正常に扱えるかどうか。" all characters are non-Ascii code range and all characters in SJIS code range. It must be encoded KANJI Mode if using KANJI Mod.
    However, I think it is better to encode 8bit byte mode with UTF-8 all characters.

    I recommend discarding KANJI MODE. I think all characters to be encoded 8bit byte mode with UTF-8 characters is the better way.

    We have fixed the issue in the latest version of InDesign, Id 14.0.3

    Please upgrade your InDesign application to the latest version to try out the fix.

    If you are unable to see the update yet, go to Creative Cloud desktop application, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right corner and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.

    If you face any problems with the new update, do let us know in the comments.
