Need an action to generate call-outs showing font style attributes
For example, if a heading paragraph style is Palatino Bold, color value: C15/M2/Y0/K36, 15 point type on 19 point leading, left aligned with an indent of 1p and space after of 2.6p, plus a nested character style, I would all like this information called out in a small label, on it's own layer in the file.
This action would make the same kind of label on its own layer for ALL the fonts styles in the file. This way I can make sample pages of my file and hand them over to someone else to finish up, with an easy…

Create New Layer more specific
A new layer is currently always created at the top, which most of the time requires dragging the layer to ********* the right level.
Why not make the function more sophisticated, and let the user choose for:
-On Top
-At Bottom
-Above Selected
-Below Selected1 vote -
Inline search filter for all styles panels and swatches
Alle styles and swatches panels should have an inline search filter to narrow down large lists of styles (similar to the quick apply window and the layer panel in Photoshop).

Changes to the Interactive>Tab Order dialog
I do many interactive forms with hundreds of fields, and use InDesign for most of its creation, as it's easier for me to create customized filed names. It's just very difficult to rearrange tab order with the inability to see more of the interactive names and needing to scroll up/down in such a small area.
I would like to see this dialog more like many of the regular windows (layers, paragraph styles, etc.). Perhaps also a way to link right to where the field is in the document (like the links window).
Would make this task MUCH easier.

lock imported pdf-comments
without beeing able to lock comments and elements like arrows and lines, its difficult to work with imported comments. when moving elements around, imported pdf-elements also move. would be nice to lock them or to convert them into an actual layer.

Page naming and exporting separate pages with it names as a sufix.
A above. I'd like to be able to name the pages separately and tick an option to use this names as sufixes when exporting separate pages (tiffs, jpgs, pngs, etc.).

Container Flow
Each year I revise a 500+ page catalog in InDesign. Each product includes text (on 2 different layers) and an image per product. Each product is separated by a horizontal rule. I'd like a way to group all of these components together per product (possibly in a container of some sort) and have them automatically flow from column to column and page to page.
I will remove products throughout the year which results in blank spaces/gaps. If when I remove a product it would automatically reflow, it would shorten my process significantly. I also add products in throughout the…

please let us change default layer colors
I would like to be able to change the default layer colors. I don't like that there are 2 shades of blue before other color options are being used. I know yellow was removed as a default layer color, but I didn't mind the yellow. So why not have us choose our own colors?

Export to Adobe XD
It would be fantastic, if the exchange with Adobe XD would be improved.
This could raise InDesign to a new, more modern level. Complete web designs can be created much faster and better with InDesign than, for example, with the layer-based Photoshop or the confusing Adobe Illustrator. There is already an ePUB export, so it would be obvious, to implement an XD export. Or XD imports InDesign data, that would work too. Thank you and always think ahead!10 votes -
Swatch Grouping
The Color Group function is really useful, but it only works in the creation phase if you select multiple colours. There's no obvious way to add a colour to a group after it's been created - there's no contextual menu option, there's no palette menu option, and seemingly, you can't drag and drop it into the folder, which is counterintuitive as this is something users do all the time with Layers. Similarly, color groups should function the same way inside the CC Libraries palette. There should be a shortcut to add any selected Swatch or Color Group to the…

Add an option to the paragraph styles panel to view paragraphs sorted by the "based on" property.
Add an option to the paragraph styles panel to view paragraphs sorted by the "based on" property.
I'm thinking something visually like the way illustrator displays groups and groups within groups, on the layer panel.
This will save a great deal of time opening and closing paragraph style panels to find out which styles are based on others before you make an edit to one of them. Instead you will be able to near instantly tell which other styles will be affected by your change to one style.

Copy and Paste Effects
It'd be great to be able to copy and paste effects from objects, especially between multiple documents. This would be similar to Photoshop's ability to copy layer effects.

HTML Image Export Options — add resolution option of "original"
During HTML export, if we want optimized images, we are only given 4 resolution options (72, 96, 150, 300)-see attached screenshot.
Sometimes we only want certain aspects of optimization to occur. For example if original placed image is a TIFF, we definitley need InDesign to export it as a JPG for the web. BUT we don't necessarily always want the resolution of the image to be altered.
So it'd be nice to add an "ORIGINAL" or "NATIVE" option to the resolution dropdown menu. This would allow us to export the images at their original resolutions, while still converting to…

Change PDF page number / .ai artboard number without placing the file each time
In a similar sense to the Object Layer Options, it would be awesome if there was a context menu option to switch to a different page number in .pdf and different artboards in .ai files.
This way when inserting a multiple page PDF For example, I can copy the object then go into the context menu and select the next desired page. Currently I spend more time looking through the OS filesystem to place the same PDF again.

Automatic drilling-down in index preview when new entry is added
When I use the key combination Ctrl-Alt-Shift-[ to add a new index entry, I can't immediately tell if it worked. I have to scroll to the right spot in the index preview and drill down through the alphabet and layers of headings and subheadings to find the new entry and see that it looks as expected.
This really slows me down. I find myself doing this over and over again. And I have to do, it, because if for some reason the key combo didn't work (say, because one of the keys wasn't depressed enough) and I didn't notice, it…

If Adobe could do a spreadsheet application
This is not a specific feature request, but more a general idea about Adobe doing a spreadsheet application.
Think about using functionality in Illustrator and InDesignTo be able to draw new sheets in threaded “Spreadsheet boxes” and “Cell boxes”, using layers for calculations/functions/data as well as text/graphic assets, writing functions and formulas in native language, using any graphics assets for conditional formatting and diagrams, place files in InDesign with full compatibility, advanced text formatting in Text Boxes nested with “Spreadsheet boxes”, tear-away panels.
Just some initial thoughts....1 vote -
"Buttons and Forms" panel desperately needs the ability to "add an image" form field
It's imperative to add to the "Buttons and Forms" panel the ability to "add an image" form field. Primarily due to ADA compliancy regarding logical reading order and layering order. Adding an image form field in Acrobat creates a nightmare of reorganizing tags. It's cumbersome and far from efficient. Plus any future edits to the InDesign file, all of the preceding must be recreated each and every time. This is a must needed feature for interactive form filling PDFs that adhere to Accessibility standards.

color labels onto style-groups
I would appreciate to have the possibility giving colors to style groups. Like the layer-labels in Photoshop. If you have many styles, you would have a better optical separation.

Mention the layer at the bottom of the window or in the Control Panel
You have to open the Layer Panel to check what layer you're working on. It would be a time saver if the active layer is mentioned somewhere else in the UI.
