Make No Break Text visible
It would be quite useful if No Break text was visible; for example, as a shaded background – see my mockup image.
Currently, No Break is visible only as a text override (and then it gets lumped in with all other overrides, so you still have to click each override to see where it got applied).

Outlining text removes underlines (line above and below)
When supplying PDFs to printers they often/always require all text to be outlined. If you put an underline on any text and than go 'Type > Create Outlines', only the text becomes outlined and it completely removes any underline (line above and below that I've setup in paragraph styles). Expected results: To have the text outlined and retain the line above/below.

InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text (Accessibility)
InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text
InDesign has no way of setting actual text. This can only be done in PDF. Actual text is set when acronyms are used. Access technologies such as screen readers cannot properly read acronyms such as USA. They voice them as words, like "Youusah." Actual text has to be set for the document to be read correctly. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Currently, the process for setting actual text in Acrobat is…

Add a “floating” option to anchor frames
It would be wonderful if InDesign could have a “floating” option for anchored frames the way that FrameMaker does: it allows one to define that, for example, an anchored frame would always be in the upper right corner of the page where the text flows that contains the anchor.
As it is now, if text is added above, the anchored frame moves down with the text, and if it hits the bottom margin, then text wraps to the next page without filling the previous page.2 votes -
Footnotes from text that has been placed from a Word doc should flow continuously, so they can have numbering applied to them
When importing a document from Word that has footnotes, the footnotes are entered as separate imbedded text frames which I can't thread. If I try to apply numbering, they each are numbered 1. This is really frustrating. The footnotes should not be separated out into individual text frames, to keep them in the same text frame as paragraphs within the same text frame, or they should be allowed to be threaded.

Easy way to convert text to outline while exporting
Most of our printers still ask for fonts to be outlined.
Unfortunately the process to outline is very complicated and usually results in bullets, text box backgrounds and underline/over-lines disappearing. I also don't always want to flatten the whole document but simply rasterize the text. Especially when sending something to print that has different ink layers. Being able to outline text in the Export dialog box would be the best solution. This way I don't have to save a separate document or undo all my changes before saving so I retain my text in the Indd file.90 votes -
Share for Review - Option to select/highlight text
When an editor is reviewing the document it whould be verry nice to have the option to select a part of a sentence that has to be corrected. Now there is only the option to pin it or draw a shape.
The editor now had to select the text, make a Pin and paste the text that has to be changed in the review box and add the new text.
Ideal whould be to have the option when text is selected the interface makes a new notiation from the selected text and highlights it in the document.

fix options for interactive forms (text fields) - default text, font, size, color, alignment, etc. - none currently work CC 21
when making interactive PDF, the Text field doesn't hold the default text, or the font, size and doesn't hold the color.... The text field should hold all the text & attributes that are set in indesign, but even the options for the text field doesn't hold the font or size.

text box handles: right side
Please put a handle on the righthand side of text boxes that is not hidden by either the "click to edit corners" yellow box or the text-thread button when the text box is vertically challenged, as it were. Sometimes I want a text box to maintain a specific height but need to pull it wider to the right. If the text box is tall enough, the righthand pull handle is easily accessible, but if the text box is short, there' no way to pull the box wider to the right without either making it taller or using one of…

import PDF comments to include Text style
I have cliënts that make comments in PDF. In these comments they add (or replace) text using the correct comment tools. But very often some of the added text needs to be Italic or Bold or ... So they use the Text Style feature in Acrobat to italicize certain words.
But when importing PDF comments, these text styles do not show in InDesign. It would be great if this feature could be added.13 votes -
Copy and paste text formatting and shape style using keyboard shortcuts instead of the $%#!! eyedropper
The eyerdropper is a slow solution. Indesign should allow us to copy and paste text formatting and shape style using keyboard shortcuts instead. You select the frame (text/shape), press SHIFT+OPT+C to copy the formatting and then use SHIP+OPT+V to paste it. Much, much faster....

Auto resize text to fit text box
Auto resize text to fit text box with a character limit would allow me to use it as a dynamic form that would be print ready.

Table Cell Background Image
It would be really helpful if we could use an image as a background inside a table cell.
Or even just improve the ability to insert an image directly into a table cell, making the actual cell boundary function as the graphic frame.
Currently we can only paste a graphic frame into a cell as an anchored object, which is very cumbersome to align and position with all the levels of nesting involved.

Text variables with text preparation
Text variables with text preparation:
Text variables whose final values are calculated using a script, GREP, case conversion according to user-defined schemes, and the ability to assign character styles to parts of the resulting string would be very helpful.
Text variables can extensively use the existing serialization mechanism for paragraph and character styles, such as in running headings. For example, many scientific journals generate a DOI (Digital
Object Identifier) for each scientific article, which is a URL that optionally uses a constant prefix, year of publication, issue number in the specified year, and the initial page number of the article.…2 votes -

Add global level or book level text variables.
It would be nice to have book level text variable(s) that is used in documents in that book.
