It'd be so much more efficient to be able to put in a default value in editable form text fields in InDesign vs Acrobat.
I work on a creative team building editable form fields in InDesign for interactive pdf export. It'd be so much more efficient to be able to put in a DEFAULT VALUE OPTION with the correct InDesign formatting in editable form text fields in InDesign vs the limited option in Acrobat.

I should be able to design something in InDesign, and choose which text boxes I wish to be editable forms using regular acrobat reader, WHILE RETAINING THEIR FORMATTING. Why this is not a feature is beyond me, unless Adobe knows how to do it and has chosen to exclude it for financial or other reasons. Come on, this is clearly something that people need and would greatly benefit from. A client asked me if I could do this for them so they could edit a weekly bulletin or brochure themselves. Once I created the design, they just had a few things they would like to change such as the header and date and so on. I told them absolutely, because I was convinced this was something that could be done. And now I'm saying that it's not possible and I have to explain to the client why I can't do it.

It's crazy that we have to wait for it for so long, and the only option is to waste a lot of time or to pay a lot for a script - sounds stupid for me. How come Adobe did not make it yet??

I'm really surprised that we don't get the same text field options in InDesign as we do for Acrobat. Why create a crippled version that forces people to do twice the work by now having to edit a form in TWO different programs?

Please update this - surely it's even easier as the functionality exists for you to bring in from Acrobat?

It’s INSANE that we’re still asking for this.

and here was me thinking i was alone with the incredulity that this cant be done in indesign. come on Adobe - unlock the options!

To have the same functions that are available within Acrobat makes sense to me, otherwise, may as well just use Acrobat to produce the forms, as there is so much more functionality and flexibility. Will have to start calling you "Half-a-job-Indesign".....!!

Adobe really needs to lift their game on this one.

Ouch. Has this been resolved yet....would dearly love to be able to put default values in at the InDesign stage...not have to cut and pastes into Acrobat Pro.

Agree. The only way I find is to export to interactive PDF, then in Acrobat Pro: "Prepare Form" and into the properties of the field, define the default value. Not the best way at all! Would be very useful to be able to define the default value directly in InDesign.

Agree 100%. I've been searching for about an hour as I was just CONVINCED there must at least be a script for this. Can't find a thing.

Please do this!

I'm honestly surprised it's not an option! I've been searching online this morning for a solution outside of Acrobat, using InDesign software I'm using to create the form but it looks like there isn't one. There must be a reason for it...?

I completely agree with this. I use the text fields as part of an interactive pop up button that can be edited and it would help so much if we were able to input information in indesign before exporting to Acrobat and then having to mess with it.
